Mission: To foster international cultural awareness and understanding through the medium of film. To act as a creative pipeline for hawaii and the pacific, showcasing new and emerging talent from hawaii, asia, america, europe, and the pacific islands.
Programs: In 2016, the hawaii international film festival (hiff) presented two film festivals as well as year-round film screenings. The hiff 2016 spring showcase featured 27 films from 12 countries over 9 days. The hiff fall festival featured 178 films from over 35 countries over 15 days. Combined, hiff held 300 screenings to an audience of nearly 50,000. Annually, over 250 filmmakers, actors, film critics, media, and other film industry professionals from around the world attended and participated in both festivals film exhibition programs.
in 2016, hawaii international film festival facilitated the hiff educational programs. The key programs included the guest filmmaker program (gfp), student showcase, a creative lab program, cultural and visual literacy program (cvlp), and free educational panels. The creative lab entered its fifth year offered professional development opportunities in the areas of filmmaking, screenwritingm and producing. Hiff educatio nprograms once again supported student development and study abroad programs via direct support to the university of hawaii at manoa academy for creative media smart exchange program with shanghai university and the shanghai international film festival (siff). Hiff also supported many student internships from universities across hawaii.
