Programs: The hope chest -- the hope chest is an outreach ministry of hands of hope (hoh) that provides a service to all people of mcdowell county, west virginia. Hands of hope currently operates one hope chest store in welch, west virginia. Through the hope chests, hands of hope provides clothing, furniture, household and hygiene items. The stores sell mostly donated items as well as a few items that have been purchased by hoh at a substantial discount. Income generated from the stores is then used to fund other outreach ministries and projects in mcdowell county such as christmas gifts and meals, assistance to local schools and distributing weekend food bags each month.
missionary support -- during 2014 hands of hope partially supported one missionary in west virginia and various other mission teams that volunteer their time during the year. The missionaries help build relationships in the community and identify and serve individuals and families in need of food, clothing, medication and home repair. The missionaries carry the message of the gospel and work to help meet the needs of people as well implement programs to encourage and strengthen individuals and families to make better life choices. Additionally, they provide inspiration and direction to individuals, groups, and churches to become more involved in the mission field.
feeding programs -- hands of hope is a group of committed servants of god working to collect and distribute food, clothing and supplies to reach out to others. The various feeding programs of hoh fulfill part of this ministry by distributing donated and purchased food items to families in need. In 2014, hoh supported church and local food pantries and supplied reduced cost food boxes to families. Additionally food is often distributed directly to homes of hungry families as volunteers and missionaries visit and minister.
other community outreach -- additional program service accomplishments include coordinating the various service projects performed by the 220 volunteers that contributed their time to hands of hope in 2014. These projects include various community services like home repair, maintaining and improving hands of hope facilities, ladies night out meetings for women, library support, vacation bible school, humane society support, donations to veterans and donations to a women's shelter, etc.
