Programs: Instructional content, activities, and whole school professional development and teacher mentoring. Daily afterschool program targeting most at risk and academically delayed students. Food for others farm in the bronx provides training and summer youth employment growing vegetables. College and career health, wellness, and culinary camp which provides intense six week professional camp experience. Pre-eminent and exemplar school garden to school cafe program.
The Green Bronx Machine is helping children to unlock their potential and expand their minds to become proactive thought-leaders inspired to change the environment that they live in, to become one where growth and opportunity are absolutely possible! These young minds are fascinated by the world of science through agriculture. By teaching children how to grow their own vegatables, it creates excitement around eating healthy along with the tenets of patience, love, care and appreciation for nature. Children are more actively engaged in learning activities that allow them to be hands-on. It has completely transformed the culture that once existed in CS 55. Children are scoring higher on standardized exams as a result of this innovative curriculum. School attendance rates have gone up. Bullying has decreased. The rate of obesity is declining. To the Green Bronx Machine, children are like seeds that require a solid foundation, support, nourishment, cultivation and love in order to grow into healthy students and productive residents of their communities.
