Hi Everyone, I'm pleased to share my story with you. During this Covid-19 period I decided to adopt 2 feral kittens from an organization not knowing of Guilderhaven. After having my 2 precious kittens for a month they both erupted with terrible fleas and worms. I called for a new veterinary appt. and was not able to get in for three weeks. Although, they referred me to Sue at Guilderhaven! Thank you Sue! How understanding, how knowledgeable, and when Sue needed more information she reached out immediately to other expert resources for answers and got right back to me. She had a medical plan for my kittens! We are so fortunate to have even met Sue on that same day. What a blessing. What a relief and how much more secure Sue made my household feel. Thank you.❣️What a wonderful organization. Thank you for all you do!!

Sue is one of the nicest women I have ever met. Her passion for this organization shines. My dog was able to have a lower cost spaying that was more affordable for me. Thanks. And she is always ready to donate baskets to try and raise money for them.
Couldn’t say enough.
Oh wait they also donated a waste station for our downtown area. With her help I was able to get 5 places in the city and now the city is adding 10 more. So thanks!

For me Guilderhaven is the gold standard for doing what is best for the pet.

Christmas Eve 2000 Guilderhaven brought me a trap and helped me rescue a stray/lost cat. It was obvious some one loved and cared for her. Her coat was beautiful. Nails trimmed. Ears sparkling clean. She was just scared, hungry and cold.

We had friends visiting that were celebrating Hanukkah and we were celebrating Christmas. On the hope that her family would not be found we stayed up until early morning coming up with a name for her. We named her Star for the holidays.

Through their networking they searched for the cats owner. I have to admit I was hoping the owner would not be found! Guilderhaven found the owner on New Years Eve. The owners were so happy to hear she was o.k.. I was totally bummed.

Guilderhaven found out they had rescued her on the side of the road in Virginia while on a family vacation. They brought her back to Guilderland. They love and cared for her. But she was very timid with the other pets they already had in their home.

Guilderhaven let them know we were pet lovers too and she had been very well cared for with us. After some conversation they decided it would be best for her in our home as it was a little quieter. I could not have been happier!

Guilderhaven helped with the rescue on Christmas Eve, searched for the owner and ultimately helped guide the decision making on what would be best for the pet.

Thanks to Guilderhaven she was the best Christmas present ever. We were very fortunate to have this very snugglie, loving, beautiful kitty we treasured for 16 fantastic years.

We have maintained our continued support for Guilderhaven since Christmas 2000.

I found a nest of baby bunnies that had been scattered by something; two were already dead, but three were still moving. I called several rescues but was turned away by all of them until we found Guilderhaven. They gladly took in the survivors and successfully raised them. I have nothing but huge kudos for this group, not only for accepting these babies when no one else would, but also for their dedication, commitment, and hard work. These people are nothing less than heroic!

Whenever I have a friend that needs help with a stray animal, I just call Guilderhaven and get the answers I need. Recently we had a person who needed assistance with her cat and as always, Guilderhaven was able to point me in the right direction. What would I do without them? If ever I say I will call Guilderhaven, people are so grateful. Thank you for always being there for everyone.

We adopted our dog Skye from Guilderhaven years ago. He was abandoned twice but the volunteers never gave up on him. They walked him and took care of him until he found his forever home with us. They helped acclimate him to his new surroundings with us and he lived to a ripe old age of 16 being loved and spoiled. Guilderhaven exists on donations, plant and book sales, etc. It’s amazing what they can accomplish and how many people they are able to help!

I cannot believe it has been >16 years since Guilderhaven, inc. received their 501(c)(3) certification. Since that time the organization has changed but the overall mission of helping the animal community has not. Guilderhaven, inc. has consistently provided education and low cost spay/neuter for more than 13 years. In addition, Sue Green, the current Chair is accessible 24/7 to help the public with any emergency and any question.

