WARNING: DO NOT go to the Gospel Rescue Mission for their housing program. DO NOT bring a loved one there. DO NOT recommend GRM to any unhoused person whom you may become concerned about.
I brought my disabled 67 year old brother there in hopes they could help him. They required that he save 85% of his income for the security deposit and first and last month's rent. In addition, I just found out that a person may stay at the GRM for their housing program for a maximum of 6 weeks.
There is no way a person on a small fixed income can save that amount in 6 weeks. As a result of having to save 85%, he could not make payments on his vehicle, and he lost it. In a week he will either be out on the street or I will have to take him in again. I don't want to take him in because we don't get along but I don't want him living on the street either so I guess I'll have to sacrifice myself. Again.
I don't know about their other programs (employment, drug/alcohol rehab) but their housing program is very counterproductive. I deeply regret bringing my brother to GRM. He is worse off now than before. Now he doesn't even have a vehicle to sleep in. Beware.
