Mission: Halcyon seeks and celebrates creativity in all forms and galvanizes creative individuals aspiring to promote social good. We bring together diverse groups of changemakers in art and social enterprise and provide a safe haven for their bold ideas to take flight. Halcyon offers an ecosystem of advocacy that encourages socially engaged creatives to learn, freely experiment, sometimes fail, and advance their talents and visions. In doing so, we foster new pathways to knowledge and resources, and help innovators transform their inspiration into impact.
Programs: Halcyon arts lab: halcyon arts lab is a new robust program that is designed to advance the foundation's mission to support a group of change makers in the art to make a social impact locally and globally. The program is offered at the fillmore school, located at 1801 35th street, nw, washington, d. C. , owned by s&r foundation. Through a residential fellowship program, which commenced in the fall of 2017, halcyon arts lab supports talented emerging artists from around the world to explore new ideas, grow artistically, and spark social change. It does so by removing the financial and resource barriers that exist for the emerging artists, and by providing a supporting environment and community that seek to advance the artists, professional development and creative ambitions. Halcyon arts lab offers a nine (9)-month residential fellowship program for up to eight (8) artists in the different artistic fields from around the world. The program provides work space, accommodation, financial aid, artistic materials and resources, professional development including mentorship, business, communications, legal and strategic support, access to networks and technology, and collaborative opportunities with fellow artistic, social entrepreneurs, and d. C. Based arts organizations. Additionally, halcyon arts lab is designed to provide the local underserved students with the mentorship and resources they need to create and deliver impactful community-focused arts projects' each fellow participating in the halcyon arts lab incubator program will nominate a high school student from underserved areas in washington, d. This "hub" concept is also intended to foster a creative and collaborative environment that cultivates exchanges between fellows, visiting artists and professionals, and serve as a valuable resource for the broader washington, d. C. Community.
halcyon incubator: halcyon incubator is committed to solving 21st-century challenges throughout the nation and the world. By helping social entrepreneurs transform audacious ideas into scalable and sustainable ventures, the halcyon incubator acts as a catalyst for measurable social outcomes. It's perhaps the most immersive incubator in the world that focuses on both social impact and profit. During this 18-month fellowship, a diverse cohort of fellows receives free residency and workspace, mentorship and leadership coaching, robust support from business consultants, and a living stipend to develop their entrepreneurial vision into reality. Fellows engage with the program in two major stages:- residency (5 months): fellows live and work at the halcyon incubator with unfettered access to expert guidance. They also participate in core programming that includes pitch sessions, a skill development series and other events, ultimately taking part in a "demo day" in front of partners and investors. - post-residency (13 months): fellows continue to work at the halcyon incubator, with free access to all resources to further build their networks, secure funding, and grow their venture. Halcyon's well-honed methodology fosters creativity through an environment of freedom, access, collaboration and support. It gives prospective impact leaders the physical and mental space to freely take risks and exercise their ingenuity. By removing barriers and supplying resources, halcyon empowers visionaries regardless of their means or circumstances. In this way, it disrupts the status quo of who has access to entrepreneurship opportunities.
halcyon stage: halcyon stage is an innovative performance series to advance the foundations' mission to support a diverse group of creative artists with a public platform: halcyon stage. Halcyon stage is a new performance series open to the general public that spotlights fusion of innovative performances, transformative conversations, and experiences that push past traditional boundaries and limitations. The program is aimed at engaging the community at large in a dialogue surrounding the nature of creativity and innovation in the 21st century. Programs include interdisciplinary performances, film screenings, a "new creatives" lectures and discussion series, and deep community engagement initiatives, including educational opportunities for underserved students, as well as free community events.
