Causes: Farmland Preservation, Food
Mission: Guardians of agricultural lands, inc was formed to fund activities to preserve the agricultural way of life in southeastern idaho, and protect farm lands from intrusive non-agricultureal development. The shareholders are deeply involved in agriculture and are concerned that non-agriculture type of activities threaten the agriculture heritage of the area. The officers and shareholders meet and review developments such as threats from eminent domain activity which may take or subvert farm land for non-agricultural purposes and ruin the farmability of remaining lands adjacent to the lands removed from agricultural uses. The organization will also need to form coalitions with local goverments and other similar groups to preserve the rural agricutural way of life.
Programs: Goal, inc. Participated in or organized many public meetings for southeastern idaho farmers and land owners concerning the potential damaging effects of high voltage electricity transmission line proposed by idaho power, pacific corp, and northwest energy through farm lands in eastern idaho. Goal provided testimony and information to an agricultural economist charged with studying the economic impact of high voltage transmission line on irrigated farm lands. Goal's expenditures included research and information to provide data to the economist's study. Individual goal members used this information to explain the potential damaging effects of interfering with center pivot crop irrigation and the other problems caused by high voltage lines.
