We had a great experience with our adoption of Maggie! We are forever grateful to Char and Good Karma Rescue for helping her become the happy and healthy girl she is!
My husband and I adopted our first puppy from Good Karma Rescue and had a great experience! As first time pet owners, we’ve had a ton of questions and Char was more than helpful. She was great and answering questions and teaching us how to love our sweet puppy the best!! Highly recommend expanding your family through Good Karma Rescue ❤️
Super easy and very nice to work with. Char and Julie were great to work with, and we are so happy with our beautiful girl!
We adopted our dog from Good Karma as a puppy, and he brings so much joy to our lives. They rescued him from a kill shelter in Kentucky and brought him up here. We loved our experience with Good Karma so much that we now partner with them as fosters. Similar to when we adopted our dog, we take in dogs that come up from the South and foster them with us until they find their forever home.

I adopted Atlas from Good Karma and he’s been such a joy since he walked through the door. The process with the rescue was simple and efficient and they’ve been incredibly easy to contact with any questions or concerns since adoption day. 10/10 would recommend working with them to adopt a happy and healthy pet!
Char from Good Karma Puppy Rescue was awesome to work with. It was a great experience getting our new puppy, Maple. Char shared details with me about Maple before we met her. I knew she would be a wonderful addition to our family, and she is just that!! I would recommend Char and this organization to anyone!
My family is so happy with our new puppy. All of the people from Good Karma were super helpful and nice. You can text them directly and they respond quickly. They also offer shots which saves a lot of money. You can tell they care for their dogs.
This rescue is absolutely AMAZING!!! Char was so helpful and you can tell she genuinely cares for these animals! Bringing another pet into your family is no light choice and I’m so thankful for choosing to go through this rescue, they are so supportive, they follow up, and they are there if you need help! I would 100% recommend this rescue and will only use them in the future if we decide to add another furry family member to the pack! 10/10 all the way across the board!
We adopted a dog through Good Karma a couple weeks ago and couldn’t be happier! They are incredibly run, incredibly helpful, and incredibly dedicated to this! I would recommend them to everyone! We love Roxy and she is the perfect fit for us!
We have adopted three dogs from Good Karma. They have been amazing family members with the best temperaments. This rescue is truly amazing. The dogs are so well taken care of and loved. I will be forever grateful for Char and Good Karma. I know that we will always turn to her when we want to adopt another fur baby.

We have adopted two dogs from Good Karma- one nine years and one this past March. Char was so amazing with both adoptions. I have never seen anyone spend so much time and effort dealing with puppies/dogs. Our first dog’s litter came to her with parvo and she gave the best care to them. Our vet couldn’t believe how well ours looked considering she was so sick. Our second puppy was just as well cared for. I love that we got to see pictures of her mom before she was adopted out to a loving home too. Char spends a ton of time going over everything and making sure the dog is a good fit for you, she truly cares. We would not go anywhere else to rescue a dog. I feel blessed to have found this amazing rescue and wonderful woman who puts her heart and soul into caring for every puppy that comes into her life.
To be honest, I really wasn’t planning on adopting a puppy at this time in my life. I have been a dog mom for 38 years. I have always adopted from the Humane Society or rescues. The last puppy I adopted was in 2002.
I was still grieving the unexpected loss of my four-year-old border collie mix named Finnegan. In order to fill my need to walk a dog every day, I was borrowing family members and neighbors dogs to lighten my heart. While walking my black lab grand dog, I decided to take a look at local rescues to see if there were any border collie mixes available. I remembered two of my friends had adopted their pets from the Good Karma rescue. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I opened the pets available on their website, and saw a litter of eight border collie mix puppies that had just arrived from Arkansas. Before I knew it, I had submitted the application and had an interview and meet and greet the next day. (May 15, 2024). On May 19, 2024 we brought the former Kiki, now named Penny, to join our empty nest home. Penny is now the baby sister of our 12 year old rescue border collie named Lucy. Poor Lucy, the queen of the house, has a new princess that loves to nip and herd her. It’s a great combination because Lucy is teaching Penny manners and Penny is livening up Lucy‘s life. Penny had her first vet appointment on June 18, 2024, and she was the “bell of the ball.” Everyone at the office was impressed on how sweet Penny’s temperament is and how smart she is.
Our family has been wondering what breed or breeds Penny is. We were told that her mother was a border collie, but her father’s breed was unknown. We thought she might be a corgi mix, a sheltie mix or even a husky mix. We decided to do the dog DNA testing and were completely surprised with the results. The family decided to do a virtual breed reveal celebration on June 18, 2024. All of our guesses were not correct. The DNA revealed that Penny is 50% Australian Shepherd, 25% great Pyrenees and 25% German Shepherd. We’ve all had great laughs with the true reveal. Now that we look at her we can definitely see features she has from each of those breeds.
