Mission: Hearthstone’s mission is to provide a therapeutic home environment which helps youth with significant emotional and behavioral challenges become effective contributing adults. Hearthstone operates six residential family care homes, which serve up to six youth in each, throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area. Homes are located in Brooklyn Center, Eagan, Golden Valley, Minnetonka, North Minneapolis, and Woodbury. Over ninety-five percent of Hearthstone’s youth come from the greater Twin Cities area.
Programs:
Hearthstone serves youth with severe emotional and behavioral disturbances, stemming from backgrounds of abuse, neglect, mental illness, chemical dependency, and/or poverty. Many Hearthstone youth have never experienced a safe, nurturing, and structured family environment prior to coming to Hearthstone. As a result, their placement provides an opportunity for normal childhood growth and the development of relationships and life skills within the context of a therapeutic family setting rather than an institution. Youth are typically referred to Hearthstone through a division of their local county government, such as social services, mental health, corrections, or child protection. Hearthstone youth are males, predominantly 12 through 18 years old, and bring diverse heritages and racial backgrounds.
