Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals

Mission: The GREY2K USA Education Fund is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization dedicated to helping greyhounds. We work to sponsor the release of greyhounds from closing dog tracks and also to educate the public about the history and lives of greyhounds, from their origins as royal companions to their exploitation today at commercial racetracks. Our mission is to spread the word about these gentle dogs and promote adoption efforts worldwide.

Results: The GREY2K USA Education Fund has conducted groundbreaking research into the dog racing industry. This research has helped close 30 dog tracks in the US and helped to prevent the expansion of dog racing to countries such as Jamaica, the Philippines and South Africa. Our work has been reported by mainstream news organizations all over the world. We directly support greyhound adoption groups and promote adoption generally through the international rescue page on our web site.

Target demographics: to help end dog racing and save ex-racers.

Direct beneficiaries per year: in 2018, we rescued over 500 greyhounds from China

Geographic areas served: The GREY2K USA Education Fund works to across the globe

Programs: We sponsor the release of greyhounds from closing dog tracks through our "Second Chance for Greyhounds" Fund. We also offer free presentations on adoption and advocacy to schools through our signature Greyhounds in the Classroom and Greyhounds in the Library programs, and perform ongoing research into the dog racing industry to promote an understanding of the cruelty of dog racing. Participating children are given free age-appropriate materials including a coloring book for younger kids, a hardcover book for older kids to read, "Save the Greyhounds" wristbands, adoption posters to hang, greyhound magnets and more.

As the owner of a retired racing Greyhound, I'm deeply disappointed by the cruel agenda of this organization. Greyhounds love nothing more than running and chasing, and to have that passion be their job is the best life ever! The racing Greyhounds are loved and pampered by their owners and trainers!!! And when they retire, the REAL Greyhound-lovers make sure that these majestic creatures are adopted by loving homes (like me and friends of mine). I DO NOT and WILL NOT support Grey2K!!!

Grey2k doesn't care one bit about they greyhounds. Payroll, travel and lobbying make up 90% of their expenses according to their tax returns and there are only have 6 full-time employees. They have been known to manipulate data, steal photos without permission and doctor them up. To top things off they opposed a bill in the Florida legislature a few years ago that would've made for stricter safety standards in the greyhound racing industry. They are a smart bunch of people that should be using their brains for something other than scamming people out of their money.

This fake "review" is part of an organized campaign by the dog racing industry to post negative comments here. It has no basis in fact whatsoever. For example, the claim that we opposed a Florida bill to impose stricter safety standards in the racing industry is a flat-out lie.

Grey2k is the biggest scam perpetrated on the greyhound industry ... they have made millions exploiting the greyhounds for donations and the greyhounds have not seen one pretty penny of it .. if you want to help greyhounds please go to you local greyhound adoption group in your state or you can look up nga greyhounds approved adoption groups the true greyhound advocates are the adoption groups that are the back none of the industry ... you will never find a greyhound in a shelter because greyhounds have a 98% adoption rate Grey2k k I have attached a pie chart ... all they do is pay their own salaries with the money they scam out of people

We wholeheartedly support this organization and salute the heroic and effective efforts--both internationally and at the local level--of their staff and volunteers to educate people everywhere about the lives of racing greyhounds and what can be done to end their exploitation and help them find the safe and loving homes that they deserve. Additionally, we appreciate their willingness to find the time to connect on a personal level with donors and supporters. Well done!!

I nominate GREY2K USA Education Fund for its its tireless work that is playing a pivotal part in raising public awareness about the lives of greyhounds that are used for profit in the business known as greyhound racing. This education is key, and has resulted in the public showing its agreement with this non-profit's principles. GREY2K USA Education Fund is also to be commended for teaching children the life lesson, in an age-appropriate manner, that animals are to be respected, and that a loving, nurturing relationship we create with our companion animals is something to cherish and be proud of.

I am grateful for GREY2K USA Worldwide for fighting endlessly to save greyhounds around the world, and in particular for raising awareness of the plight of the Macau Canidrome greyhounds, a track that killed roughly 18,000 greyhounds over 5 decades for being too slow, sick or injured. Little did I know that this campaign would forever change my life.

When international pressure finally forced the Canidrome to shut down on July 21st 2018 leaving 532 abandoned greyhounds behind, my heart led me there to help. A brave seven year battle to close the track led by the now legendary Albano Martins of Anima Macau to whom these dogs owe their lives, alongside partners GREY2K USA Worldwide and the Italian association Pet Levrieri, had been won against all odds.

