Programs: Farmers market at hamakua harvest. We have 16 vendors offering fresh locally grown produce, value-added products and ono food. Snap/ebt most of our vendors accept snap/ebt at their booths with products ranging from produce and bread to honey, cheese, and cold takeaway items. The markets weekend workshops, informational booths, and youth-focused activities are designed to respond directly to the needs and interests of the local community.
hamakua harvests demonstration farm and orchard encompass a three-acre diversified farming system, modeling the most economically and environmentally viable crops for the hamakua region. Proven, innovative techniques will be used to demonstrate a variety of sustainable agriculture practices, as well as practical business methods to help local family farms succeed in todays market. The demonstration farm and orchard will integrate hands-on learning opportunities for all skill levels while supplying healthy, fresh, local produce for residents.
hamakua harvest is partnering with the hamakua youth foundation in this innovative, hands-on, youth development and education program that will provide local youth with anoutdoor classroom for learning about agriculture and food production, entrepreneurship, and sustainable land management. Eventually, the program will also give residents the chance to purchase fresh, healthy produce through a farm share model where interested consumers can sign up to receive a box of seasonal produce each week.
