GSD Rescue is excellent to work with. Amber is extremely knowledgable about the dogs that she saves and she is patient and kind to all of them. She takes on dogs that maybe hard to place with families but works tirelessly to get them their forever homes. She discloses all information on each dog and takes her time to get to know as much as possible about each rescue she has in her care. She is open, honest and upfront with all information to try to give her rescues the absolute best chance at a forever home. We have adopted 2 of Ambers GSD rescues and are extremely grateful for them and thank Amber for saving this noble breed.
Our family became involved with the GSD Rescue Indy over 5 years ago when we adopted 2 shepherds - 1 older male and 1 younger female. Amber was very thorough in preparing us for what adopting a rescue shepherd entails - it was very beneficial even though we had been German Shepherd owners for decades. There are differences when you are adopting a rescue and her guidance was invaluable. Amber does an excellent job of evaluating the temperaments of the dogs she rescues and communicating that to prospective owners - it's a godsend!
We have stayed in contact with GSD Rescue Indy ever since adopting our 2 and encourage anyone who is interested in adopting a GSD Rescue dog to utilize Amber and the GSD Rescue Indy to help give other German Shepherds a loving home.
The work Amber does with the shepherds is remarkable. This amazing woman dedicates her life to saving and rehoming as many German Shepherds as she can. She has even come across many that are not able to be adopted which stay at the sanctuary with her for the remainder of their lives. She has been bitten and does not give up on these animals. She is a true savior to the breed, and goes above and beyond for them.
I have been lucky enough to adopt 3 Shepherds from the rescue. The first was Rocky. I did not plan on adopting a 7 year old pup, but I agreed to foster him for a few days. Needless to say, I failed at fostering! The second was Max who was about 6 at the time. Finally, I agreed to foster another pup who had a broken pelvis. This was last year, and I failed again at fostering. Maya is about two years old right now, and I have had to retrain myself in order to deal with a puppy. However, it is worth it. I have also been lucky enough to do some volunteer work at the rescue over the past 8 years. This gives me some pretty good insight on how the rescue is run. You will never find a more dedicated person than Amber who owns the rescue. Unfortunately rescues exist because of poor dog owners. The list is endless on their excuses why they can no longer care for a dog. Amber has devoted her life to rescuing these amazing dogs, and I am grateful that I have been lucky enough to adopt 3 beautiful Shepherds from her. Pictured are Maya, Max and Rocky.
We adopted Rommel five years ago. His personality is exactly what Amber said it was. She carefully evaluates each rescue and tries to make sure both dog and adopter are a match. She is tireless in working with and for her shepherds.
I have watched this woman and her journey with these Shepherds for about a year. I can’t believe the amount of hard work she puts in, and she does it for her dogs. It’s truly beautiful to see. She has a deep passion for the breed and it shows greatly. I cannot wait until we meet her adoption requirements in the future so that we can support her, and more importantly support the Shepherds.
I watch this rescue everyday on my facebook page and I love the way she puts her whole heart and soul into these beautiful German Shepherds I myself have one and Have been raised with them. I am very pleased with this rescue, I will get one from her when im ready that is for sure, because my girl is 2 and she needs a friend. when the right one comes up I plan to get one from here.
3 years ago I didn’t know there was GSD rescue in Indianapolis. I went to an Adoption day and adopted my first GSD. I witnessed the dedication ,hard work and sacrifice Amber showed caring for the GSD’S. I ended up volunteering helping with some maintenance items around the Rescues building. I also ended up adopting 4 more German Shepards THANKS to Amber for rescuing them. It’s scary to think what might of happened to them without Ambers intervention giving hope to the GSD’S someone else gave up on.
We adopted a pup from GSD Rescue Indy almost 10 years ago. We have kept in contact with Amber all these years and have followed her on the journey of providing the best life possible for these magnificent creatures. Her love and dedication to these animals does not go unnoticed as her “tribe” continues to help in every way possible. I truly believe the best times are just around the corner for the rescue! Our pack will continue to help and we will continue to encourage friends and family to support the rescue. Thank you Amber for making such a difference and caring so deeply for these pups!
I’m from the neighboring state of Michigan. Also have owned GSD’s for 46+ years. Connected to several GSD pages and several rescues on FB. I can say I’ve not seen anyone SO devoted to our precious GSD’s. She shares their stories so beautifully in good and bad. She totally understands them inside and out. Amber gives ALL she’s got for their well-being. What’s not to LOVE. THANKS
My dad (Dennis) has 5 of the GSDs from this rescue and I love every single one of them. They all have their own personalities. Amber does the best she can for these dogs and the rescue and I know my dad helps as much as he can with her and the GSDs.
I am not an adopter (yet) but have followed GSD Indy for years and am absolutely amazed at the work Amber does for the dogs! So many lives saved! She never gives up and works tirelessly to provide for the rescue/sanctuary without a break!
I was heart broken by the loss of my German Shepherd, so I looked into the GermanShepherdRescueindy to adopt another dog. Amber Marks, the person in charge, was wonderful in assisting me to get another Shepherd from her facility. She is so committed to what she does and is truly a blessing to the German Shepherds she takes in to help. This organization is a blessing to the German Shepherds and to committed owners who love this breed and want the dogs to be given a chance by giving them the right home that will love and appreciate them.