The next daunting task lay ahead: to air lift the survivors to safety and into loving homes.

GREY2K asked for my help in photographing Brooklyn for their newsletter, the poster child for the Save the Macau Greyhounds campaign, who had long been thought to be dead. Pet Levrieri asked me to character assess 50 of the greyhounds and photograph 76 of the dogs heading to Europe and the UK for their bios.

I quickly realized that while everyone thought these dogs were now safe, they were not safe at all. Their only chance of survival was to get them all out as quickly as possible. The deadline to accomplish this enormous task had originally been September of 2019. It was shortened by the government to March 2019.

For many shifts during my 14 days there, I was the only volunteer and felt completely alone and distraught. I burst into tears so many times witnessing what these gentle souls had to endure. Dark, wet, concrete cells with decrepit rusty, sharp bars. Greyhounds lying on the cement floor with open wounds from lack of soft bedding and some without any bed at all. Greyhounds very underweight, with rotting teeth, some with mouths full of blood. Their only stimulation other than 2 meals and 2 short walks a day was chewing on their metal bars or scratching on the wall. Greyhounds with scars, ragged coats and red raw feet as their cells and the pavement for their walks were never dry. There were many old ones, who had somehow survived this living hell. And the adorable young ones still full of life who were born in their cells. Greyhounds being rough handled, hit on their walks and dragged along while trying to pee. A worker who thought I was too soft demonstrating how to grab one out of her cell, as if she were some sort of wild beast.

What I witnessed at the Canidrome will haunt me for the rest of my life. But I will be forever deeply touched by the light of those gentle greyhounds who were the kindest creatures, and their unconditional love. So starved for affection and a kind word, yet showering me with more love than I could ever return. So willing to forgive, despite the heavy hand of abuse they had suffered their whole lives. So resilient and ready to move on, as shown by all of the stories and photos shared by the families who have given them a forever home.

I will forever be grateful for GREY2K for creating awareness around the world of this horrific track, and for sharing my photos, allowing people to see inside this very dark and troubling place. And I am grateful for the global community too, so many who joined together in one powerful voice, and who never gave up to save these precious souls.

For years this organization has helped stop the torture of racing greyhounds by getting horrid racetracks closed, state by state. They have also made great efforts to save these beautiful, gentle animals from being brutally killed by arranging for their rescue. Through this organization I became educated over the years about the underbelly of people and organizations that race these dogs. GREY2K USA has made and continues to make a difference nationally and around the world.

One thing that made a huge difference in defeating greyhound racing in Florida was education. Once the voters found out the truth about the cruelty and exploitation of dog racing they wanted no part of it. The Grey2K Education Fund played a crucial and effective role in that part of the battle. I believe without their commitment and expertise greyhounds would still be suffering in Florida.

I have visited the offices of Grey2kusa and found them welcoming to my questions about their cause. They provided lots of hard evidence that supported their contentions about the abuse racing dogs receive. I also looked them up on Guide Star which had information about how funds contributed are used. Grey2k had a low percent of administrative costs, most money going to their advocacy work. That is very good, to my mind. I think the leadership of the charity is hard-working and very effective in their legislative work to ban dog racing in the US. I would recommend this charity to any dog lover or animal advocate.

GREY2K USA

With public support GREY2K USA works towards a vision of a world in which greyhound racing is banned and greyhound dogs are cherished and treated with compassion. It plays a key advocacy and educational role to ensure a better future for these intelligent and loving dogs.

GREY2K leads the charge into a more humane future for greyhounds, briefing legislators and the media on the actuality of the lives lived by racing of greyhounds. Working with local groups, communities and experts GREY2KUSA has secured modern laws and institutions that have reversed some of the damage done to greyhounds and to protect them in the future. GREY2KUDSA is an evolving organization. As someone who lives in Australia I can say unequivocally the GREY2K USA WORLWIDE reaches out to connect with people far and wide.

The lived lives of greyhounds in the racing industry is far removed from the public gaze. Shrouded in secrecy not least as a result of the active use of deceptive practices by the industry, public knowledge of the nature of the greyhound and their fate within the closed world of racing is at best superficial and at worse utterly distorted. The GREY2K USA Education Fund has been and is fundamental to a more complete, humane and accurate public understanding of the cruelty of dog racing, the nature of these dogs and what their lives are like within the industry and what their lives could be like when rescued and adopted by caring individuals and families. Not only a five star, but an absolutely essential service.
