I started following the parents of Hayes on social media a few years ago and was touched by their story of losing Hayes, their 2-year old son. As a result, I donated to the foundation multiple years during their fundraising events and felt a connection to them.
But the past three years, I've noticed that there is no accountability for the funds that have been raised. There is no independent board. It appears that the family are the directors of the charity and it seems like they may take compensation.
On social media, they brag about taking their big vacations that would seem to cost $10,000 - and then they donate to somebody, which seems to be subjectively, in that destination where they are on vacation. And they seem to always just give $5,000.
I have never seen an accounting for the funds raised. There is nothing that shows how they chose the beneficiaries of the "grants" or what the beneficiaries did with the funds.
I do hope that they bring in outside advisors and create the accountability that this foundation deserves.
