Mission: The mission of Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is to end child abuse and neglect and create strong, healthy families.
Target demographics: We serve children ages birth to 6 years old that live in Hennepin County.
Programs: Overview of Program Services Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery is a state licensed, non-profit organization, which operates at 4544 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis. GMCN services are immediate, safe, and free of charge for families living in Hennepin County. The Nursery offers a variety of services to families living in Hennepin County, which include the following: Residential Child Care – The Nursery provides confidential, parent initiated, short-term shelter for children newborn through age six. Children can stay at the Nursery for up to 72-hours while their parent(s) work to elevate their crisis. Family Advocacy – A staff of well trained Family Advocates will assess each family situation, offer short-term crisis counseling and support the family in developing a plan of action. The Family Advocate works with the parent/guardian to identify community resources that can help the parent alleviate the current crisis. Parent Education – GMCN offers parent education support groups for parents. Child care is provided during the meetings. Community Outreach – Family Advocates share information about Nursery services and child care placement in Hennepin County. Hennepin County Placements – The Nursery collaborates with Hennepin County in preventing child abuse and neglect. Two beds are reserved for up to 72-hours use for families in crisis, when First Response of Hennepin County deems voluntary placement would be beneficial to the family situation. 4th Day Program – The 4th Day Program is a voluntary home visiting program offered by the Greater Minneapolis Crisis Nursery (“GMCN”) that focuses on family stability and self-sufficiency through goal setting, support and targeted referrals to community resources. Families generally are referred to the 4th Day Program by a GMCN Family Advocate. Typically, the 4th Day Program Staff works with participating parents/guardians for a period of 12 – 18 months, depending on the needs of Participant and GMCN’s ability to fulfill those needs as noted below.
