Harvest Home works with many of the more neglected types of animals---ones discarded and abused by humans, but not routinely sheltered by many animal charities. Chickens, rabbits, birds, pigs, ducks---these are not cats and dogs, as many think of in the "pet" catagory, but they are wonderful characters in their own right, and make excellent companions
We went there last year with some friends who had invited us. We were very impressed by the quality of care that is given to the animals, the dedication of the volunteers and the cleanliness and happiness of the place. It was a beautiful experience. This is a non-profit that we whole heartedly support.
I was recently involved in a volunteer project for this organization. It was an amazing experience! The sanctuary is a wonderful, serene, loving place. The animals are all so well taken care of. It is obvious how much love and attention each animal receives and that those who are caring for the animals truly believe it is their life work to protect and nurture each one of them. I will certainly volunteer again and continue to support this organization!
awesome group of people who truly care about animals.
I've been following the activities of Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary for several months now. I absolutely love seeing their updates on all the animals they've rescued and healed, helping them transition from livestock to loved companions. It makes me so happy to see an organization like this that encourages members of the public to volunteer, letting them experience and learn so much from seeing animals as valuable members of the earth instead of just "not human." Their staff is amazing at healing the rescued animals. Their progress is so impressive. It's the best part of my day when I see some poor chicken or sheep suffering from disease, neglect, and mistreatment become healthy and happy because they were taken in by HHAS. THANK YOU TO THE STAFF!!!!
I first visited Harvest Home a number of years ago. I was immediately impressed by the enthusiasm of the staff and the good health of the animals. I subsequently visited on a number of occasions and found the experience to be consistent. Harvest Home is evidence that you don't have to have hundreds of acres to have a wonderful sanctuary for animals and for people seeking out a special experience.
Harvest Home is one of my favorite organizations! I adopted my ex-battery hens from Christine at Harvest Home. It's very rewarding to see them blossom in good living conditions. I'm grateful for Harvest Home for recognizing that even though they are considered 'throw-aways' by the egg industry, they are still creatures worthy of living. Keep it up, Harvest Home!
I first went to Harvest Home for their annual Toast to the Turkeys celebration when a friend of my shared their post. I love the sanctuary. It's smaller than many and most of their animals are bunnies and the most amazing assortment of birds, ever. First time I was able to actually snuggle with a turkey! Besides chickens and turkeys they have ducks and some game birds I've never seen before. I loved sitting in the bunny house and watching the buns do their own thing. They have helped with the large rescues that other sanctuaries have organized and taken in some of those wonderful hens. The people are warm and friendly. Looking forward to this year's holiday event.
This is one of the best sanctuaries I have ever seen. Its beautiful location is perfectly matched by the beautiful, open-hearted people who run it. The care and tenderness they show to each of the animal residents is a delight to see - they are making a difference every day both in the lives of the animals lucky enough to live there but also for the visitors who flock there to learn more about turkeys, pigs, rabbits, ducks, chickens, and more! The whole place is a true animal haven and I wish I could be there every week!
Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is close to my heart. They specialize in rescuing birds - hens, turkeys, and other farmed and non-farmed species - and rabbits, but also have resident goats, pigs, dogs - any animal who needs their care. The whole place is founded on one fundamental premise: compassion for all creatures. And the folks involved with the day-to-day running, maintenance, and support of the place are some of the kindest, most altruistic, sensitive, caring and truly compassionate people I have ever had the privilege of meeting. I volunteer there occasionally and can see why people just fall in love with the place and the residents. It's a very special sanctuary - nestled in the middle of wide open countryside, surrounded by vineyards, and is a true haven for anyone. I recommend this sanctuary with all my heart!
I volunteered here over the summer and I must say the people and animals are terrific. It is quite obvious how much these folks care about their sanctuaries' mission. They take excellent care of their animals and do a great amount of outreach in their community. This wonderful safe haven deserves much public gratitude for all their efforts.
We adopted some beautiful rescue hens from Havest home! They were in beautiful shape thanks to this rescue. They delivered hens to our home and went over their adoption contract, very professional rescue! We are very pleased with the hens we have adopted! This is our third adoption from Harvest Home. Overall this is just a wonderful sanctuary that does great things!
