I had no where to turn and needed medicine to breathe! No insurance and very little income. I was told about Health Well and applied. They paid for my expensive breathing medicine for a whole year. What a blessing! During that year my life got better in all respects. I have shared my story and information of this organization with my Dr and others! Thank you for being there for me Health Well!

I was assisted with paying for a needed drug for osteoporosis more than once and am very grateful for the ease with which it was given, and the compassion.

I have enclosed a donation in the envelope sent to me, today.

I am 80 years young and have osteoporosis. My Endocrinologist prescribed Prolia, which I have been using for many years. Everything was fine while I was working. When I retired with no income other than a monthly Social Security check, my portion of the payment for this medication became prohibitive. I tried calling Amgen, the manufacturer to inquire about a patient assistance program. They had none. For several years I went 'without'. By chance, I came upon HealthWell Foundation. I called their office immediately, and within no time I was able to pick up the medication at the Pharmacy with no out-of-pocket cost to me. The endocrinologist had never heard of HealthWell, and was so impressed he now tells other patients who are in the same financial situation as I am to reach out. I am so very grateful for the wonderful work HealthWell Foundation does.

When my husband, a multiple myeloma patient, was prescribed the drug, Revlimid, we were shocked to learn that oral medications are not covered by medical insurance, but fall under the patient's prescription drug plan...under which our co-pay for one pill is $500 each! We were really scared we would have to sell our home at age 80. When a friend told me about HealthWell Foundation, I applied immediately. Without the help of HealthWell Foundation he would not have been able to survive. The help we receive has allowed us to live in our own home and allowed my husband to receive the co-pay assistance that makes it possible for him to take the drug that will keep him alive. In addition, Healthwell has made the annual application process easy for him, which is a real relief. When a person feels lousy, having to go through a rigorous application process is pretty hard. The HealthWell staff has been kind and helpful, and made the procedure easy and we are very grateful for the help we receive.

A friend told me about HealthWell Foundation. When I contacted them in early 2019, I was delighted that they granted me funds to cover my portion of the twice yearly injections of a drug that costs for just my portion over $600 a year! The grant now covers that significant cost in our Senior citizen budget! It has been a greater relief than you can imagine! Because of Co-Vid & the stressors all around our US healthcare systems, the fund was closed for a number of months. As the date for my injection was rapidly approaching, I continued to check frequently to see if it had opened back up. Indeed, it did! I was elated & moved immediately to re-apply for the grant. I love that the requests can be processed in one call! I now have my grant for 2020-2021. And my injection will be given in 3 days, just one week delayed from the scheduled time. It is well within the window of time for continuing to keep my bones from further loss. Thank You to God & to HealthWell!!

Healthwell Foundation has literally been a life saver for me. I have cystic fibrosis and although I have insurance, not all medications and supplements I need are covered. HF helps make up the difference with expensive co-pays and undercovered medications and necessary vitamins. It was easy to apply, they were quick to approve me and they are great to work with. I can't say enough good things about this foundation.

It is for so many of us today a constant challenge on a modest limited income to cover medical costs. For my data group as an elder person the fluid and at times improbable cost of what I consider designer meds is a cliffhanger. In my case I simply would not be able to continue with prescribed medications in spite of insurance had I not had the Healthwell Foundation fund assistance I receive and without the help of the remarkable people who are Healthwell. The assistance of these individuals and of the Healthwell team is a hallmark of caring and of support I have been surprised to find and now am so thankful I found. Simply Healthwell has made it possible for me to receive a medication therapy I could not afford without this fund.

