Groundswell International (GSI) is a nonprofit organization which works in an international capacity to further sustainable farming practices to address chronic undernourishment, food dependency and poverty in the Global South. The GSI team approaches their work methodically, which includes not only sustainable farming and environmentally compatible programs; but also certain ancillary activities, like strengthening local marketplaces, addressing climate change resilience and advocating for women's rights. One of the amazing outcomes of Groundswell's work is the transformation of 375,000 people lives. And, with a 2022 goal to double the number of lives to 750,000 - - Groundswell is making a difference! I often wonder how this team is able to influence and impact so many. Further, I'm equally moved by their commitment and determination. I encourage you take a moment and explore Groundswell. And if you are inspired and moved, as I am, sign up for the newsletter, get involved and offer support!

Just returned from visiting GI projects in Haiti. Awe-inspiring meeting and listening to the farmers of this impoverished country talk about the future and their new found capacity to grow their crops as well as themselves.

Many of the people at GSI have YEARS of experience working with people to bring sustainable agriculture and helping them spread the word to their neighbors. They treat everyone, donors and recipients of their help, with respect and care. It has been my honor and my pleasure to introduce GSI to my friends and family.

We became aware of Groundswell a few years ago and have supported their progress and achievements ever since. Three things were immediately apparent to us that set this grassroots organization apart from many others. First, the depth of meaningful field experience the founding group members brought to the projects. Second, the dedication and commitment to create change from the bottom up in the areas they have targeted. And third, as evidence of this commitment, the efficient use of donor dollars which greatly increases the impact of their modest budget. All things we look for and applaud when deciding where our donor dollars should go!

Groundswell International is a grassroots organization that works with local partners to facilitate change in small farm families lives. They work both with established groups who understand local realities and with staff and supporters who have decades of international development experience. With that combination they are really making a difference in countries that need practical, grounded assistance using approaches that work! I am a Groundswell supporter because I believe in the approach and the people who are dedicated to making that change happen!

In the past I worked with several of the GSI leaders. I am honored to be able to continue to participate in this important work as a donor. I know that my contributions are put to good use to support and strengthen communities.

I'm so impressed with Groundswell International, the environment in the office is relaxed and organized but make no mistake there is lots going on both in the admin office and in the field. After so many years of international development work, the field staff and administration all know how to make the most of their time and every cent that it donated. The staff are smart and savvy and a real pleasure to work with but the real pay-out is the amazing field work that volunteering with them supports. The best 10 hours I spend every week.

Almost 10 years ago I worked with a major, international development organization. I had the opportunity to meet and learn from some development experts who were leading a smaller and very effective development effort. The training was impressive. It is always exciting to see intelligent people apply their knowledge in a meaningful way to help others. I was excited then, and I remain excited today about the development of community-based agro-economic systems that are sustainable and ecologically sound.

The experts I met a decade ago went on to found Groundswell International. Solid knowledge, relevant experience, respect for individuals and communities, and hard honest work are instilled in Groundswell through staff and volunteer leadership. This is an organization to watch, to support and to be proud of.

I've known the current leadership of GSI in the US and also most of its partner organizations around the world for more than 15 years, and I'm extremely impressed with their commitment and dedication to the work they do in each country. I've also worked with GSI as a volunteer since its inception and this has allowed me to take an in-depth look inside the organization, and to confirm that my donations are being put to good use.

I learned about Groundswell International a few years ago when the company I worked for at the time was tasked with creating their website. Through working closely with the team in Asheville, I learned how Groundswell works directly with existing organizations in developing countries to improve soil and agricultural conditions as well as health conditions in those communities. Instead of throwing money or donated goods at these problems, Groundswell uses the "teach a (wo)man to fish" method, which is so much more valuable. As a continuing donor, I also appreciate the transparency about how they do spend their funds. I believe Groundswell truly has its heart in the right place, and they have the knowledge and network in place to really make a difference in people's lives and the life our planet.

I have watched Groundswell International since its inception and happily support this remarkable work in poor villages throughout the world. They know that sustainable improvement in peoples' lives requires local cooperatives to support small businesses, improved farming through low-tech, locally generated practices, local control of the seed stock, and education in nutrition and family planning. This group represents the most effective and most respectful approach to international development on the planet today. Susan J. Hakel, M.D., Oklahoma City OK, USA

Early this Fall (2014), I began working with the Groundswell International office in Asheville, North Carolina as a Communications Volunteer. In the few short weeks of my involvement with this non-profit, I have learned so much about the importance of helping small-scale farmers thrive in our global food economy. What I love about Groundswell is that it teams up with local organizations who are present and connected with the people they are serving. It is a partnership that is focused on helping individuals and their communities with resources, training and networks so that they and their families can be supported. On a personal note, I love my writing and creative assignments towards getting the word out about Groundswell International on social media. Do check out the Groundswell website and perhaps, you too will receive fulfillment volunteering your time, financial resources and creative ideas to help this organization and through it the people on the ground around the world, not only survive but thrive. Thank you.

I have known the leadership both here in the US as well as on the ground around the world for more than 25 years. Our work is planted firmly in our commitment to ensuring that rural communities have adequate healthy food. We will encourage and facilitate improvements in existing water and sanitation facilities and hygienic behavior leading to a reduction in related diseases. Our consistent and purposeful monitoring and evaluation will enable the communities to learn from their own challenges around the globe that is self perpetuating and not externally driven. I am excited by the rapid growth of community farmers and their families communicating with others in other countries and other planets. We need not be isolated anymore. It truly is a groundswell of sustainable community change.