Susan green and guilderhaven are awesome. No one wants to see homeless pets. No one ! I am an animal lover to sa thy the least. I just recently moved back to New York due to hurricane florence in South Carolina which destroyed my house. On my way out battling the storm I saved four little tiger kittens. I just knew I couldn't afford to have them spayed and neutered by of the financial devastation that the hurricane had caused. However I did know I could give them a forever home and with the help of guilderhaven they would be spayed and neutered to help cont extol the pet population and keep them healthy. I thank everyone from this organization that has made it possible for me to keep my new found babies. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

We have been working with Guilderhaven for about 7 years now. I love being able to help these families get their pets spayed and neutered. They are also given vaccines when they come in for surgery and are tested for heartworm and lyme disease. If it wasn't for them most of these people couldn't get it done. I'm thankful this organization is out there.

As a friend of someone who has been involved with Guilderhaven for years, I can surely say that the dedication and effort that goes into this organization is amazing. This is an organization of wonderful people who always go out of their way to help our furry friends.

When a stray cat arrived on our doorstep and we found the local shelter to be full and not accepting any more cats, we resorted to calling Guilderhaven, who referred us to a local veterinarian who would spay/neuter the cat for a nominal fee. Although we already had two rescue cats and would not have chosen to add one more to our family, it has worked out well and Guilderhaven staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful.

Several years ago, a friend’s cat was hit by a car. She called several veterinarians to treat her cat but she could not afford the care. None of the veterinarians’ offices would accept a payment plan. She called me and I put her in touch with Sue at Guilderhaven. Sue immediately made arrangements for the cat to receive veterinary care and paid the bill. The cat had been seriously injured and a leg was amputated. My friend still has her cat today because of Sue and Guilderhaven. Guilderhaven is a very compassionate organization that ALWAYS put the animal’s needs first. Guilderhaven came to the rescue of a gorgeous Irish Setter who lived in our neighborhood. This dog was neglected and left outside without food, water or shelter. My neighbors and I contacted our local animal control office several times, only to see no results. I contacted Georgia from Guilderhaven who immediately visited the owners of the Irish setter. She spoke at length with the owner who ended up sending the dog to a loving home coordinated by Georgia. Now, Max the Irish Setter is living a happy, healthy and fulfilled life! Last week my girl crossed the rainbow bridge to heaven with Dr.Ottos kind help, she came home today in a beautiful wooden box. I asked if i had outstanding bills & he told me Sue & Guilderhaven paid her bill & for that i am very grateful. & am now in a position to make a donation to Guilderhaven so someone in the same circumstances can receive medical care for their dog. Thank you again sorry it took so long. Waiting for my heart to stop hurting so I can open it again to a new fur baby. Sincerely Robin Elliott

I, Barbara A. Biittig, rescued a yorkie who is 11 years old. He was found at our local golf club and had be there for over 2 weeks. I am the Town Clerk in our Town and the owner of the club called me to see what could be done with this little guy. He had not been neutered, very bad teeth, and was very skinny. To have every thing done to him was very expensive. I checked with Guilderhaven and spoke with a very wonderful lady who gave me all the information on him being neutered through their program. Riley was neutered with such wonderful care. He is doing wonderful and is a new dog. He joined my other 3 eleven year dogs. Thanks to Guilderhaven Riley has a new lease on life and feels like a 7 year old. This is a wonderful thing that is being done by them.

Guilderhaven is the best organization to help animals I have ever seen. We are so blessed to have them in our community. No one could care more or do more for our helpless furry friends and family members. A few years ago my mother died and I was left with her dog. My husband did not want us to take him in, so I contacted Guilderhaven. They were amazing. They immediately put up flyers and advertised his story, looking for a good 'forever home'. Their efforts were amazing. I had several people contact me. In the meantime, my husband saw how much I loved the dog and had a change of heart, so we were able to keep the dog. But I will never forget how Guilderhaven was there for me and my mother's dog at our lowest time. Thank you for everything you do. You are a Godsend.

She connected me with her phenomenal Veterinary team and told me she would help support us however the organization could! She was honest and very upfront with expectations and advice. I couldn't possibly put into words what all of this meant to me during a very difficult time. I have since done everything I can to help support guilderhaven because I was blessed with first hand experience of the kind of love and support they offer not only the animals but the people that love them and are in need. Guilderhaven provides a very valuable service to the community through low-cost spaying/neutering cats.