Good Karma rescue was very thorough with the application, interview and meet and greet process. The foster mom and Charmain immediately responded to any questions or concerns I’ve had with Penny. Since we’ve adopted Penny, we have learned that other people we know have adopted dogs and cats through them, and they also give high recommendations for Good Karma rescue. Although I wasn’t looking for a puppy, God opened the door for Penny to join our family. She has made my sad heart from losing Finnegan once again merry. She is a blessing to our family. Thank you Good Karma Rescue for the wonderful work you do.
We highly recommend Good Karma Puppy Rescue!!!
We lost one of our pups, and it was evident that our remaining dog needed a companion, so we started th journey to find a rescue companion. Good Karma responded to our inquiry, and we successfully adopted our Chocolate Labradoodle within days. Char obviously had the puppy's best interest in mind, and required that we bring our adult dog to meet the baby. The meeting went well, and we brought Mac home the next day. He has been an absolute joy for all of us, and we are forever grateful the Good Karma! We have found not only a companion for our adult dog, but also our forever family member!
We were looking for a rescue after losing our Sadie girl at 14yrs 8mos. Signed up for AdoptAPet to start looking for puppies/young dogs. We wanted another Lab/Beagle mix, just like our Sadie, but preferred a tan/white rather than black/white like Sadie was.. Had been looking for a couple months and "Leona's" profile popped up. She was exactly what we were searching for! I filled out an application and Char with Good Karma Puppy Rescue responded. This pup had only been in foster care in Michigan for 7 days and came from Arkansas. I had to go see her! I made an appointment for the next day to meet her. It was a 2 hr drive from our house. We got there and I was nervous and excited at the same time. She was very shy and scared of everything. Not very familiar with people and ran away from everything. We decided we needed her in our home, renamed her Ruby and took her with us. She rode well in the car for the 2 hr trip, sleeping in the back seat the whole way. We had our challenges ahead of us, as she was afraid of both of us, especially males, had never been on a leash, wasn't potty trained and wasn't interested in eating or drinking. She warmed up to me first and slowly started coming around the next few days. Now 6 weeks later, she knows her name, is completely potty trained, knows how to sit and shake and is very loving and affectionate. She has lots of energy to burn, loves to chew on everything and has discovered her voice (bark). We are working with her every day to improve the few unappealing habits she does have. She is still shy around males, but is slowly improving and trusting us. She is the perfect fit for us and we truly appreciate Good Karma Puppy Rescue for all they are and do. It was the perfect match and I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a pet. Char was excellent and easy to work with. I would recommend her, as well. She loves what she does and it shows. We are so happy with our adoption and so glad to share it with you.
Good Karma has been great to work with start to finish. Amanda was very knowledgeable about Zeke formally known as Rocky. She was honest about where he needed further training and what his strengths were. You could tell they really wanted him to have his forever home and cared about him very much! He was neutered and fully vaccinated before we got him. Amanda also gave follow up instructions with his care and when he would need further vaccinations. The whole process seemed too easy! We are so thankful for our Zeke and he’s been a perfect fit! Adopted June 1st 2023
Good Karma has been amazing!!! Every time I have reached out even after the adoption was done Char is always so patient and quick to respond. You can clearly see her love for animals and her knowledge of what is best for them!! We now have our little Navi and my older girl Mera has a new best friend!! Our family is complete thanks to Char and Good Karma!
This is Gus. He was adopted last year on the same day I submitted my application. Unheard of! Char was great to work with and took care of the heart worm Gus had. He is happy and healthy and a great addition to our family.
After interviewing with Char, she allowed us to do a home visit with the foster family. It was obvious the foster was taking great care of all the puppies in their care. We are thrilled to have adopted Shelby Grace. She’s living her best life.
We have always had humane society dogs but this was our first experience with a foster rescue.
I'm convinced that this is the best possible situation for both the dogs and their future owners. Due to his experiences at Good Karma, our puppy adapted quickly and easily to our home, our older dog, and to us. Char was so helpful and supportive in helping us choose the right puppy and in making sure that we had everything we could possibly need for his first forever home experience. Now, I can't imagine doing it any other way. I feel very comfortable recommending Good Karma without reservation.
Dominique Abed, Ann Arbor
Pieces was about 15 weeks old when my husband and I adopted her from Good Karma Michigan rescue. She is now 5 months old and we named her "Sadie" she is doing great!
Good Karma Puppy Rescue was a blessing! We had been struggling to find a puppy - and to get responses from other rescue places (I know - they are all volunteers!), but Char responded right away and all the folks involved with Good Karma made it easy to adopt our wonderful Georgie. (She’s hard to photograph, because she is rarely still when you point a phone at her). They had lots of information about their puppies, and even offered access to discounted neutering, as well as some fees refunded upon neutering. It was a lovely experience!
