For many years, I have been taking cooking classes with Juliette Tahar of Healthy Living, Inc. Most recently, I have joined her online classes for senior citizens. Juliette teaches simple, nutritious and delicious recipes, and she includes much nutritional information important to seniors as we age. I always find Juliette's classes inspiring. They help me get out of the rut of my own cooking to try different foods and cooking techniques. Juliette helps all of her students make conscious healthy choices about what we eat. Her outreach programs for the youth of DC are particularly important to the health of our community.
Healthy Living Inc is changing the lives of its constituents by showing them, many for the first time. how to prepare and enjoy healthy, delicious, simple, affordable meals. Women in homeless shelters learn about vegetables, how to prepare them, and the impact that healthy food choices can have on their lives. If they receive beans or rice from a food pantry, they now know how to prepare them and make them into delicious meals. Children from low-income families see a meal prepared "from scratch" for the first time, and get excited about their new love of cooking and of healthy ingredients. They share this enthusiasm with their families and soon a family cooking program is launched. Who is behind all of this delicious transformation? Chef Juliette Tahar has been cooking and teaching the joys of simple, everyday meals for many years. Her tireless efforts to bring her message to DC residents of all backgrounds is legendary. Her organization, Healthy Living, Inc. is continually parternering with other DC-based non-profits to serve communities where the need is greatest. This work is supported entirely through foundation grants and individual and corporate donations.
