Mission: The mission of the gray house is to help its neighbors facing hardships to meet their immediate and transitional needs by providing food, clothing, and educational services in a safe, positive environment in the north end of springfield.
Programs: Adult education programthis program offers english for speakers of other languages, basic skills (reading, writing, and math) tutoring, and beginner english conversation classes. The program has grown to include literacy development, financial literacy and citizenship classes. There were apporximately 150 adult learners enrolled in the program during the fiscal year.
kids' club after school and summer programthis program helps children between the ages of 7 and 14 who live in poverty. Every monday through thursday afternoon, children come to the gray house to get help with their homework, participate in healthy, creative activities. Our four week summer program welcomes children between the ages of 7 and 14 from the neighborhood who receive breakfast, lunch and snacks, participate in cooperative games which teach team building and encourage self-esteem and go on field trips that are fun as well as educational. During the fiscal year 29 children benefited from these programs.
emergency food pantry and clothing distributionthe food pantry provides food to people in need. The program provided food to 3,861 households with a total of 10,098 members during the fiscal year. The gray house provides emergency hats, gloves, scarves & coats and some hygiene items when available to men, women and children in need.
