The GHHS staff are truly AWESOME. The work and dedication to the animals and community are overwhelming amazing. I volunteer there and see the work that the staff put in each and every day. All the animals are well loved and cared for. Whether you adopt an animal from them or volunteer your time, you will always see friendly and caring staff ready to help you.
I have been with GHHS since 2018 as a front desk volunteer, foster, and transporter. They are hands down the most important animal resource in the north part of the state. Being a no-kill shelter in the underserved South, I help field desperate calls for help everywhere from just down the street to 6 hours away. The staff and volunteers do anything in their power to save & adopt out animals and help owners in need. They also serve way more than just dogs and cats, rescuing pocket pets like rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, rats, & more, as well as farm animals such as pigs and ducks. Once a week, I drive an hour each way to volunteer alongside people I am grateful to call friends.
Everyone I have worked with at the GHHS is kind and helpful no matter how busy it is (which it always is!). They always offer many thanks which goes a long way to volunteers that take time out of their day to do a range of tasks from glamorous to not so glamorous. I love the variety of volunteer opportunities from assisting with exciting events to helping with cleaning tasks like filling the pools for the pups to take a swim. It has been a great experience for me to meet people in my new community.