I became disabled and have lived with chronic pain after a head-on collision in 1993. To stay strong as I can be, I was swimming in the YMCA pool several days a week. I have never competed, it is just that I love it so much and its great exercise that I was motivated to keep at it. One day I noticed it was taking longer than usual to recuperate my muscle strength after any physical activity. As the days and weeks went by I knew something was wrong as it was taking days to recover instead of hours. The problem in diagnosing me was that all my blood tests looked normal, at first. The days and weeks turned into years and as the weakness progressed so did the pain. Finally, I could barely get out of bed. I had a commode, a wheelchair, no social life, not enough energy to shop, or cook for myself and nobody could tell me why. Then I started having severe skin issues and uncontrolled sweating. Finally, after many doctors, and many years of looking for what might be wrong, the diagnosis was that I have LUPUS, Rheumatoid Arthritis, a very rare disease called DERMATOMYOSITIS, and a few other autoimmune diseases. My rheumatologist supported me in my decision to participate in a clinical trial using Benlysta to treat Lupus. After a year of being in the trial, along with several other medications, I began to feel so much better! In fact, I was eventually able to return to part time work and could walk again and even go swimming. However, at the end of the clinical trial, the FDA approved it and it was prescribed to me. However, the monthly co-pay was outrageously high and I could not afford it. Where would I et the money to pay for it? I was petrified I would return to being immobile in a bed all over again. As it turned out, Healthwell Foundation came to my rescue and became my angel. Without my medication, I wouldn't have survived. I was in shock when I received my diagnosis(s) but that was nothing compared to the shock I felt when I learned I could not afford the medication that literally saved my life. I heard about Healthwell on a Lupus Support group I belonged to on FB. I applied and was thrilled to learn Healthwell would help me with the co-pay! I would be able to pay for the medication after all! I was overwhelmed with gratitude because not only did I have hope I would get my life back, I DID GET IT BACK! I can shower, dry myself, and have enough energy to be social. I can do a little gardening and a lot of cooking! I can go to the grocery store and even have a little part-time job I work on my good days. Thank you Healthwell Foundation seems like little words to say for the tremendous gift of being able to function in the real world again. There aren't any words to express my gratitde for all you have done for me. You gave me my life back, how does one say thank you for that!

I had serious life threatening health issues that kept me from being able to continue to work. My job provided health insurance that I needed but I couldn't pay for it without an income. I have a disable spouse that I also care for. It looked like we would lose everything. I stopped filling my prescriptions and ended up in the hospital. Things were pretty bleak before HealthWell Foundation stepped in. HealthWell literally saved my life. Every person I spoke with was caring and compassionate. This organization does everything it claims. I will never be able to express the lifeline HealthWell Foundation is to so many. Thanks to their support, I am doing much better and enjoy being a productive member of society.

About 10 years ago, my mother was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia, and she contracted iron overload from too many blood transfusions. The iron chelating medication cost more than $8,000/month "after" insurance, and my parents did not have this money. A nurse at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center recommended the HealthWell Foundation. I was leary at first --- my parents were not rich, but they were not near the poverty line either. Simply put, the HealthWell Foundation helped our family. My mom's hair stopped falling out, and she was able to stop taking this medication after about one year. She lived for another eight years, and I am so very grateful for her extra years. I'm an administrator in Gastroenterology at the Univ. of Pittsburgh / UPMC, and I always forward the HealthWell Foundation's disease funds list and newsletter to our social workers and to they physicians & nurses working with currently supported diseases. The HealthWell Foundation has helped so many families, and they deserve top attention for this Great Nonprofit designation.

My son has had Cystic Fibrosis diagnosed since 2 weeks after birth. He has been awarded the HealthWell grant for about 5 years, but we only got vitimins one time. I have had to cut many other things completely out of my life just to pay for the things he needs out of pocket because they are just so expensive. I have sent in the same forms for reimbursement more than 3 times in one year and called numerous times to find out why I can not get reimbursed for his medical equipment or use the grants he has been awarded. I just would be so grateful if anyone could actually let him benefit from the grants. He got to use $0.00 last year.

