Mission: The green sports alliance leverage the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where we live and play. We do so by inspiring sports leagues, teams, venues, their partners and millions of fans to embrace renewable energy, healthy food, recycling, species preservation, water efficiency, safer chemicals and other environmentally preferable practices.
Programs: We offered many programs to members throughout 2014, including 12 webinars and our first series of workshops. We announced new leadership at the green sports alliance with dr. Allen hershkowitz joining as president, and justin zeulner coming on as chief operating officer. The alliance also welcomed two new board members: jackie ventura, sustainability & operations coordinator at the miami heat group and dave newport, director of the environmental center at university of colorado boulder. Other notable coverage in 2014 included articles in sportsbusiness journal, forbes and the wall street journal. Of course, without the hard work and dedication of our members, the green sports movement would not have come as far as it has today. The alliance started 2014 with 215 total members, and we end the year with 267 members from 20 different leagues and 13 countries.
