GGWC is doing amazing work in Hampton Roads public schools. I do not know of any girls who have attended a GGWC event and not had a great time. The fact that they're having fun while learning integral skills is just icing on the cake. We need more programs like GGWC (for girls and boys) in our public schools.

Goodgirls Write Code is a wonderful organization and a great resource to teach children the basics of coding, even from a very young age. The just launched a range of program toolkits that can be accessed online and give teachers all the instructional materials, tutorials and practice exercises they need to incorporate a computer science program in their classroom. Goodgirls Write Code really does make learning STEM education fun and easy for those teachers who want to introduce a computer science program, but may not know enough of the basics themselves to teach it on their own.

Thank you Goodgirls Write Code for giving me a way to bring STEM to my classroom!

I have been on the Board of Goodgirls Write Code for 3 years now! It is a great organization offering STEM education to elementary through high school aged girls worldwide. Their computer science programs are offered online to provide easy access to schools as well as provide the teachers with the ability to track their students progress. The material is easy to learn and teach for educators who lack the experience in computer science. Goodgirls Write Code offers these programs to Title 1 schools free of charge. Anyone interested in using their programs can preview the programs and contact Goodgirls Write Code through the Goodgirls Write Code website! I highly recommend this nonprofit organization for all your STEM Education needs!

I have only positive things to say about what Goodgirls Write Code is doing in the Tidewater region. To start, the mission of the organization is one that desperately needs attention in this day and age. Today's kids, especially girls, need computer skills to compete in the 21st century economy. Period. America is going to be left behind unless we dramatically increase kids' interest in computer-related skills beyond their ability to post selfies to social media. The brilliance of Goodgirls Write Code is in the packaging of the message. Young girls are drawn to the slickly produced programs wrapped in ever popular pink trim, but end up staying for the coding. And they get excited about it! When the boys are clamoring to get into a program that is decked out in pink, you know it's doing something right. This region, and more broadly the country, needs more well-run organizations with worthwhile missions like Goodgirls Write Code.

It is great to see an organization that supports young females in the STEM fields exists in the Hampton Roads area. My daughter has a love for computers and to come across this organization has given me great joy! I know little of computers so I can not help her pursue her passion but I am relieved to learn that there are qualified supportive women ready to educate, assist, and mentor her! As soon as the summer camps are announced I will be signing her up!

My daughter attended a week long summer camp with Goodgirls Write Code last summer. Over the course of the week they taught her how to create her own website! It was incredible to see the many lines of code that is involved in creating a website. To know that my daughter wrote that code in just five 2-hour sessions was amazing! She loved every minute of it! We can't wait to see what this summer's camp has in store!

My daughter loved attending the after school Goodgirls Write Code club this past year! I was impressed by the projects she completed and how much she learned. She continues to use scratch to make all sorts of projects on her own. We can't wait to sign her up for the Goodgirls Write Summer Camp!

I volunteered with Goodgirls Write Code again this past winter. I am continually amazed how quickly the kids grasp the complex concepts that are required to write a computer program. They not only understand the programming languages they enjoy learning them. It is fun to watch them experiment with the code to make the program their own. Goodgirls Write Code is expanding the minds of students and introducing them to a world of possibilities through code!

As a retired teacher of 35 years of math and science, I have seen the direct results over time of young girls getting involved in programs like Goodgirls Write Code. It is so important to get girls involved and able to develop confidence in their own skills at an early age. These types of programs give girls an invaluable foundation of encouragement and basic skills to pursue interests in the STEM learning. As a teacher I was always searching for programs to integrate into my classroom to get children actively involved and excited about learning. Goodgirls Write Code is able to provide instructional materials to schools that do just that. The programs teach basic coding skills in a fun and interesting way that facilitates girls gaining a great sense of accomplishment when they realize what they’ve created. The instructional materials that Goodgirls Write Code provides schools is an invaluable resource for teaching these skills in an effective manner. I look forward to when my own granddaughter is old enough to become involved in the camps in Virginia Beach!

I helped to host the Goodgirls Write Code afterschool program at Windsor Oaks Elementary School last December. The students were taught how to code a simulation game from scratch and why modeling is important to architects and engineers. Coding is becoming an important aspect in all areas of our daily lives. There is an increasing amount of career opportunities which involve some type of computer programming knowledge, so we want to offer these experiences for our students to understand these concepts at a young age. The girls were very eager participants and they picked it up a lot faster than the adult volunteers did! This was a great program and we hope to use it again!

I have had the opportunity to run a Goodgirls Write Code Club at my school this year. I have run three different sessions with 3rd, 4th and 5th grade girls. This has been an amazing opportunity for not only myself, but the girls as well. The girls have had the opportunity to learn coding basics and get excited about learning more on their own - after their session finished. Some of the girls have gone on to begin to work on their own app creations as well as create their own Scratch account to continue exploration. I am thankful that I was able to bring this opportunity to my school, giving girls a chance to learn coding, and participate in something they wouldn't have ever thought to explore otherwise. The girls are excited to continue their learning. Mission accomplished Goodgirls Write Code!