HealthWell was there for me when I had nowhere else to turn.
In May 2015, I underwent a double mastectomy after precancerous cells were found in my breast tissue. The decision to have this surgery was not difficult for me – I had helped my sister-in-law through breast cancer, and I was willing to do whatever was needed to protect my health.
What happened afterward, however, is something I would not wish on anyone.
Sadly, studies show that the majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer are not informed of their options for reconstruction at time of mastectomy. I was ushered right into breast implants. After four additional failed surgeries, I was left disfigured and in pain.
When I looked in the mirror, I did not see myself. I began to second guess all my decisions. My self-esteem went down. My productivity at work went down. My long-term relationship ended.
I had to get the implants out of my body and try another restorative option! Working in a public library system, I do not make much money and the cost of my insurance is high. I found a well-regarded breast restoration center in New Orleans, but it was out-of-network and cost prohibitive for me. I began doing research to see if I could find any organization providing financial help to breast cancer patients in my predicament.
Understandably, the assistance that is out there is for people much more ill than I was. My various applications were all turned down, and I found myself in a very hopeless, precarious place. I felt like I was walking a tightrope without a net. After all the surgeries and almost claiming bankruptcy, I knew I needed talk therapy to deal with the trauma and the stress. I was able to go to a few (omit "talk" here) therapy sessions but had to stop because I could no longer afford to pay my copay amounts. My pain was no longer just physical. I was at the end of my rope.
That is when I took one more chance and searched the internet for any resource for financial assistance for cancer-related mental health issues and found HealthWell. I immediately called and a wonderfully positive and upbeat woman walked me through the easy application process, and I was approved. Finally, I felt like someone understood what I was going through – things really turned around for me that day.
To some people, a $2,000 grant may not seem like much, but it sure does to me. It has covered my out-of-pocket treatment-related costs for my new prescription drug, psychotherapy sessions, and even transportation. That little bit has made such a difference in my life! With renewed confidence and compassionate support, I was finally able to get the necessary microsurgery in New Orleans.
My friends and family now say to me “You’re back!” and they’re right! I am so grateful to all the generous people who support HealthWell and for all they’ve done for me.

I was finally diagnosed with lupus and Sjogrens Syndrome in 2017, after many years of struggling. My doctor's were finally able to come up with a treatment plan that included Plaquenil to help restore some level of function. This was covered by my insurance with a $10 copay. The medication was amazing! I felt better than I had in several years, I was able to move around, work, and FUNCTION better than I had in several years. Unfortunately, I was severely allergic to it and had to stop taking it. The doctor's then switched to a "cousin" of the Plaquenil, chloroqine. It didn't work as well as the Plaquenil, but it still was a great medication. My copay with this was $20 until January of 2018. My insurance changed to an HMO and the copay then went up to $100 a month, which I couldn't afford. I was devastated and didn't know what I would do so I started researching and found The HealthWell Foundation website. I completed the assistance application, but honestly never expected to be approved for assistance. I was approved for a significant amount. It has now been 2 years that I've been on these medications and am so very thankful that I was able to continue with them because of the help I received from The HealthWell Foundation. I still struggle with residual issues from the autoimmune diseases, but my inflammation levels have been reduced significantly, I am in much less pain, and I'm able to actually get out of bed and function. I honestly don't know what I would've done without this foundation. Thank you so very much!

When I turned 47, I became totally physically disabled under Social Security and unable to work after fighting an unknown disease for many years beginning in my late teens. Doctors suspected it was bone cancer, from the nuclear bone scans performed in the early 1980s. Now I am 66 with severe Osteoporosis, some organ damage and I am monitored for multiple myeloma through on-going blood tests and oncology visits. One of my specialist's Medical Assistants put me in touch with the Healthwell Foundation after I was turned down by a manufacturer to help with the copays for one of my most expensive medications. It is only because of Healthwell that I'm able to get this much needed injection to help rebuild my bones. I'm very greatful to the Healthwell Foundation and ask that others please donate so those who can't afford expensive medications can keep fighting those diseases that have no cures. Otherwise, lifesaving medications would be out of reach without the grants and donations to highly ranked charities like the Healthwell Foundation. Pease consider donating so others may continue their fight to live. Thank you.

When my bone density test came back and the results were as bad as they were, my doctor wanted me to start taking shots daily. The co-pay was terribly expensive even if I had a regular salary instead of disability. The doctor got his nurse to tell me about HealthWell Foundation, a company that gives grants to help with expensive medicines. They were so easy to work with and with just a few questions I was approved. The medicine changed and I only take shots twice a year but HealthWell stood by me all the way. Ask your doctor or pharmacy about them or look them up on the Internet.

In May of 2017, my wife started having back and hip pain that we thought was the result of lifting and moving furniture after my mother passed away. Her pain continued to get worse and within one month we started to see her doctor and a chiropractor. No relief. we were sent to see a pain specialist and then to an endocrinologist where we began a bone building medication protocol. it was then determined that my wife needed a hip replaced, but the pain continued. we went to the hospital ER on November 1, 2017 where, after further testing, it was determined that she had multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood. Within four days, she began chemo therapy. Her oncologists, when discussing her treatment plan, stated that the chemo was very expensive but there was financial help out there. The oncologist recommended the Health Well Foundation and some other areas to get assistance. We called Health Well and explained our situation. They were courteous, professional and most of all, kind. They asked some questions about our situation and then told us right away that our request for a grant was approved! A huge weight was lifted from our shoulders. We were able to concentrate on getting better and not have to worry about paying for the chemo drug. This allows us to look to the future and better days ahead. Health Well Foundation is wonderful and a true blessing on our journey. We would like to say thank you to them for this grant and all of their help. And we are moving forward.

