Causes: Economics
Mission: To promote and improve the teaching of economics in hawaii's public and private schools and increase the economic and financial literacy of hawaii's students and residents.
Programs: Hcee works to achieve its mission by promoting and improving the teaching of economic and financial concepts in hawaii's public, private, and charter schools through teacher workshops and student programs. Hcee improves the quality of economic and financial literacy education in the state of hawaii by training educators who in turn can advocate and implement programs and curriculum in hawaii schools. These programs include workshops, stock market simulation, economics through the eyes of children, economics challenge, academy, and cadre. During the last ten years, the hcee has trained more than 1,000 hawaii educators in its programs. Each school year, if one trained teacher teaches one class of 30 students, approximately 30,000 students would have benefited from such educator training. Each year, nearly 7,000 students participate in the stock market simulation, economics challenge, and economics through the eyes of children programs.
