I recently shopped at the Goodwill in Sioux City Ia on west 4th st. I was paying for my items and was asked if I wanted to round my total up to the nearest dollar for charitable cause. Excuse me??? Is my total purchase of items the goodwill received for free not already going to charity? I do not understand this. How is the goodwill, that gets every single item for free, then sells these items, going to basically ask me to give them more money then what my total price for items i purchased? Something does not seem right with this. Goodwill is getting greedy they keep raising their prices and they try to mark up what they think is name brand. So regular $4.00 article of clothing if namebrand price will jump up tp $10-$15. Purses will jump up to $20-$30. And if you look at them most of them are not authentic namebrands. They are imposters but they do not know the difference so they have a purse they think is namebrand that they are trying to get what the purse origonally cost in the 1st place because it is a fake. I will no longer donate any items to the Goodwill i truly believe all the money that they receive is lining their CEO's pocket not going to charitable causes. And they are receiving alot of federal money to be labeled non profit.

Mission: Goodwill of the great plains serves as an advocate for economic self-sufficiency through employment and education.
Programs: Retail program servicesgoodwill utilizes its twenty-one retail stores to provide on-the-job training to people with disabilities, people with disadvantages and others having a hard time finding employment. Goodwill accepts clothing and other household donated goods from the public and sells these donations in community-based retail stores. Revenue from the sales of these goods goes directly toward supporting and growing critical community-based programs and job placement services.
workforce development program servicesindividuals achieve greater levels of self-sufficiency and economic success through goodwill's workforce development services - such as employment training and education, work experience, employment retention services, and youth-based programs. Goodwill programs strenghten communities and families and promote independence and dignity for people who need it most. Basic workforce development services were provided to 6,738 individuals in 2016. These services are "soft touch" in nature and usually provided without case management. This area of service also includes medicaid waiver programs. Intensive services were provided to 754 individuals in 2016. These services encompass educational and career services with a case manager or direct service worker assigned to each participant with services delivered over an extended period of time. Maintenance and enhancement of skills or independent functioning level, or maintenance of employment is the expected result of programs and services in this category. Placement focused services were provided to 1,104 individuals in 2016. These services have an expected outcome of job placement through job development and direct job placement programs, as well as temporary placement services and pre-placement phases of supported employment services. A case manager or direct service worker is assigned to each individual participating in placement focused programs and services.
community based servicesgoodwill works with local case managers to provide work and other services through the state home and community based services program. Under this program, individuals with intellectual disability, mental illness and brain injuries receive services meant to grow their work and independent living skills while participating fully in the community in which they live. This is done through day service programs and vocational programs, including work opportunities in retail, administrative support, document destruction, and e-commerce.
other areas of significant mission work includes: christmas shoe and mitten parties which served 2,798 underprivileged children in 2016 and were held in 15 locations throughout our territory; 3,104 emergency store vouchers were distributed by our 21 stores to individuals and families to purchase daily necessitites such as wares and clothing through goodwill's voucher assitance program.