This past #GivingTuesday I donated to Goodgirls Write Code because I believe that their efforts of providing students with a better STEM education is vital to the growth of our economy. In this tech driven world, learning programming will advance children to the next level and prepare them for a life of success. As well as providing children with the skills they need to succeed, Goodgirls Write Code's programs create qualified employees that can fill the growing amount of open STEM positions. CEO's are struggling to find enough qualified employees with STEM skills required to do their job, but with a program like Goodgirls Write Code kids will get excited about learning STEM and will pursue a career in the STEM fields.

I believe that every school should incorporate computer science into their curriculum and that they should use Goodgirls Write Code programs to do so.

My experience with Goodgirls Write Code this summer as a volunteer and mentor to girls between the ages of 9 and 14 had a tremendous impact on me personally. I was able to combine two of my passions in life: computer science and working with children. The curriculum focuses on encouraging and motivating girls to excel in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, or STEM. Everyone I worked with from the founder of Goodgirls Write Code to the interns and volunteers all had a common goal in mind - to develop the next generation leading ladies in computer science, aka STEM stars. Lessons are built around computer science topics such as programming in a way that not only helps them learn a new skill but also improves the girls’ self-esteem as well as their relationships with others and their community as a whole. I highly recommend Goodgirls Write Code to others looking to volunteer for a non-profit and to teachers in schools looking to incorporate an exemplary computer science program. I look forward to working with Goodgirls Write Code again next summer!

My daughter was enrolled in a Goodgirls Write Code camp this summer. She’s always liked computers but I didn’t feel like she really understood what was going on behind the scenes. As a software developer myself, I wanted her to learn fundamental computer science skills to give her an advantage when applying for academy programs in our public school district. She took the HTML/CSS/Javascript camp and loved it! I couldn’t believe how my little girl at 9 years old was showing me how to build a website using HTML and CSS. By the end of the camp she had created an entire website from scratch. I highly recommend Goodgirls Write Code and their programs to parents and teachers. I’m even looking into sponsoring a Goodgirls Write Code club at my daughter’s school next year, so other girls can learn to love computer science as much as I do.

My daughter participated in Goodgirls Write Code through her elementary school and also through a summer camp and she absolutely loved both. In the summer camp class, the class worked on designing a 'Pet Shop' website. The best part was that it allowed for each girl to add their own special touch but at the same time allowed them to utilize the coding instructions and guidance from the teachers. My daughter brought home her own project on the last day and her dad and I were impressed at how much she had learned. Also, it was amazing to hear her describe the concepts she had applied. I don't know anything about coding but my husband is knowledgeable in this area and was impressed to see that she understood the overall concepts and could speak to the 'language' of HTML etc. It is without a doubt an exceptional and enriching program. I hope this program continues to grow in our community and our nation so that more of our girls can embrace this wonderful path and be the next wave of leaders in the world of STEM.

My Niece attended the course as a first exposure to web design and computer science. Since completing this course, she has been inspired by her experience and has started programming projects of her own. My Niece is now considering courses and careers she never knew existed.

The staff at GoodGirl has been both supportive and professional. My Niece is looking forward to her next course, and an opportunity to further grow with computers.

Good Girls Write Code has been an incredible experience for our nine year old! Writing code is not something my husband or I can teach our daughters, so to have found an organization that can has been wonderful. Reports show there are not enough females in the computer science field. Whether or not our daughters pursue the computer science field, we are excited Good Girls Write Code gives them the opportunity to get a head start to explore it. Good Girls is well organized and provides our daughter with information she can really apply at home!

I spent a summer working as an intern with Goodgirls Write Code and it was one of the most impactful work experiences I have ever had. Goodgirls works to decrease the gender gap in the various engineering fields, especially those dealing with computer programming. Creating meaningful and educational modules to teach young girls programming and computer skills allowed me to aid students in a way that I never had at that age. I believe that learning these skills early on in their educational careers will greatly benefit any girls that wish to pursue computer science or engineering in high school and college.

Goodgirls Write Code is an incredible organization that allows girls the freedom to express themselves in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects. They offer excellent mentors that help to educate and empower young females in their path to becoming future leaders in the STEM fields. At Goodgirls Write Code's after school programs and summer camps the girls make lasting friendships while they are learning, creating, and exploring the different computer programming languages.

I had the opportunity to volunteer this spring at one of Goodgirls Write Code's after school programs. It was a fun experience to watch the girls get excited and engage in computer programming. They learned how to create different games using the computer program Scratch. By the end of the 5 week period the girls began experimenting and creating their own programs in Scratch. I had a great time and look forward to volunteering with Goodgirls Write Code again this summer!

Goodgirls Write Code is a wonderful organization that empowers young girls, giving them the confidence they need to pursue their interests in Computers, Technology and Engineering. They've developed a series of interactive programs that are taught in after-school programs and summer camps which introduce girls to coding with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and more, in a fun and encouraging environment.

I had the opportunity to volunteer with Goodgirls Write Code this Spring. It was such a rewarding experience to see the girls light up with enthusiasm each day and work together in a group environment to figure out a solution. I was also amazed at how fast they were able to pick it up and grasp the programming basics. These girls are the future. They can do anything they set their minds to do. Showing them that they can impact the lives of millions through Technology was an amazing experience.
