Mission: To prevent homelessness and serve the needs of low-income families and individuals, Good Shepherd Housing began in 1974. That mission remains in place today, with expanded programs to meet the housing and other critical needs of the community. Our primary focus is the "working poor," who have limited access to other resources. (i.e., They earn too much for some programs, and not enough for others.) We want all people to have the tools and resources to make their own future success.

Programs: Apartments/budgeting/counseling (abc rental assistance). Rent apartments to low-income families refused housing elsewhere. Provide budget counseling and case management to move families to self-sufficiency.

emergency services. Prevent evictions and keep utilities turned on for low-income families in short-term crises.

housing locator program. Part of the local implementation of the federal homeless prevention and repid re-housing program (hprp), the organization is developing, coordinating and supporting a county-wide network of professionals that provide housing search assistance for people facing homelessness. Partners in this effort include facets, housing and community services of northern virginia, new hope housing, the fairfax county office to prevent and end homeslessness, reston interfaith, shelter house and more.
