Don't even bother donating or volunteering with these people. I donated a lot of things and never got a thank you. I also was volunteering teaching a class (spending hundreds of my own dollars on things like guitars and toys for the kids), and I got scolded for talking to a teen about how life can get better. This place is incredibly understaffed (obviously for good reason). Don't even bother there are too many other places that you can volunteer where they appreciate you. Also, look on their job posting sites to see exactly where your money is going: to the salaries of the staff, not to the women and children.
Review from Guidestar
The Convent of the Good Shepherd I will never forget. I was there 40 years ago when it had 3 units, all set up dormitory style, A, B, and C. The convent took in troubled female youth, troubles that varied from each individual, yet each was given hope, structure, love and a chance to find themselves. It was run by the "old school" nuns, and they never gave up on anyone. School was on premises, they had a big brother, big sister program, if applicable, you could earn home visits. We each had chores that had to be done, everyone helped, we worked together. I will never forget how much Mother Claire taught me, helped me, and gave me, she was gifted with working with troubled youth. For that I will forever be grateful to her and the Convent of the Good Shepherd. God Bless and Prayers.
The Convent of the Good Shepherd Shelter, literally saved my life almost 19 years ago. They provided food, shelter, and clothing for my children and I, but their help was not limited to meeting our physical needs. They help re-educate the women who came to them for refuge. They had individual and group counceling sessions, family therapy, play therapy and focussed on healing the whole person. They helped children to understand that "it" wasn't their fault, and to let them know that "love is not supposed to hurt". One of the questions the families are asked are what did the children leave behind that they were extremely attached to? By the grace of G-d they managed to pacify the children if not replace the item itself through donations. I could go on and an with testimonies to their incredible love and dedication... The sister of the Good Shepherd love unconditionally, and have devoted their lives to spreading G-d's love through their deeds.
