Mission: Our purpose is for those affected by trauma, and those who support them, hagar is an expert in care and recovery. Our focus is on working with women and children who are suffering from the impact of trauma resulting from slavery, trafficking, and abuse.
Programs: In 2017, hagar usa funds provided direct client support and staff training through hagar vietnam, based in hanoi. Hagar usa helped to fund crucial trauma recovery services to 110 women and children who had experienced human rights abuses. Hagar usa's funding also enabled hagar vietnam to train 400 government staff members on best practice service provision to those who have been traumatized. Through the funding hagar vietnam was also able to raise awareness on human rights abuses through client art installments with 700 event attendees learning more about the issues of human trafficking, domestic violence, and abuse.
in 2017, hagar usa also contributed to holistic recovery services for women and children who have suffered severe human rights abuses in cambodia. Specific programs supported by hagar usa funds included case management services, specialized trauma counseling, staff capacity building and well-being, and ongoing support and vision care for an acid attack survivor. In 2017 hagar usa funds had a significant impact on more than 250 survivors and their families in our hagar cambodia programs, helping them rebuild their lives and become whole again. Funding also enabled 35 team members to benefit from ongoing training opportunities; and 100 hagar cambodia employees had the opportunity for a retreat to reflect, improve personal well-being, and strategize for the year ahead.
hagar international began a trauma informed care capacity building project in myanmar in 2017. The purpose of the project is to share hagar's expertise in trauma recovery services in a country with very limited social services support for those who have suffered trauma. The funding helped to support hagar to develop curriculum, train, and provide ongoing coaching for 4 large ngo's (serving tens of thousands of clients) on effective trauma care. The project continues in 2018 when the training of trainers model is implemented to expand the number of organizations who are trauma informed.
