What can I say? Lima Heartbeat helped to meet every need, not just for my child, but also myself and our household. Rarely needed to buy diapers, wipes, clothes, shoes, formula, or anything for our daughter, bc Lima Heartbeat was such a big help! The parenting classes helped answer many questions and concerns, and they even had someone meet with me individually once a month, if I couldn't make it to the class. The Mother's Day party helped me feel valued and appreciated, and the prize drawings are always great! The one year I remember best, I'd won a matching car seat and stroller, which I badly needed, and it was just in time! A lady had come to speak with us about how we are "pieces of our Master, or God's masterpiece, and it really reached my heart. The food and snacks and hand massages, along with other activities etc. really helped me feel a sense of community and friendship. I miss being a part of Lima Heartbeat, but my daughter is 6 now. I have saved much of the clothes, etc. that I got from Heartbeat, to pass on to whichever of my 3 children are first to have a daughter of their own. Heartbeat gave us food and produce many times, too, which helped us immensely. If it weren't for them, we'd have really struggled to provide for our child, and would have felt quite alone. We love the ladies of Lima Heartbeat!
I have been familiar with the incredible support Heartbeat of Lima has provided women and men in the Lima and Allen County area for many, many years. Navigating the waters during an unexpected pregnancy is a confusing and emotional time. With love, compassion and various manners of support they are there to journey with mothers, fathers and their children during what can be turbulent times.
About a year ago, on a Sunday, I was made aware of a young woman in the snares of addiction, with small children involved. This was somewhat of a crisis situation, my first call was to a staff member at Heartbeat of Lima. In a matter of an hour contacts were made to their staff physician who personally directed the young lady to the people and agencies she and her children needed. Again, this is just one example of the "Heart" of this nonprofit, their staff and their volunteers.
The folks at Heartbeat of Lima do a wonderful job making you feel welcome, finding out what your needs are, and helping you to find the answers and resources that you need. I especially appreciate the "Hand Up" philosophy they offer rather than just a "Hand Out." They have the friendliest staff and volunteers anywhere!