In November of 2016 I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. My husband and I were left in a state of shock at even the sound of the word cancer. We had never even heard of that type of cancer. Soon after sorting out the details of what was being related to us, we were told that the disease would be treated with three drugs.
The first drug, revlimid, was so very far beyond our ability to pay to the co-pay. However, at the time that the doctor prescribed it, we did not realize the high cost. Behind the scenes, however, the financial aid department of the Levine Cancer Institute hurried to find a grant for me. The Healthwell Foundation stepped up to the plate. We are so thankful to have them grant much-needed funds to us which covers the cost of the co-pay.
My husband and I are on a fixed income because we are both retired. In no way could we ever afford the co- pay for the revlimid. This medication is needed in order for me to keep living. You see, there is no cure for multiple myeloma. However, with this drug and others I am able to keep living. My husband and I are so very grateful to the Healthwell Foundation for their generous donation to me.The kindness of this foundation can never be repaid, but we simply want you to know that those that donate to such a wonderful fund that you have really warmed our hearts. Today, my disease is stabilized, thanks to the Healthwell Foundation.

Ovarian cancer is sneaky, by the time one realizes something isn't right, usually it is advanced. I am one of the lucky ones in that I have a great team and so far have beaten the odds. However it is also a cancer that recurs...and a newish drug can lengthen the time between the recurrences and yet more chemo.

Unfortunately the drug is way expensive and that is where HealthWell is a life prolonger..as with a relatively simple application (supported by tax returns etc) HealthWell is covering my costs...and for that my husband and I are so grateful - we could not possibly afford them.

The staff at HealthWell have been very helpful and efficient....so we did not have to wait long at all - every day counts.

Thanks for helping me stay alive longer.

I can't thank Healthwell enough. I had a cancerous left kidney removed in October, 2010. While all existing cancer was removed and it was a non-aggressive form, cancerous cells could still form where the kidney had been removed and travel in my bloodstream to other parts of my body - known as renal cell migration. Our primary care physician referred me to a surgeon with Western Maryland Health Systems. My regular follow-up with the surgeon who removed the kidney only included an outward physical check up every six months and, at that time, I did not know about the possibility of renal call migration. I had such a migration and, upon having a terrible convulsion in November, 2014, I discovered that I had a one inch cancerous tumor just in back of my right frontal motor cortex in my brain! My primary care physician had me transported to West Virginia University affiliated Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia. I had this removed and was very fortunate to come out of this with cognition, vision, and speech intact, though I don't have quite the same function in my right side. Ruby is excellent. I now have the surgeon who removed the tumor checking me with an M.R.I. for the brain area and an oncologist checking me with a C.A.T. scan every four months and am also on Sutent, an oral capsule that prevents renal cell migration. I highly recommend Ruby and the Mary Randolph Cancer Center for anyone involved with cancer in this area. The Sutent has been very effective and has prevented migration to date. Unfortunately, it is also extremely expensive. This is where Healthwell has come in. Healthwell has covered the extremely high copay expense for the last year and has accepted me this year. I cannot thank them enough. The people there are very caring and understanding. This takes much stress off of me and my wife and our daughter. A little about myself. I am an retired educator with Garrett County, Maryland, public schools. I worked in pupil services for 39 years. I also served as accompanist for our Church choir for 24 years until a parishioner who teaches music in our school system came in to relieve me in 2000. I still sing in the choir. I also volunteer as treasurer with our Extension office, that coordinates 4-H programs in our county. I substitute teach when able. I've had to reduce activities as my wife has developed kidney failure and has been in dialysis three days a week for almost two years at this point, and also has developed some other conditions as well. I really appreciate Healthwell. They have been a lifesaver literally. I've been able to be helpful to my wife and have lived long enough to see grand and great grandchildren. A big "Thank You" to Healthwell Foundation!

