Mission: Grassroots Leadership works for a more just society where prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization are things of the past. One day, we envision a safe and healthy city, state and world where people have agency over their lives, and their lives are not interrupted by prison profiteering, mass incarceration, deportation, and criminalization.

Programs: Participatory Defense is a community organizing model for people facing charges, their families, and communities to impact the outcome of cases and transform the landscape of power in the court system. Part of the national PD network leading the movement to empower families to advocate for their loved ones who have been entangled in the criminal legal system. Texas Advocates for Justice uses personal stories and direct experience with incarceration to build power and lead campaigns to transform the criminal legal system and build safe and healthy communities. Mujeres Luchadoras is a community-building organization comprised of women released from T. Don Hutto and surrounding immigration jails. Mujeres Luchadoras members have directly experienced the harm of being detained and use their experience to advocate for their own asylum cases and fight to release the people still detained at immigration detention centers across central texas ICE Fuera De Austin is a community group made up of immigrants, many of whom are undocumented, who fight to keep families who live under the threat of deportation together. We work at the intersection of immigration and the criminal justice system. We believe no one should be deported, and the only fight that can be won is the one made in the community.