My mother loves her cat. Her cat provides her unconditional love and companionship. However, she lives on a very limited income. In 2015, Guilderhaven facilitated the spay/neuter of 561 cats so that those like my mother can have a pet responsibly.

It is such a great organization that provides a wonderful service to our community!

I have known the people at Guilderhaven, Inc. for many years. They work tirelessly for the unfortunate animals. I have used them to get one dog spayed and one dog neutered, preventing unwanted litters for a family. I am now going to reach out to them for help with a mother cat that has had four kittens at my home. The mother is no more than a kitten herself, and is feral, so the entire family will have to be trapped. They all will need shots and be spayed and neutered. I live in the country, and am finding unwanted cats all the time. I am in greyhound rescue, so I know what it takes to re-home an animal. I also work with a local horse rescue organization. The job of caring for animals unfortunate enough to find themselves needing help is huge. To keep on going the way Guilderhaven, Inc. has, makes an enormous difference.

Guilderhaven is one of the best volunteer groups that I have ever dealt with. Guilderhaven first helped us many years ago with numerous barn cats that we were caring for at a local equine facility. They helped with medical expenses many times when these cats needed veterinary care. When that facility closed, they were instrumental in helping catch many of these feral cats and rehome them. Sue Green, one of the board members, even came out with us late at night to assist in our efforts to catch all the cats! Guilderhaven is an all volunteer organization that truly cares about the animals. My husband and I continue to support Guilderhaven and the important work they do.

They were right, so right that I went back later and wanted to get Jack's friend Molly, another pit bull. The Guilderhaven folks made sure they got reacquainted before letting me take them both home. I credit Guilderhaven's patient work with both those dogs that made them such great companion animals for over 10 years. We were working with the Trap, Neuter, Release program - our goal was to keep the number of cats down rather than having the population explode. Barn cats are very important to our farm and we value their presence!
There was a really wild female that we trapped and and had spayed funded by Guilderhaven. The vet suggested that we hold her a few days to be sure the incision healed properly and it was in December - very cold.
Of course after a few days of caring for the cat in the house, we fell in love! And kept her as our own. She spent a few days under the bed, but very soon after she claimed her place as Queen of the Castle, keeping the dogs in their place! Of course we reimbursed Guilderhaven so they could help another!
I am very grateful for the work the organization plays in our community - the group of dedicated volunteers deserve our thanks and support.

We are now an incorporated 501(c)(3) organization, the Community Animal Action Project, a community outreach organization for animals.

Guilderhaven continues to be a mentor and source of inspiration not only for our organization, but so many others. Guilderhaven exemplifies the power of organizations and individuals working together to improve the lives of animals where we live.

The unreleasable raptors then become wildlife ambassadors at many events. I work at a venue that has had the pleasure of hosting these wildlife ambassadors. The children love to see the live wild animals and these interactions help to foster a love and respect for wild animals and nature on the whole.

We have an office building that has mirrored windows. One day last month a hummingbird ran into the window. We ran out to get it but it wouldn't fly away although it would lap up suger water from our fingers. We left it in a tree but it would not fly away. We were heartbroken. We called Guilderhaven and they called a local vet who rehabilitates birds. We took the little thing to the vet and she will do everything possible to save it. At least we had the satisfaction of knowing we did everything we could. Guilderhaven has many partners and wildlife rehabilitatiors are some of them. It doesn't matter who you are, they seem to always come to the rescue of any kind of animal. Awesome organization!

I volunteer with a few local shelters and organizations and everyone at Guilderhaven has been very happy to help me in my efforts, whether it be getting a dog in the paper, on their website, or just helping get the animal a forever home. They are a very genuine and caring group and their efforts are well respected and appreciated by myself. I am sure that others would feel the same way. This group is willing to go the extra mile to help any animal that could benefit from it.

