Horses have always been a big part of my life, when I moved away from home for school, I lost a lot of my time with horses. Guardian Oak has become a place I can go to relax, to free my mind. I am 3 hours from my own horses, but Guardian Oak is just down the road from me. When my family comes to visit, we go out there as well. It is a family friendly place where we can all get hands on with a horse, no matter the size, all while we get to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
I volunteered with GO when it first moved into Randolph County roughly 5 years ago. Some of the same horses they have from 5 years ago, still grace their pastures. They have far too many horses on a small piece of ground. They are pushing rescue to hoarding of animals. Too few of the horses are finding forever homes, rather they are sitting with 20+ other equids in a pasture only capable of handling half that amount.
I've been volunteering here for a while; it's so refreshing to work with people who really care! My two daughters, ages 10 and 12, absolutely love helping out and they adore Sherri and the Guardian Oak family.
Absolutely love this place!! Love animals in general, and being around these rescues and being able to interact with them, as well as be able to give them some love, it's great!! We plan to take our daughter out there more, as well as our son when he is older!!
While visiting at Guardian Oak one day a gentleman came in who was obviously mentally delayed. Sherri never batted an eye over this fellas dress, or his inappropriate (though innocent) stories. She answered question after question about how to care for his animals even though he was often sidetracked in the middle of her answering. By the time he left he was equipped with resources and had made spay/neuter appoints for all his pets. I was so impressed with her kindness and patience. This is the kind of person and NFP that will make a difference. I learned a lot and was truly impressed.
My first experience with GO was 5 years ago when I visited the rescue with my family. We had such a great time meeting the horses and learning about their history. Then a year later we ended up with Bear. He was such an amazing addition to our family. GO tries to help any animal they can and even if they physically can't they attempt to educate and help anyway they can.
Guardian Oak has taken a stand to help the homeless and feral cat population in this area. No other organization will speak for this under represented population of creatures. Thank you!
Out of the five years I've been around Guardian Oak I've seen miracles from horses that were left alone never given a chance so broken down they had lost their spirit to coming to Guardian Oak and thriving full of life love ect. They have also helped the cats along the local community with TNR (trap neuter release) medical supplies vet care donating food to be owners who are in need. They've taught me patience not just with the animals but life itself I have adopted two Animals that had both came from bad situations and with the skills I've learned has helped with their transitions to a better life. But Guardian Oak has done so much more from theropedic riding riding lessons and they have an open door for Vets they are not just a non-profit organization they are family with that being said they have also taught me to never give up even when things get tough and challenges will lay ahead but they are behind you
My daughter had been asking for a horse for a long time and she found Sprinkles on the internet and we went to see her and my daughter fell in love. Every time we would go see Sprinkles my heart would melt when Sprinkles and Haylee would see each other. You could see the love in their eyes. Not only did we adopt Sprinkles but we also adopted Jetta too.
Gave me a chance when no one else would. Real people that accualy care about the comunity and the animals
This place is awesome for all ages. There are many opportunities to help them with time, money or items they are needing.
I am amazed at the dedication and love these people have for these animals. What a wonderful place. Their community is lucky to have Guardian Oaks. They encourage community involvement. We need more rescue like this that put their heart and soul for a worthy cause.
What an amazing organization to have in this area! GO has helped so many animals; and, two of those amazing animals have landed safely with us. RD, a white mammoth Donkey, immediately fit in with the rest of our herd; and, Lefty Louie, an injured homeless young cat who has received the surgery that he needed and is now safe. Who knows what would have happened to these two sweet animals if it wasn't for GO. I know these animals are so grateful to be given a chance; not to mention how grateful we are to be given the chance to meet and fall in love with these two. Since then we have tried to become involved in ensuring that this organization continues to grow so that more of these amazing animals can be safe and healthy.
