Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Food, Food Banks & Pantries, Food Programs

Mission: Our mission is to be a lighthouse of volunteers fighting poverty and restoring hope. Our vision is to empower residents in local communities living in poverty to achieve self-sufficiency. We achieve our mission by collecting, packaging, and distributing food to low-income communities through public food distributions and through partnerships with a network of service agencies and programs. Heart of Compassion not only distributes food to families in need, but also serves as a hub to provide transitional housing, occupational training, and vocational rehabilitation. In addition, we partner with other non-profits, local officials, and community supporters.

I have found that Heart of Compassion Distributrion has truly lived up to its stated mission "to fight hunger and feed hope to empower the urban poor." For the past twenty years now this non profit charity has grown from modest beginning to have become one of the largest food banks and distribution centers in Southern California. Just last year, Heart of Compassion distributed over 18 million pounds of food and items of necessity to the poorest of those in our community. This distribution has a net vaue of over 33 million dollars. Amazingly, Heart of Compassion was able to accomplish this feat on an operating budget of less than $360,000. They have no paid staff but operate entirely by utilizing a network of hundreds of highly passionate volunteers who give selflessly of themselves logging in more than 90,000 work hours annually. More than 306,000 families benefit from this charity each year or over 1 million 300 thousand of the most impoverished individuals who include the homeless, veterans, the disabled, senior citezens and children. Heart of Compassion ihas truly demonstrated the Father's Heart meeting the needs of those amongst us who need help the most. Kudos to Heart of Compassion! Help fund this non profit today so that they may continue this great work tomorrow!