I am proud to be a board member of Guilderhaven,Inc.
People who love their pets and find themselves with emergency situations that they are unable to handle emotionally or financially turn to our organization for help. We are fortunate to be able to help so many companion animals and their owners who turn to us on a daily basis. We not only help fund low cost spay and neuter clinics but we also educate the public on how important it is to spay & neuter your pets.
I am also a wildlife rehabilitator and Guilderhaven pays all my costs and has helped me build aviaries for my birds of prey. Under Guilderhaven, I offer live bird of prey programs to teach children and adults about habitat loss and the impact on our ecosystem.

In the fall of 2013 I received a call from one of my best friends who was in a desperate situation. Having lost her job and struggling to find new work, her unemployment benefits ran out and most days she was going hungry herself so that her cats could eat. Friends chipped in to help out where we could but we couldn't help for much longer and she was out of cat food and needed help. I called local Veterinary offices and asked if there was any program known that would help people who had fallen on hard times in an emergency. I was told to call Guilderhaven. I didn't know what this organization did but I called and explained the situation. Sue Green arranged to meet me that day to drop off some emergency cat food supplies. I expected maybe a small bag of cat food and walked down the street to meet her. She opened her car and gave me two huge bags of cat food, and then a ride back up to my house with them! She also said to have my friend call when the supplies got low and they would be able to help again! I couldn't believe it and my friend, and her cats were extremely grateful. I began attending fundraisers and met several members of Guilderhaven whose work and stories are an amazing inspiration of what people can do to help animals. My friend has since gotten a job and is back on her feet but I have not forgotten the miracle this group performed in coming to the rescue. I want everyone to know about and support this organization. We may think we will never need the help that this group provides, but they offer so much for the animals and their people, and in today's hard economic climate NO ONE is immune from needing some kind of help at some point.

I have known about Guilderhaven for quite sometime and always donated to this wonderful cause. Now being a board member I have seen first hand what a difference this organization can make in both animals and owners lives. Not only for domestic animals but also for wildlife, being 1 of 2 rehabilitators involved with this organization I couldn't be prouder to be a part of this wonderful organization.

Guilderhaven has helped many animal lovers who have fell on hard times financially and helped by spay/neuter programs, donating food, emergency vet visits. Has also offered their advice and directed people to the appropriate animal trainers/behaviorists, which in turn has helped the owners to make the decision to keep their pets instead of turning them into already overcrowded shelters. They also have helped animals get adopted out by advertising them on their website and also spreading the word of great animals at area shelters. They have also done educational programs at local schools to teach children how to treat animals w/kindness and how to be a responsible pet owner. They also teach about wildlife creatures. I have witnessed Guilderhaven people calm a person down who thinks they have no other choice but to give an animal up, and offer much better solutions.

By working very closely with Guilderhaven over the last ten years I am able to work with the very poor inner-city residents to help spay/neuter dogs and cats for pet owners who have limited or no income and just can't afford the spay/neuter cost for their pets. Most of these owners have pets because they opened their door to a starving and/or pregnant cat on the porch or took a dog from a home where it was was being neglected (beaten, caged, and/or fed very little).

Guilderhaven totally understands the need to help these pets and 100% supports spay/neuter as the solution to reduce the number of homeless pets in our inner-city community. They field every phone call for help that comes in and work very hard to find a solution to whatever animal situation that comes along. Besides this huge undertaking Guilderhaven also reaches deep in their hearts to find energy for continual fund-raising.

Thank you Guilderhaven for all you do!!

I adopted a dog from this group before they became incorporated as Guilderhaven. They were a group of volunteers who actively served our town for over 30 years. They were very supportive of our adoption, encouraging us to bring our current dog with us to the shelter to be sure she got along with the dog we planned on adopting; ;they provided pre-visits to our house, and post advice. I watched them become incorporated as they faced opposition from the town we live in (who wanted to turn them into a kill shelter group and they refused). Their fight received publicity and wide support from residents in the town . They have gone on to raise money to continue their efforts in a large spay and neuter program, and to provide funds to elderly and low-income folks who cannot afford vet care. They are very hard working volunteers who do big things with the amount of money they are able to raise.