I volunteered at the sanctuary for the first time, this October. I absolutely loved it there! It's so peaceful, and the animals are obviously very well cared for. Karen and Christine are both lovely to be around, and you can see how they sincerely love the animals. I plan on volunteering twice a month, and attending all of their events, from now on.
A wonderful organization absolutely dedicated to the animals they rescue. I've visited two different times. The people who work there are some of the most caring and compassionate people I've ever met. You can tell that they love their job and the enthusiasm is contagious! It is so easy to fall in love with the animals after spending an afternoon getting to know them and their personalities! One of my favourites is Kona the turkey - he loves to show off his beautiful feathers to visitors. I love being able to keep in touch with the sanctuary via social media, getting updates about animal friends and seeing new rescue and adoption efforts. Harvest Home is an amazing place for humans and animals!
My husband and I had the honor and privilege of volunteering at Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary for several years when we lived in California. This is a super organization that does so much not only for their animal residents but also for the entire community. They inspired us to be more involved in animal rescue and we will continue to support them in whatever way possible.
Our small animal sanctuary (Friendlyfarms.org) has been working with Harvest Home since it's inception and we have continually been amazed and enthralled with how Harvest Home has expanded it's services, advocacy, and compassionate care. Harvest home had aided us on many occasions with rabbit and Cavie rescues with no holding back on their support. We have taken in several of the rescue hens from recent egglayer shutdowns and these birds are a big joy in our lives. If anyone is looking to support a fantastic operation, I believe you would be very fulfilled working with Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary.
I visited Harvest Home a little over a year ago, and found it to be welcoming, homey, and a lovely sanctuary for its animal residents. I have been a monthly donor for some time and feel my funds are well used and help support the animals directly. I have just started to volunteer there and the experience has been very rewarding.
I have donated and volunteered here (though sadly, I moved and I can no longer volunteer), and Harvest Home is one of my favorite animal nonprofits. The animals here are able to live out the remainder of their lives in a happy place with lots of attention, affection, and delicious food. The animals come from troubled pasts and some may be a bit shy, but you can see the happiness and newfound peace in every one of them.
My only caution is that you may find yourself so taken in by the wonderful animals that you end up questioning your eating habits - and really, that's a good thing. How can you eat a pig after you've met Mohawk?
I am a monthly supporter of Harvest Home. And I really like how the money is used by the sanctuary for direct animal care and rescue. I love how my money is put to good use for animals!
Rufus, Josh and Razzle became my beloved bunnies because of Harvest Home. Many other rabbits plus lots of other species in need are cared for by Harvest Home. An excellent organization devoted to the rescue of and love for wonderful animals.
I was touched to know about the work Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary does, and have donated to it on several occasions. They do good work, and because of organizations like them, animals are taken care of.
I've been with Harvest Home since the day they opened, and there aren't many groups that are as hard working as Harvest Home. The animals served here are unbelievably lucky to have been saved by Harvest Home; they come from the toughest of situations and some have suffered unbelievably, but when they arrive at Harvest Home, they receive only loving care. I can't say enough good things about this fabulous organization. I am super proud to be involved!
I adore Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary. The work they do for animals is amazing; from countless road trips to rescue chickens, to recovering Felipe, a little dog who was hit by a car and left in the street. Their compassion is endless.
A special shout out to the amazing & wonderful Christine M.
Love these guys. XO
I have been following Harvest Home for quite a while now and all I've experience by viewing and donating is wonderful care and compassion. These people have great love and commitment to the animal population in general and their adoption and rescuers are stellar.
I believe they are one of the best animal rescue sanctuary in the USA. Here's to many more helpful years of rescuing animals in need.
I love you guys.
They are very compassionate. I've never seen people like Harvest Home go out of their way to help any animal. No matter how small or large
Harvest Home is a wonderful place to work, visit, or be a helper. They go out of their way to improve the lives of animals, be they farm, ranch, or companion related. Their compassion is outstanding and they truly care about all animals that they take care of and find wonderful homes for. I highly recommend them.
