I have worked with many non-profits but, in the 3 months I volunteered with Health Access Connect, I have never been so impressed. Their commitment and care for the people they work with is evident as they involve the community in every step of the process for sustainable health care access.
Spending 2 months of time with Health Access Connect in Uganda was an amazing experience that allowed me to learn more about the organization's workings. The organization's staff are kind and helpful, and were always available to answer any questions. Additionally, the work Health Access Connect does is having a visible impact on the communities it operates in, making my time with the organization feel particularly rewarding.
Health Access Connect is a great nonprofit that is doing amazing work. I was able to volunteer for them during the summer of 2017. While I was there, I was inspired by the work they do to provide much needed health resources such as life-saving medication and annual check-ups. Kevin, the director, is a great person to work with who shows the passion he has to this cause and the nonprofit. In the future, I would love to continue to work with this great organization!
One of my favourite things about HAC is how passionate everyone involved is. The work being done is so valuable because people work together to find relevant solutions with big impacts.
I am a health science undergraduate student at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, BC, Canada. When I was on a semester abroad studying in Uganda, I volunteered with this organization for 4 months and worked with the founders, Kevin and Carolyne. They are actively involved in every part of their services, working incredibly hard with all members of the organization. My time there was one of the most eye-opening and incredible experiences in my life. I saw first hand what this organization does and how they work and impact the community directly. They have an active community engagement approach to their programs, and they are constantly involving community members for feedback and improvements. They are constantly growing and learning from all parties involved. Not only do they go in to villages and help as many people as they can, they teach them everything they are doing to make it work and encourage they lead their own communities. Health Access Connect has even helped fund the motorcycle transportation so the community can eventually be self sustainable with the same or similar program models that they have implemented. I will go back to visit this organization as soon as I can, and I continue to support and admire all the work they do. They have a great hearts, mission, and action plans.
Health Access Connect brings health services where they are most needed. Staff is knowledgeable, partnered with local professionals, and committed to making programs sustainable. Truly a community-first organization.
