My husband and I adopted our miniature schnauzer, Pearl, in 2011 from Heaven Sent Animal Rescue. When we got to the pet adoption clinic in Clifton Park we were led to believe from the volunteers that we were going to be accepted to adopt. We had our application, our lease and a signed letter from our landlord saying we were allowed to have a pet. However, once the main leader started to interview us, Mary was hostile during the entire interview process. Then she just stopped and said she had a bad feeling about us and we needed to leave and we were not allowed to ask why. I ended up crying all the way home as my husband drove us. I sobbed in our bed afterward because of how rude and angry she seemed towards us for seemingly no reason.
My husband ended up going back alone with all our paperwork again to try to figure out why they rejected us and to try again to adopt our Pearl. Apparently they thought our landlord’s letter looked sketchy (which our landlord was very pissed off about). Ultimately, they decided to let us adopt our dog. It was such a traumatizing day that we never celebrated her Gotcha Day. We only celebrated the birthday according to the paperwork we received of her vet history. Although I would go through all that again to have spent the rest of our dog’s life with her, I will never adopt from this rescue ever again. It was too heartbreaking an experience to ever go through again.
