Mission: Harrison medical center foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises and manages charitable gifts for the benefit of harrison medical center. As a friend of the hospital, the foundation's purpose is to make a positive difference in people's lives by supporting the hospital in the provision of exceptional medical care, now and in the future.
Programs: The harrison medical center foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3), tax-exempt, charitable foundation in 1986 to serve as the official gift-receiving and gift-administration agency for harrison medical center harrison medical center foundation's 3-member staff and 11-member board of trustees raised funds through annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, special events, corporate/foundation grants and gift shop revenue to help fund virtually every health care program, project and community outreach service offered by the hospital. The foundation's fy 2017 fund-raising events for harrison medical center included, mathis guild spring fundraiser and the violet e. Carlson table top christmas. In fy 17, the harrison medical center foundation raised $889,952 and at the same time, disbursed $1. 19 million back into the community through its support of harrison medical center's nonprofit health care services. Providing quality health care for all who need it, regardless of ability to pay, is an important part of the harrison medical center's mission as well as that of the foundation. The foundation assists harrison foundation medical center in providing care for the poor by encouraging its donors to contribute gifts the small favors fund, which provides clothing, transportation, and medical supplies for patients who don't have money to pay for these things themselves. The harrison medical center foundation funds a nurse residency program, which provides an extensive 18 week education program for recently hired nurses to provide further education on the latest health care research developments and medical techniques. The foundation awarded $50,800 in scholarship funding for 11 community nurses in the kitsap peninsula pursuing advanced nursing degrees. Financial assistance is used to help them improve their professional training in order to provide the best possible care for their patients. Last year, our employee giving club distributed $29,299 to employees in need through emergency assistance funding. Finally, through the harrison foundation women's screening fund, 18 women received financial assistance, totally over $4,700 towards of their care. In fy 2017, the foundation distributed funds to hospital services and programs to benefit staff and patients including: emergency room equipment, boomerang club employee giving supported projects and helping hand contributions, family birth center furnishing, pediatric rehabilitation program support, shaken baby prevention support, harrison medical center computer training room, heart failure clinic capital needs, touching hearts saving lives campaign, family residency program, integrative, health program supplies, the les & betty krueger family healing garden project, oncology meditation room and support group, palliative care services program supplies, copd continuing education, home health ceu conference, sane ceu conference, and specialty certification training for clinicians. The harrison medical center foundation's primary community initiatives in fy 2017 was the conclusion of the touching hearts saving lives campaign - a community-wide program that provides wrap-around cardiac care services throughout the harrison services area including technology and equipment for ems and fire departments, community cpr education, and the launch of the pulse point app. Additionally, the foundation board of trustees, using unrestricted earnings has committed to provide up to $1 million in funding to support the start-up cost associated with the launch of a new family residency program over fy2016 and fy2017. Once implemented this program will increase the number of primary care providers in our community, providing greater access for residents to receive care.
