I was introduced to Habitat for Horses by Ginger Barber who serves in a leadership role on their board. We have worked on several fund raisers and projects for HfH so I saw first hand how the organization operates.Ginger Barber and Rebecca Williams, Director work closely with the founder, Jerry Finch and the board to run a tight ship. They are excellent stewards with the funds. They stretch the money as far as it will reach giving the horses the most safe and healing environment possible. The board works cohesively and has excellent contacts and connections which also benefit the horses. An excellent organization with an outstanding director and board.

I am the volunteer coordinator and an investigator at HfH. Over the years I have seen so many abused and neglected horses come through our gate, and have witnessed the transformation from sad and afraid, to healthy and trusting as these magnificent animals find new adoptive homes. It is all about the horses... And donkeys.

My husband is a ranch hand for this nonprofit and it is simply amazing. They do so much for so many horses in need. They rescue sick horses and provide them with much needed care and love. Even if the horse never gets adopted they can live out their lives grazing and enjoying life on their beautiful ranch. All rescues should model after this one!

I was looking for a rescue to volunteer at and donate to. After visiting a number of places, Habitat For Horses was the one a decided on. They clearly have it together and are legitimate. I wanted to do something that was good for the soul. These horses and I saved each other. Thanks HFH.

A great place to work or volunteer for those who love horses and donkeys. The work and effort put forth everyday to give the residents a good life and hopeful future is truly incredible.
Since 2008 have seen too many stories to talk about so the best advice can give anyone is to come out and see for self.
Will not be disappointed.
Thanks to Jerry, Rebecca, Ginger, all employees and volunteers, it's definitely a team effort.

Throughout the years I have watched Habitat for Horses grow from 2 horses to over 300 and develop into a wonderful and caring organization that has taken horses in from those that could not move to horses that were “ready to ride”. In each case, the horses have been treated with individual care, attention, and with much love. Some of the horses have found a forever home while others will be at the ranch forever. Other horses are ready for adoption now. The caregivers are all very dedicated and conscientious making certain that each horse is considered individually and that each horse receives love, attention, and, in most cases, much needed care.

Habitat for Horses is an incredible organization that goes above and beyond to rescue equines. They provide exceptional care for high-need horses and do everything they can to find loving families for adoptable horses. Those who cannot be adopted get to live out their days being cared for and loved by those at the ranch. Their ranch is a wonderful space where horses can roam free with all the food and care they could need.

I've been to Habitat for Horses ranch and am amazed by the dedication the staff as to caring for horses that have been abused and starved. The ranch must feel like heaven to these horses who were cruel treated. I'm also amazed at how well run the operation is. They have like, 300 or more horses!

I adopted two donkeys from habitat for Horses. I couldn't be happier with them. They just follow one another in my pasture all day long. They don't bother a thing except eat the grass!

As a law enforcement officer, I've seldom worked with nonprofits as professional as Habitat for Horses. In our small town, we didn't have the expertise or space to complete a seizure of 4 starved horses. One call to Habitat for Horses and they handled everything - all the way through the court appearance.

After fifty years of working with horses in all phases of the horse world, I found out about a training system that I wish I had used 50 years ago. I had always trained with positive reinforcement but this system carries it to a new level. I attended their clinic two weekends ago and saw the wonderful effect it had on both horses and humans. They both were having tremendous fun learning!!! I've applied the technique to my 2 horses and 5 burros, all rescues, and have had amazing results. They offer the training free to rescues so I hope you will check out their website. www.connectiontraining.com. I wish I lived closer so I could volunteer with you but instead I am doing my part with my rescue animals in far West Texas. The need is everywhere. Thank you for the work you do.

This equine organization has been around for 20 years. It keeps growing, so they must be doing something right. Great people that work with law enforcement on seizures, rehabilitate and adopt horses and donkeys after background checks. Highly recommended

I have been a volunteer at the Habitat for Horses since 2010. I've seen horses come in who were horribly abused or neglected; emaciated, and sick. And I have watched them come back to life under the expert care and love of the staff at the Habitat, and become happy and healthy again.

It has been my honor and my privilege to volunteer at the Habitat for Horses since 2010. I have seen miracles unfold at the ranch when horses are brought in, some close to death because of abuse or neglect, and I watch their dedicated staff and volunteers bring them back to life. Not only do the horses and donkeys receive the medical care that is necessary, but they receive the love and attention, plus the nutrition that they need, to become horses worthy and able to be adopted out. It is both a haven and a hospice for the horses and I am proud to be part of this organization. Debbie Stoutamire

Habitat for Horses can always be relied upon to keep me informed on the very latest news on all things related to the well being of horses, both in the wild in the arena, and those retired. It is very active in trying to rescue horses in the slaughter pipeline, from the last act of kindness if that is all that can be done, to restoring to health and adopting them out. I have been reading their daily emails for years, and they have earned my trust as an unbiased source.

8 years ago I had the pleasure of living on HfH's ranch for a month, and volunteering every day. Since then, I have been back twice to volunteer a day or 2 at a time. The ranch is an incredible peaceful place. (HfH is in TX, I live in NC. If I were local, I would volunteer year round!) They are far and away the best equine rescue I have ever seen. They are well organized, well run, and they have only the horse's best interests at heart. Jerry, who started HfH, is a phenomenal human being, and he and Rebecca give this their all, and then some. I recommend this rescue to everyone I know in the equine world, because you know your money is being well spent, and that this organization is here to stay. I cannot say enough good things about them, and feel lucky to have been (and still consider myself to be) a part of the HfH family.

Habitat for Horses puts their hearts and souls into saving the lives of innocent horses whose owners have abandoned or abused them. Their team is dedicated and each life saved is a celebrated victory...each loss...mourned. These folks are the real deal. They also adopt out horses to loving homes. Their stories will break your heart...but their love and dedication will mend it. Please help support them! I do..

Habitat for Horses has an important job. To educate those who are unaware of the importance of saving American icons and a piece of our American Heritage. If I lived closer, I would volunteer, but the best I can do is donate.
