Mission: The State of Florida Guardian ad Litem Program advocates for the best interests of children who are alleged to be abused, neglected, or abandoned and who are involved in court proceedings. Best interests include preservation of the child's physical safety and emotional well-being; permanent placement in a stable and nurturing home environment that fosters the child's healthy growth and development; and protection from further harm during the child's involvement in the court system.
Target demographics: The 19th Guardian ad Litem is looking for volunteers that are committed to safeguarding children and want to make a real different in a child's life. Volunteers must be 21 +, have a flexible schedule, have reliable transportation, and a valid driver's license. With a wide range of ethnic diversity among our children, the 19th Guardian ad Litem is looking for a wide range of ethnic diversity among its volunteers.
Direct beneficiaries per year: Over 900 children throughout a four county area
Geographic areas served: Saint Lucie, Martin, Okeechobee and Indian River Counties
Programs: The 19th Guardian ad Litem advocates for children in our community and are given a power "voice" through our Certified Child Advocate Volunteers making them less likely to languish in the courts and more likely to succeed in life. That 19th Guardian ad Litem Ambassadorship Program allows individuals and organizations to contribute to the fight to save our children by spreading the 'I am for the child' word and allowing for presentation possibilities to increase awareness. The 19th Guardian ad Litem Open House allows folks to come in and see the organization and get a first-hand experience of what child advocacy is all about.
