I have always been interested in parrots and other companion birds. I discovered the Greater Chicago Caged Bird Society has a shelter for companion birds to find a new forever home. I stopped by and observed the care and love the birds receive. They take care of all the birds needs including all vet care. They are always looking for volunteers to help clean and feed birds also to have one on one time with them.

I adopted a naked Macaw that has been cared for at the shelter for 5 yrs.
She is loving and wonderful but also opinionated. The wonderful people at GCCBS took care of her for 5 yrs until I could adopt her from the no kill shelter. Please visit and help care for out feathered friends.

Great nonprofit shelter for homeless and abandoned pet birds. They do amazing work giving these birds a temporary home while finding adopters to become their forever homes. Entirely volunteer run so you know 100% of your donations go to the birds. Adoption process can take a little longer than expected due to the shelter being all volunteers, but completely understandable. Volunteering is very rewarding as you get to interact with these birds and watch as they find their forever homes.

With just a handful of dedicated volunteer staff, this organization provides shelter and safety for pet birds who have no place else to go. We provide daily care, 365 days a year, to all types of birds, from a tiny finch to large macaws. We also attend to the medical needs of the elderly and handicap birds to improve quality of life. These are the FORGOTTEN Pets...Dog and Cat rescues get much attention, while every year, hundreds of birds pass through this shelter and are placed in qualified, screened home, or are kept safe until a home can be found. We have no funding other than minimal public donations.
We are one of only a few reputable rescues for birds in the Chicago-land area.

I have been with this bird rescue for many years. It is one of the best in Chicago area. We have very dedicated, hard working volunteers. We put the care of our birds first and foremost. We find loving homes for birds that have been relinquished to our care. Our birds are cared for by an avian veterinarian on a regular basis. We treat all of our birds the same, whether a finch or a macaw. We provide them with loving care, adequate housing, and a well balanced diet. We are 100% volunteer based and work solely on donations. Thank you.