Almost ten years ago, my husband was diagnosed with Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a progressive scarring of the lungs of unknown cause. Every year the scarring increased. His doctor suggested he take part in a drug trial that could lead to a medication that would help, and he was a part of that trial for its' final three years. After the drug was approved and went on the market, it was suggested we apply for a grant to help us afford it. We applied to HealthWell Foundation and have been so grateful to them for their kindness and assistance that made continuing on this medication possible. The doctor tells us that my husband's lung function is stable and he is still able to live a rewarding and fulfilling life.

Today, Nov. 1, 2018 I was able to renew my grant for prescription financial aid for my second year. My experience both times now has been a wonderful, pleasant professional experience. This Foundation is a life saver. I have IPF ( Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis ) and while it is basically uncurable and irreversible I am on a prescription that is designed to slowdown the damage growing in my lungs. Unfortunately, the cost of this is very expensive as it is relatively new to the market in just the last few years.
Healthwell and this pill is giving me more time on Earth with my family.

My name is Carl Miller and I live in Galesburg, Illinois. I have pulmonary fibrosis and take a prescription medication that is very expensive. This is the second year I have received a grant to help with the expense from HealthWell. If I did not receive this grant, I would not be able to afford the medication and probably would not be alive. Working with HealthWell has been easy and with no problems processing payments.
Thank you HealthWell!

I am touched and overwhelmed by the generosity shown to me by the Healthwell Foundation. I am in need of Prolia for my osteoporosis and Healthwell Foundation has generously agreed to cover the cost of that shot for me both times within one year. Everyone I have ever spoken to when I called has been exceedingly helpful and I continue to be ever grateful!

I had to call this foundation two times. Both times the ladies I talked to were extremely nice. My husband always made the phone calls that required decisions and such. Now he can’t and I had to call this foundation for him. I was totally nervous about it. But both ladies were so kind and understanding that I was able to relax and actually felt good about calling. They were very helpful and encouraging. This is and excellent place to call if need assistance with paying for expensive medication. Not once did I feel that they were judging me or felt condemned for calling. Their attitude was if your eligible then you should have it. Thank you HealthWell and thank you ladies!

Thank you HealthWell for lightening the burden of managing my chronic disease by providing me with the HealthWell grant. For the past three years the HealthWell grant has provided me with the financial help I need to pay for health insurance and other health costs associated with managing a chronic health condition requiring hundreds of doctors visits, dozens of surgeries, and repeat hospitalizations. This grant has been especially invaluable to me as a young adult (now 27) who, due to my serious health condition has so far only been able to work part time. I had the privilege of meeting the Health Well team in person a few years ago while attending the CBI conference as a patient speaker. I was deeply touched by their compassion and devotion to helping patients with chronic conditions receive the treatment they need when health insurance is not enough. HealthWell has made such a difference!

Sincerely,

Laura

I have used Healthwell for years and they are a wonderful organization. As a cystic fibrosis patient who has to take extra vitamins and supplements and has high co-pays for some medications, they have been a lifesaver. Always pleasant and professional and I receive reimbursement checks very quickly.

Our insurance does not cover all the expense of a cancer drug, Sutent, which is an exorbitant $17,000 for 28 pills (one months supply). No one except the top 1% can afford to pay for this life-saving drug! We are so thankful for the HealthWell Foundation for their grant which provides us the ability to treat my husbands renal cancer for a year. Their process for requesting this grant was simple and compassionate. A wonderful organization!

I had colon cancer surgery in 2009 at age 70. Six months of chemotherapy followed, including one particularly expensive drug. I had Medicare, but my co-pay soared into the thousands, much more than I could afford. The hospital business office suggested I ask Healthwell for help. I did so, not really expecting to get it, then eureka and by dang they came through. $5000.00. A gift from heaven. I remain humbly grateful to those folks and send in small contributions as I can, to help them keep on doing what they do. I felt like my life was twice saved.

I have been dealing with the devastating financial burdens that chronic disease can put on an individual in this country for 15 years and this is the first time I have been able to recieve financial assistance other than governmental agencies. The people at this organization are extremely helpful, they have always been polite and patient throughout the application process. Although it doesn't end my financial difficulties it is a great help towards meeting my financial responsibilities. I am extremely grateful for their help!!
