Results: Throughout COVID19, Good Samaritans of Garland has continued to operate as the only food pantry in Garland open five days a week providing food assistance for housed and unhoused (homeless) neighbors.
With most service agencies closed or services severely curtailed, Good Sam provided food assistance for 7,000 families in April, May, and June a 300% increase over 2019. We accomplished this with our tenacious, focused staff of three and a crew of 20 volunteers, all 100% behind our mission to reduce hunger.
To further identify hungry and food-insecure families in need due to COVID19 and the economic downturn, Good Samaritans (Good Sam) formed partnerships with Garland ISD, DART, and the City of Garland.
To provide healthier options, Good Sam has partnered with Borden Dairy for weekly milk delivery, and North Texas Food Bank and Farm to Table for produce pickup. We believe no one should be hungry and have access to nutritious food.
We continue to welcome anyone seeking food assistance and will do so as long as social distancing is mandated. Our motto is to 'give what we have', knowing we're entrusted with resources to compassionately help our neighbors facing difficult challenges.