I found my new baby girl online and immediately fell in love. Char at good Karma was highly communicative, understanding and easy to work with. Bunny has been such a blessing to me and Good Karma made the adoption quick and easy. We love Bunny and she came well mannered and wonderfully taken care of. She and my senior shepherd adore each other and she’s learning her manners from him! We will definitely check in next time we are ready to adopt!
We adopted our girl at a local adoption event through Good Karma! We were not planning to adopt that day, however, the sweetest girl wound up in my lap..and it’s been all up hill from there. Good Karma had a variety of different dogs to adopt, all so clean and well cared for that it was initially hard to decide on which one. Charmaine gave us her contact and has been helpful (and at last minute each time) with guiding us through any difficulties or questions! We continue to see her for vaccinations before we visit with her vet. Again, our dog Veida was treated like an angel before we got her and it shows!
I adopted a dog from you in early April of 2020. I did not adopt due to COVID. I adopted because (1) I had lost my dog of 17 years a couple months before, and (2.) I knew my daughter had had such a great experience adopting 3 dogs from you/Good Karma. She tells me you could use some testimonies from adopters that tell stories of love and satisfaction pre, during, and post adopting. I am one of those people.
His name was Mickey when I adopted him from you, but I soon changed his name to Kobe, selecting his name with the help of my grandchildren. Kobe and I have a wonderful story to tell about his loving rescue that has continued to be better and better. Our relationship is so nice, Char!
Kobe came to me totally bald. You may remember him as the totally black dog who you guys took on to cure him of systemic mange. Hence, he was completely bald when I adopted him. It’s taken 3 years for his coat to fill in, but it has with daily doses of melatonin and a good diet….along with lots of love. He’s not had any post mange problems as a result of the care you and your foster parents gave him before I adopted him. You gave him a good foundation to grow on. Unfortunately he has a few scars left on his face and back legs, but, we are continuing to work at doing everything we can to thicken fur around those areas. In the meantime, I have a sweater and a raincoat to protect him in the winter time, and he’s been totally fine wearing them. He’s such an amicable dog.
Despite how sick he must have been when you rescued him, he only required taking one more mange curing pill when I adopted him. By then, He was eating well. His teeth were in good shape. He was as good of a dog as you would ever want. He was and has continued to be a shy, laid back, yet well trained medium sized dog who already knew such commands as sit, stay, and no when he came home with me. He was completely house trained upon arrival, and has never messed in the house since I got him. He has gotten me in good shape, too….. I do not have a fenced yard, so, we usually walk about 1/2 mile twice a day…. He has always been very good on his leash. I’m thankful for that because I am not strong enough to handle a dog pulling me along. All I have to do if he begins putting pull pressure on his leash when walking is say (and even without raising my voice), “Kobe! Wait for me!” And, he’ll immediately ease up. Given the holiday this week, he is also not bothered by the sound of fireworks (that really surprised me). He sleeps with me every night, and doesn’t crowd. His presence makes me feel more secure. He is wonderful when having to go to a vet for check ups or toenail clipping. He is very cooperative. Although I was convinced he thought he was Chicken Little, he was always looking up fearfully when passing through doorways or chasing a toy (he loves his toys), he has slowly gained trust in his world and is no longer a chicken little and more like a Kobe Bryant! All my neighbors love him but I love him the most of all. I am sure this is why his trust in humanity and other dogs has grown, but he is still a dog who prefers lazy days over being real active. Perfect for me. His addition to my life has been absolutely one of the right things I ever did!
….. Rescued dogs KNOW they’ve been adopted; they even ACT grateful to have been removed from their bad situation. There is really no logical reason to purchase an expensive animal these days when there are soooooo many wonderful ones out there available and waiting to share love and life with a caring and loving human. I like to adopt because they are not as likely to present all the puppy problems and adjustments that come with puppies. Puppies are adorable but just too much work when often a little older dog may already be house trained, more manageable, sleeps through the night.
Keep up your good work, and that said, I would say Good Karma is one of the better rescues I know about. I hope more folks will find you and work with you to rescue and adopt through you. You are a special rescuer; one that can be trusted to support and help adopters find success when adopting dogs you have rescued. You make it easy for us to take these babies home and provide them a forever home by supporting us through the adjustment period. I think the rescuer (YOU) is just as important for adopters to have a great experience.
Hi, I prayed for a little chihuahua that wanted to go with me everywhere and be my mini me!!
Well, I was more than blessed when as a birthday gift my sister and brother got me
“Marie” who I renamed “Tinkerbell”!!
