GDHS has dedicated volunteers who have helped many animals find their forever homes. Their fundraisers are a lot of fun, and they need your support to reduce the suffering of animals through education, rescue, and transport from other states. Sloan K.
Cocoa and Heidi Sue came to live with us a year ago. GDHS was so helpful every step of the way and still check in from time to time. We are so very grateful to this organization for their kindness, care, and support in finding our perfect pets!

Let Live and Love animals
This non-profit has very dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers who give up so much of their own time to help animals and their community. They answer phone calls and emails as well as make sure the dogs and cats in their care get the best foster and adopter match. Having no physical shelter brings its own set of challenges. We have adopted two cats and four dogs from them, and we have just loved the service, the honesty, and, of course, all of our fur kids, too.
I am a volunteer of the Greater Derry Humane Society. The all volunteer organization is made up of dedicated and animal loving people who help animals to find loving and caring homes. All donations are used for the medical and rehoming expenses of the rescued animals.

We adopted our Shakey from Greater Derry Humane Society in November 2018. He was a local surrender who desperately needed a rescue to give him a chance. The wonderful and caring volunteers of GDHS found him the best foster, which led to us adopting him a few weeks later. We can’t imagine our lives without Shakey. Thank you GDHS for the amazing work you do!!
Greater Derry is a small group of very dedicated and passionate individuals who will go above and beyond to save lives whether local or out of State.
Operating with limited funds , location and open fosters they have changed the lives of hundreds pets and people.
GDHS is a wonderful organization, made up of dedicated volunteers. All four of our dogs, two of our cats, our guinea pig, and one of our parakeets came from GDHS.
Yoko came to GDHS from Derry Animal Control after being tossed out of a moving vehicle. She was bloody, matted and covered in feces. She suffered from Cushing's and then later from Addisons Disease. She was a feisty biter who trusted no one. She soon learned to love again, care again, and to have fun once again. After months of care, she trusted a very small circle of our family. She had people interested in adopting her, but her attitude said she wasn't going anywhere. We fostered her for over two years before adopting. She had so many ailments, the vet suggested she be put to sleep, but GDHS would not hear of it. After each new crisis, she recovered fully and again enjoyed her life with her family of Willow the hound, and Penny, the terrier. All three dogs came from Greater Derry Humane Society. Finally, x-rays showed a very large and fast growing tumor growing around her stomach. Over the next 2 years she fought a battle of life and death several times and always won. She enjoyed life and it was easy to see what a family dog she became. By then she clung to me as her go-to-buddy. Sadly, on Oct. 20, 2018 her fight ended when she sighed her last breath, closed her eyes and her body slept in peace. Thank you to GDHS for treating her with dignity and respect until the end.
She taught me to never
give up, to persevere,
to have determination and courage,
and to learn and always be learning.
I taught her to like and to love.
Letting Yoko go but
Never letting go of Yoko.

This organization does wonders on a shoestring budget. They get funding from the USHumane society and subsist wholly on fundraising and donations. All proceeds go directly to the animals in their care. Food vet care grooming and fostering. This is a wonderful organization
I adopted my Sonny last year. I was originally supposed to foster another cat, but she was adopted. Pam contacted me a few weeks later about Sonny and right away I was attached. he had a hard first 5 years , but he is the sweetest, most cuddly cat I have ever had. I was so happy about the adoption, I began volunteering at events and joined the fundraising committee. My goal is to get back into it once my medical issues are resolved. GDHS is a great place to foster and adopt and I will definitely continue to promote them and adopt from them in the future.
Dedicated and Compassionate Team committed to being The Voice for Animals in need!!! They are absolutely Pawsome!!! Thank you!
A few years back we adopted our dog from GDHS. We had been hunting for months for the perfect small senior dog and because we had children many rescues dismissed us immediately without listening. GDHS listened and gave us a chance to meet a potential dog, and see how our children interacted with him.
We adopted that dog a few weeks later and he has been a perfect fit for our household.
Dog adoption can feel like an overwhelming process but I never felt their application, house review or meeting of dogs was ever excessively invasive. It was enough so that they knew the dog was going to a good home and we knew they were not hiding any negative dog traits.
