Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Foster Care

Mission: Our mission to support children, families, and those who serve them is grounded in the belief that communities must support the following four groups to have a positive impact on the foster system: foster children, foster parents, social workers, and biological families. Our primary objective is to provide a safe haven during a time of great crisis and uncertainty for the hundreds of children in our community who are faced with the trauma of being forcibly removed from their homes and have nowhere else to turn. Our programs address the immediate, short term and long term needs of children entering or re-entering foster care through three levels of care. Safe Place addresses the immediate, urgent needs of children during the first 72 hours of their removal from their homes, including emergency shelter, food, hygiene, medical care and physical and emotional comfort. In circumstances where more than 72 hours are required to find the right placement for a child or sibling group, Selah Homes provides short term foster care for for up to 28 days while long term placement is sought. Finally, we offer many additional resources such as support groups, trainings and a resource center that connects foster families and children with other community resources, with the goal of improving care for children and increasing retention rates in caregiver homes. Our main guiding principal is James 1:27 - "Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you."
