Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Civil Liberties, Civil Rights, Civil Rights, Social Action & Advocacy

Mission: HateWatch, (http://hatewatch.org) is web based educational resource and organization that monitors the growing and evolving problem of online bigotry. Originally a Harvard Law School library web page, this project soon grew too large and the need for a more activist orientated organization became apparent.

In 1996, HateWatch incorporated in Massachusetts and began to actively monitor hate groups on the Internet. Among other resources, HateWatch keeps the most up to date catalog of hate groups using the web to recruit, propagandize and organize. HateWatch is considered an innovator in the use of web based outreach and is a leader in the fight for civil rights and social justice.

HateWatch serves a diverse group of patrons. We offer free assistance and information to academics, activists, victims of bias crimes, the media, civil rights groups, law enforcement and concerned individuals on the growth and influence of racist activity on the Internet.
