Causes: Centers to Support the Independence of Specific Populations, Human Services
Mission: To provide guardianship and alternative services to legally and functionally incapacitated individuals who have no family member or friend who is willing, able, or suitable to assist with their needs.
Programs: In tarrant county, concerned individuals can refer wards directly to the court, rather than having to hire an attorney. This court - initiated procedure allows guardianship services, inc. ("gsi") to avoid the conflict of interest many companies face when they both present proof of need to the court, and then serve as a guardian. Guardians are certified by the texas guardianship certification board, and adhere to standards created by the board. Tarrant county probate courts appointed gsi as guardian to 17 at-risk adult residents for the year ended september 30, 2017. Gsi also continued to serve as guardian for 408 clients for whom the agency had been appointed in previous years.
guardianship services, inc. ("gsi") provides representative payee services as well as money management services which teach persons with intellectual developmental disabilities to become more independent. These alternatives frequently delay or prevent the establishment of a guardianship. They are also highly effective at preventing financial exploitation. In september 2017, gsi added the financial exploitation prevention center to its money management program, to create a unified network of partners committed to the prevention, protection, and prosecution of financial exploitation of aging and/or disabled adults in tarrant county.