Harvest Home is a wonderful sanctuary. They take great care and expense insuring all the animals in their care are healthy and happy. I would never hesitate to put any of my animals in their care. The people who run Harvest Home are loving and compassionate to all animals who pass thru their gate.
I've known Harvest Home for more than 2 years now and find them to be considerate professionals. They show great knowledge and compassion towards animals and people. Christine Morrissey is kind, hard working and a great communicator. I am trying to raise money to give to them to support their efforts. The ranch is clean and organized and spares no expense in caring for the animals. I think of them as heroes. It is so lovely there. Anne Kenney, Hayward Ca.
I became involved with Harvest Home over a year ago now during their annual Toast to the Turkey's celebration in 2011. Since then, I have been enamored with the staff and the animals at the Sanctuary. I have loved every minute of my involvement with Harvest Home.
Harvest Home is the best. they help so many animals and do a fantastic job giving tender loving care to animals in need. I only wish we had Harvest Home here in New York State. Five stars to them!! :)
Harvest Home deserves 5 stars because they are dedicated to helping animals and they give clueless people like me an opportunity to be involved in the process and day-to-day duties. Now I'm no longer clueless. I've learned a lot from being a volunteer!
I love harvest home! The work that this organization does for animals is amazing! They rescue and take in so many rabbits and chickens that were on the edge of losing their lives. They keep in contact with other local rescue orgs and take in animals when the other shelters are too overcrowded. They work hard and endlessly for the sake of animal lives. Whenever I come to harvest home sanctuary to visit/volunteer I take a look at all the animals, and I just know that they are extremely happy and at peace here. I adopted a rabbit here at harvest home and they spayed her for me and gave me medicine for her surgery as well. Harvest home is also there for me whenever I have questions about how to take care of my rabbit. It has been a year and the people of this organization are still here for me.
Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is my favorite animal rescue! It is located at an accessible place, not too far from those in the bay area or from those in the central area. The volunteers and staff are really dedicated to the immediate and broader cause of their work. They are creative in providing public outreach and education through their workshops, and they are also dedicated in fundraising efforts for meeting the immediate health needs of their animals. Whenever I get a chance to visit Harvest Home, even just for a few minutes, I always see animals at peace. By volunteering with Harvest Home, I learned a lot about animal rescue and my experience there has definitely encouraged me to make more responsible and ethical choices in my life. :)
Harvest Home helped me save a death-row bunny in the Fall of 2010. Jennifer went above and beyond to help me save my Gryphon from being PTS for being "unadoptable." Not only was he NOT unadoptable, he was a wonderful addition to our family that had endless amounts of love to give. Thank you Jennifer and Harvest Home for blessing me with the life and love of my little fluffball; I will never forget you or him!
Harvest Home is an incredible place for animals who need sanctuary. They step up when they get word that animals are in distress. They promote awareness with education. Its a win / win for animals and people. The rescues they have performed are an invaluable service for all of us.
This is really a great place to get involved in animal rescue for those who are just starting to gain a deeper understanding of animal welfare and rights. The volunteers who run this sanctuary are very flexible and friendly. The sanctuary is located in a very far off area, but it is a perfect place for a sanctuary to be as it is very quiet. Sanctuary animals all seem at peace, roaming around and not being caged. I like seeing Mohawk the pig every now and then in different parts of the sanctuary, he has the freedom to go wherever he wants and looks content. It's cute seeing the turkeys jump on the porch and look into the windows where the adoptable bunnies are. Every time I arrive, the sanctuary dogs (and sometimes chickens) are always there to greet me and escort me to the main house where I volunteer. Also, it's great to know that there is a place that loves and cares for bunnies with difficult disabilities like wry neck. After volunteering, you always feel satisfied with your day!
I LOVE and support Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary. As a volunteer and previous tenant, I have first hand knowledge of the great work they do for people and animals. It doesn't matter how hard the case is, Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary doesn't shy away from the challenges. Although they are one of the smaller sanctuaries up in Northern California, the people their have big hearts and a lot of compassion for any and all animals. They have a wonderful indoor habitat for their many rabbits, and large pastures for all of the large animals and chickens and each animal gets great care and love from the people who live on the sanctuary and their volunteers.
Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is an excellent organization. The sanctuary is run professionally and the animals get the best possible lifelong care. As a volunteer I feel that my efforts have a direct contribution to the lifesaving work that Harvest Home does.
I volunteer for Harvest Home whenever I have the opportunity. Harvest Home is not only a sanctuary for animals that have suffered horrendous suffering, but is a sanctuary for animal activists as well. I am so grateful to have this wonderful sanctuary nearby, and look forward to visiting and supporting Harvest Home for years to come!
I love Harvest Home! I originally got involved with them by adopting a rabbit. A rabbit who had such severe medical needs that she was a day away from being put down in the municipal shelter where she'd been abandoned, and who'd been turned away by other rescue groups. I then attended a Compassion Fatigue workshop they helped organized in Berkeley -- an immensely helpful event. Now I can hardly stay away. They care for so many animals, many of whom are old or in need of medical assistance. It's truly a unique place run by unique, down to earth, fun to be around people!
Hands down: When you donate to Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, your money goes directly to helping animals in need. In the world of animal rescue, this sanctuary lends a helping hand to many underrepresented animals like pit bulls, cockfighting roosters, pigeons, quail and goats. Every animal needs a voice. Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary does its best to help formerly neglected animals live a meaningful life.
Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary is an organization that cares for neglected, abused, and abandoned farmed animals. The staff and volunteers have enormous passion for changing the world for animals. The sanctuary has many animals with special needs, which require more veterinary care, staff time, and resources to care for, and if not for Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, they would not have been rescued. Harvest Home is constantly holding special events and tours, and doing new media outreach, to try to engage more volunteers and donors in our mission of helping these special animals. As a board member, I am thrilled to help organize fundraising and plan for the future of this dynamic organization. I am also a donor, and volunteer a lot of my time for Harvest Home, helping to coordinate foster homes, organizing adoption events, and doing adoptions. Harvest Home is an incredible organization, helping animals, and changing the way people think about animals, one animal and one person at a time.
I have been volunteering with Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary for over 4 years now. They take in animals that typically would be killed in shelters or are old & unwanted. They provide not only much needed medical aid but an unconditional love that some of them have never felt. When I have personally come across animals in need of rescue & felt utterly helpless, Harvest Home has always stepped in to save their lives. I have always had complete confidence in the care they have provided & their workers are not only knowledgeable in the field of animal care, they are a complete joy to volunteer with. Though I do not make much money, any funds I am able to donate always goes to Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary, easily one of the best animal sanctuaries in the greater bay area.
Harvest Home is amazing! I try to have them out to my stores animal events to help raise money for this great organization. As a bunny owner I appreciate all the hard work and love they show their rescues. We need to help harvest home going strong!
They do a wonderful job taking care of rabbits and other small animals who have specialized needs. I have volunteered a couple times and it's very fun.
Harvest Home is an amazing sanctuary that I adore! I look up to Karen and Christine! My heroes! They do such an amazing job at making sure every animal is safe, healthy, and secure! They deserve so much, I wish to one day have a sanctuary like theirs! I've only visited the sanctuary once and I have to say, I was treated with such kindness! They made my visit so amazing! I felt comfortable and I got to interact with all the animals! I was like a little kid smiling with joy! :) Love this sanctuary! You guys ROCK!
I've been volunteering at Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary for a year and a half. Harvest Home provides sanctuary for rescued and/or abused farmed animals, such as chickens, roosters, guinea fowl, turkeys, ducks, goats, rabbits and one very special pot-bellied pig. Without Harvest Home, these animals would have no where else to go and would likely be euthanized. Harvest Home provides loving care, food, shelter and medical treatment for their 200+ rescued residents. I've really enjoyed volunteering at Harvest Home Sanctuary. My favorite volunteer opportunities are the rabbit and chicken spa days, where the animals are given a full health check and nail trim. Harvest Home also educates the public about the treatment of farmed animals and has given people the opportunity to meet these animal ambassadors face to face and see them as living beings. Once you feed a turkey a cranberry, your life will never be the same! It is an honor and a privilege to volunteer at Harvest Home and I'm proud to also be a Harvest Home supporter.
