Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Blood Banks, Health
Mission: It is the mission of Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) to save lives by partnering with community organizations and foundations to provide a continuous supply of blood products and services.
Results: MKBC is a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit community service organization that is registered with the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bureaus of Charitable Organizations. We are the sole blood provider to 26 hospitals in a 12-county service area in eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey, comprised of 5 million people. MKBC is a regionally known blood banking leader, with our main facility located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. There are five fixed blood donation sites located throughout our service area of Pennsylvania and New Jersey: Allentown, Easton, Bethlehem, Reading, and Exton. In addition, over 2,600 mobile blood drives are scheduled each year in Pennsylvania and New Jersey at businesses, places of worship, high schools, colleges, and corporate sites. With the addition of our My Blood, Your Blood (MBYB) program seven year ago, we have reached over 22,000 youth. Our goal with this program is to teach students about the importance of blood donation and inspire them to donate when they are of age. Each school year, we see an increase in the amount of blood drives hosted at area schools, which can be attributed to the successes of MBYB.
Target demographics: our community
Direct beneficiaries per year: 185,000 patients and educated 4,000 students. To date we have reached 22,000 youth with our educational program.
Geographic areas served: eastern Pennsylvania and western New Jersey
Programs: a continuous supply of blood products, and My Blood, Your Blood, which is out education initiative designed to teach our area's youth about the importance of blood donation.
