Heart's Place Services, a weekend backpack program of food for homeless children, has helped many homeless families for several years. By partnering with Baltimore City Schools and the Maryland Food Bank, the program has provided food for a family of three for the weekend. At least 130 backpacks per week ( during the academic year) have been given to children to take home, resulting in less hunger over the weekend and children arriving back to school on Mondays able to focus on academics and not being hungry.
Heart's Place Services works in partnership with the Maryland Food Bank and other community organizations to provide weekend backpacks of food to homeless Baltimore City Public School Children. Each backpack feeds 3 people for 2 days ( a total of 6 meals for approximately $20.00). All of the food is non-perishable and does not require cooling/heating…so no one is asked to eat a can of cold beans.
