Mission: Habitat for humanity is a ecumenical christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Programs: Habitat builds and renovates affordable homes in hall county, georgia, through volunteer labor and with the assistance of the future low income homeowner families. Future homeowners are required to contribute "sweat equity" which means contributing a minimum number of hours of labor into the building of their own house as well as the houses of others. Habitat houses are sold to low income families at approximate cost utilizing 20- year interest-free mortgages. Habitat finances its operations through contributions, grants, and in-kind donations, from individuals, foundations, corporations, public agencies and religious organizations.
habitat operates the habitat for humanity restore (the "restore"), a retail operation where home furnishings, appliances, and other miscellaneous items are donated and then sold to the community at a greatly reduced price. Revenue is recognized by habitat at the date the goods are sold. The restore is operated with the sole purpose of generating funds to assist in the organization's main purpose of building houses.
