Mission: Hands On Greater Portland is a nonprofit organization that connects 15,000 volunteers a year with meaningful volunteer opportunities, feeding those in need, caring for the homeless, teaching children and caring for the elderly. As Portland's only volunteer center, Hands On partners with more than 250 nonprofits, schools and government agencies, providing critical volunteer support to the greater Portland metropolitan area through hundreds of one day projects, on going volunteer teams and long term volunteer placements. Hands On is a national organization but Hand On Portland is especially effective in its role.
I have volunteered with this organization for over 7 years. Thaey act as a great liason between non-profits that need help and the large volunteer base in the Portland metropolitan area. They also have an amazing Teamworks program that builds community through small groups volunteering at a number of different non-profits that share a theme.
Everyone has a pet non-profit. But HoP works to connect each of these organizations with volunteers in a clear and effective manner.
