As I member of the Clayton County Prisoner Reentry Taskforce and the Director of a nonprofit we are always looking for ways to network and expand our services. In August of 2014 I took part in a Heartbound Ministries hosted state volunteer certification training. As a result of this training it is possible for Community Chaplaincy Outreach, Inc to have a presence in several state prisons. We have even taken on the task of facilitating the Clayton County Transitional Center's GED preparation classes. Thanks for all you do Heartbound.
(Okay first off, can't believe this ministry hasn't been reviewed yet, they're amazing!!)
I've worked with HeartBound ever since they were established back in 2003, and they still continue to blow me away with all they do! Some days, it's seems like they are the Georgia Department of Corrections, constantly working on keeping those much-needed chaplains in prisons. They also offer A LOT of volunteer opportunities (they're a true non-profit - with only one paid employee, definitely dependent on their many volunteers) . My favorite volunteer opportunity so far would have to be packing the Christmas bags for the inmates in December and seeing the smiles on their faces when we deliver them one-by-one! Recently, HeartBound has also began a Returning Hearts Celebration at Walker State Prison where they reunite the dads and kids for a fun filled "carnival" themed day with an inspirational message at the end. I cry every time! Seeing those sweet little babies run into their daddy's arms like that! Overall, definitely a ministry you want to get involved in--and its so easy too!
