I’m not sure where to begin…last year my husband was looking for an adoptable OTTB…he was on the internet and found Guardian Hearts Equine Defenders. From the moment he was in contact with Lucy..we knew this was the place to go! My husband sent out the paperwork along with pics of our farm and barn…he then saw another horse a beautiful Tennessee Walking and we drove down a couple weeks later and picked up the beautiful creatures and it has been a match made in heaven ever since! Lucy was fantastic and we have talked several times over the past year…sometimes just to say hello, send pics or if we had any questions! She is very knowledgeable, passionate and is such a wonderful caregiver to these horses! We love our horses ❤️ And would recommend anyone who is looking to adopt! C and T Freeland

Guardian Hearts is just a wonderful place to be, moving to NC I wanted to find a place I could volunteer and spend time with horses. I called and was met with enthusiasm and lots of great information. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have had, the horses (AKA the Hearts) are so special and are a testament to horses' ability to rebound from abuse and neglect to trust and love humans again.

Lucy has been like my Mr. Miyagi. She has taught me so much about caring for and interacting with the horses, understanding their health concerns and warning signs for possible problems. It has been a huge confidence builder for me and being on the farm and in service to the horses has been like therapy for me.

This rescue is one of the most conscientious organizations I have heard of both in the way the animals are treated and the way adoptions and fosters work. If you are looking to adopt or foster a horse this is absolutely the place to come and if you are looking to volunteer you will be hard pressed to find a more fulfilling way to spend your time.

First and most important, the horse comes first. Whether they are fostered, at the actual rescue, or finding their forever home, the news of the individual horse are the most important consideration.

Guardian Hearts have been an inspiration for me during this pandemic. Most giving, hopefull group i have ever known. They have sacrificed their time, love, and caring to save and rehabilitate horses who were abandoned, forgotten and would have been killed. Those same horses have given hope to so many both young and older. Please recognize their efforts so they can continue their goals and missions. Thank you Cindy Beverly

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this rescue! If I could give them 10 stars, I would! We adopted our horse Blue from Guardian Hearts Equine Defenders and it was such a positive experience. When we visited the property, we were so impressed at how beautiful it was and how incredible the volunteers were. They spent a lot of time with us, answered all our questions, took us on a tour, and never made us feel rushed. This rescue provides exceptional care to all of the horses, it's very clear how passionate everyone is about saving horses and placing them in their forever homes! I have stayed in touch with Lucy, the adoption coordinator ever since we adopted Blue a little over a year ago. I like to share pictures and videos with her so she can see how well he is doing. Lucy is genuinely happy to receive those and always responds back quickly. If you are in the market for a horse, do yourself a favor and visit Guardian Hearts Equine Defenders, you won't be sorry!

The staff are wonderful, loving people who truly care about what they do. They work 24/7 one of the hardest jobs… rescuing & placing unwanted horses into loving homes. I had adopted a beautiful Arabian Mare whom I love with all my heart. If it wasn’t for these people, she would had been sold for slaughter. My mare is also registered with AHA & she is very well bred. Sired by a National Champion & she has some of the best bloodlines in the world. Huckleberry Bey+++ on top with 6 lines to *Bask++, & the bonus of *Serifix WOW!
I have Cerebral Palsy & this mare is so light and easy to ride. A true Arabian disposition & if she were in Arabia she would had been found in a tent with her human family.
It saddens me to know what she and other horses endure in these auctions, kill pens & the majority cross the borders. My mare is one of the lucky ones. She has me for the rest of her days.
Thanks to the wonderful loving staff of Guardian Hearts♥️ I am blessed with the horse of my dreams. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I love horses. I wanted to take lessons, but I didn’t really want to compete in jumping competitions. I just wanted a horse to love on.Then I found out about Guardian hearts. My nana messaged the Facebook page and asked how old one had to be to be able to volunteer, since I am only 11 years old. We figured I wouldn’t be able to since most of the places we checked you had to be 13 or older. We were surprised to hear that they accepted volunteers from as young as eight years old, as long as they had a parent with them. I was so excited to learn all about these horses. I started off working with Baby, a 21 year old Medicine Hat paint mare. She was the tallest horse I had ever seen. After a couple of weeks of working with her, I started working with new horses. The horse I worked with mostly was Hudson, a 19 year old flea bitten Arabian gelding. He was so amazingly sweet. He is definitely one of my favorites. Over the summer, I have met and worked with different horses, watched some of them go to new homes, and learned so many things along the way. Thank you Ms Lucy, for all you’ve taught me over the summer. Thank you to Mom and Dad for supporting me. And especially thank you Hudson, and Katie. Your both definitely someone besides my parents that I can tell everything to. Love you guys so much!

This non-profit works tirelessly to rescue, rehab and adopt equines of all types so that they can live comfortable, happy and productive lives. Their animals are treated like family until they find their heart families. I love the success stories and the volunteers who make it possible.
