The best of Catholic missions. Loving and following Christ is the central focus of their hearts and of the movement.
We have been supporters of Heart's Home for many years. When you meet someone from Heart's Home you soon see their gift for expressing God's love through friendship. The simple act of seeing another human being as precious, no matter who they are, is unfortunately rare in our world. Heart's Home reaches out to those in need, bringing love and hope. It is no wonder that so many young people, yearning to make a difference in the world, find themselves called to volunteer with Heart's Home.
The world is full of nonprofits and individuals who seek to do good in this world (and Heart's Home does that too), yet the world continues to sag under the weight of its darkness. But Heart's Home brings to the world a particularly Christian (and thus human) perspective, which is that the essence of salvation is friendship, that the friendship that Christ showed to his disciples, that defined his life, is how we should live, and share our life, here on earth. That friendship connects the high and mighty and the low and humble (and we are all a little bit of each), that each life is a creative work in progress, never complete, but always sharing the essential creative friendship of the gospel.
How does that work in practice? Come and see.
Heart’s Home USA is a nonprofit which really cares about every single person they meet & visit! It is all about humanity, dignity and friendship in a very practical manner and with a very local approach, everywhere they are present; Really great team!
Heart's Home is a wonderful, very special community. What they offer is different from anyone else: a quiet and unconditional presence, friendship and prayer, for everyone but especially the poorest.
We are a family living in The greater NYC area and met Heart's Home community 5 years ago. The group is composed of volunteers and permanent members, some of them working, others studying, living as a small community rooted in Christ. They build strong friendships with families or individuals in the neighborhood through the parish, events they organize or by visiting nursing homes. We have been deeply touched to see how much goodness this small group spreads in their neighborhood, with joy and faith.
Heart's Home has had such a profound impact on my life that it is hard to express how wonderful this organization is in just a few words. I was a missionary in Argentina for 16 months and can definitely say it was the most influential and positive experience of my life. I plan to stay close to Heart's Home and help in any way that I can for the rest of life because I feel so blessed and grateful. I really have a new sense of meaning, direction, and purpose in my life thanks to this organization. The permanent members of Heart's Home are such authentic, genuinely good people. I highly recommend everyone to get involved in whatever way possible, whether it be supporting a missionary financially/spiritually or going on a mission yourself. It will change your life! I wish I could give a 6 star review, but it won't let me, so I will have to settle with a 5 star.
After graduating from college, I chose to go on mission with Heart's Home because of its focus on prayer and community. Also, as I knew that I didn't want to do something like teach or organize community projects, Heart's Home's ministry of presence--just BEING with others, especially in their suffering--was a big draw. I volunteered with Heart's Home in Senegal and Italy for over two years. It was hard and beautiful... and challenged to me to think about what it really meant to live as a Christian at the service of others. Thus, prayer was key and the first place to learn to give and receive mercy was the community.
Though it sounds cliché, I can honestly say that my experience with Heart's Home changed my life. Though I returned from mission a little over 6 months ago, Heart's Home's charism remains very close to my heart and its members remain dear friends.
Warm, loving members of Heart's Home bring loving-kindness to the materially--and spiritually--impoverished in our community--to the lonely and the helpless--to those struggling in a sometimes heartless contemporary world.
They perform the corporal and spiritual works of mercy with open loving hearts.
They are an inspiration to all.
I've both volunteered with Heart's Home and seen, firsthand, their impact on the surrounding community. They are a gift to all who encounter them - a light of wisdom, humanity, and life lived fully.
I have been able to volunteer with Heart's Home for the past couple years and I can truly say that this ministry has changed my life. It is a light in the darkness.
As a parent of a missionary, my experiences with this organization has been outstanding! Their work is exemplary and every person we’ve met with the organization has been so hardworking, kind and loving. My daughter’s work (and all the missionaries work) with Hearts Home touches so many lives, from the most obvious, the disadvantaged people whom they serve around the world, but also their donors who support and take a keen interest in their work, to family and friends who can prayerfully and materially support them, to community members that assist them in their mission country. The work of Heart’s Home is beautiful and authentic.
I met Heart's Home in France, because some of my friends left for a Heart's Home mission. They came back so happy and blessed that I wanted to know more about this organization. I decided to serve Heart's Home in the office in Brooklyn, New York, to know better the organization and to live with the community the charism of compassion. I discovered also the numerous apostolates of the missionaries, who visit the neighborhood, and I learnt how to live a compassionate daily life. The community life was full of joys and blessings, and my daily apostolate in a nearby nursing-home was a real way to learn how to love according to the Holy Gospel.
Heart's Home is volunteer/mission where a young person can volunteer about 1-2 years in a foreign country befriending those who suffer most and living a strong community and prayer life with about 3 or 4 other young people. In Romania, our friends were a mix of Gypsies, Hungarians, and Romanians. When we are at home, we have an open door policy for anyone who wants to drop by for a visit - usually children. In the afternoons, we go on apostolates, visiting our friends. We try to befriend those who are most lonely or suffering. It was an incredible experience that I can't describe in words and definitely a life-changing experience.
The year I spent with Heart's Home USA was a true blessing. I spent just over 14 months in Honduras and El Salvador, and consider it one of the most life changing of my life. I received more than I ever gave and know myself it a more real way. It was a joy to be part of such good work!
My experience with Heart's Home was by far the most formative, awe-inspiring, and beautiful year of my life--living the mission opened me to God in a way that absolutely blew my mind, and the way that our presence in the neighborhood touched those we served was absolutely unbelievable.
I met Heart's Home through many friends who went on mission as long-term volunteers with them. They told me about their experience and about what they lived with them and it was so beautiful that i really wanted to be part of their work in any way. I applied from France and was sent for a 6-month internship in Brooklyn, NY. I was struck by the way they were present to the people of their neighborhood and by the friendship they had with some of the most lonely and suffering ones. I had the opportunity to join them every saturday on their visits to the home-bound of the close-by Housing projects and it was a real joy. By living in the Heart's Home in this area, I met many people as they were often coming to us for a meal, a discussion, a mass or any other informal activity that can help them to find a way out of loneliness and exclusion. they are very welcoming, faithful and devoted people.