She is the best girl in the world!! She was born
April 17, 2023 and she was potty trained, knows her name and is so loving! Did I mention she is the most adorable girl in the puppy world!!
I take her everywhere she loves it! When we’re out and I gave her in my purse/sling people stop me and take pictures of her!
I am over the moon for her!
I would recommend this non profit agency to everybody!! Ty sooo much for making my life
happy again!! Thank you Charlotte sooo much❤️❤️
Good Karma Puppy Rescue was amazing. Not only did our family receive the most beautiful puppy but Charmaine and her crew helped with future puppy shots for free and her upcoming spaying. This is Bella Blue Bonnet, rescued from Houston Texas. Hence her name Blue Bonnet is her birth homes state flower. We love her so much! Thank you Good Karma for rescuing our sweet girl.
I cannot say enough about this rescue! We saw a picture of Lambchop now Wanda and fell in love! We applied to be a foster for her and secured her spot to freedom. She along with 49 other pups came from Texas for a new life. Charmaine was amazing with communicating. She kept me informed every step of the way up until the moment of pick up. They were very organized with medication and everything that the pup may need. We knew right away that she would become part of our family and we’re able to adopt her. She is a wonderful pup and the perfect addition to our family! Good Karma saved many lives that day and added so much to ours.
Good Karma Puppy Rescue is the best. We adopted two puppies from Charmaine (Char) and have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience. She was extremely quick to answer my resume, answered all my questions and concerns in a timely manner, and even let us come back for vaccines and nail trims! You could tell she cares deeply about the animals that come to her home. My two boys are so in love with the two brothers we adopted, Rex & Remy!
Good Karma was absolutely amazing when it came to helping us find the perfect puppy to add to our family. They answered every question I had and they were very friendly
Definitely go to them in the future
This is Winnie
Adopting from Good Karma Puppy Rescue was an incredible experience. The rescue Char runs is truly inspiring and shows just how much she cares for each and everyone one of these dogs who's lives take a complete 360 when they come into her care!
I adopted the cutest little guy, Archie (Ray previously). He came all the way from Texas to be here with me and it was love at first sight. He's a shy little pup who has such a big heart for his people and has the biggest personality (probably the dachshund in him). It's been amazing watching him overcome his fears and gain a curiosity for the world around him. When I first adopted Archie in November 2022, he wouldn't wear a collar or step foot in the grass. Now he loves his walks and spends all day roaming the lawn for the best smells. He has won over every person he knows and loves to spend weekends with his grandpawrents. His latest adventure includes bike ride excursions where he rides in his own little basket.
We went through Good Karma Puppy Rescue to get our current puppy. From the moment we walked in we were impressed at how friendly and knowledgeable they were about all of the puppies they had for adoption. They were very patient and helpful all the way through the process of the adoption and have even been available after for any questions or problems we may have. We highly recommend anyone to go through this agency for their next rescue.
Great organization! Super organized, fast response, good advise based on experience and they love their animals. Montana has changed our lives in so many ways. We are blessed. Thank you Char and the team at Good Karma!
Good Karma was quick to respond to our query about available pups. It was time to look into finding a new companion for ourselves and Toby. Our Toby is getting up in years and we've always taken the opportunity to let new fur family learn from our seniors.
Roxanne, aka Bubbles from Forest litter, was quick to insinuate herself into family life here. Besides Toby, a suspected Boxer/Catahoula mix rescued after Katrina displaced too many pups, we have two indoor rescue tabbies, Buster & Junior, as well as two Maine Coon outdoor kitties Coon & Willow. Roxanne had come from a very active foster home menagerie so wasn't the least bit intimidated by multiple new family members. She is also quite the clown, travels well, is terribly intelligent, and very good at entertaining herself! See photos.
Charmaine at Good Karma has been a pleasure to work with and explained everything very clearly at the time of adoption. I would certainly consider looking at Good Karma, should we be in a position to adopt again.
After inquiring about multiple dogs online, Good Karma was the only one who got back with us, and right away. They were always available to answer any questions we had right from the beginning and even after we adopted . They followed up with us just to make sure everything was going well. They really went above and beyond to rescue our poodle and many other dogs to find loving homes. I highly recommend this organization, they truly have hearts for these animals needing homes. Thank you to all who helped us find the newest addition to our family!
Best experience with getting a rescue puppy ever. We assisted my Sister to get a Chiuwawa mix puppy, she had her heart set on one of the girl puppies. Working with Charmaine and her foster puppy Mom Charlotte was really easy. Thank you so much! My sister is so happy and the family is so happy. Best choice ever!
We can't thank you enough for this wonderful seamless experience and wonderful addition to the family.
5 star plus
Thank you again!
We are so thankful to Good Karma for bringing our boys into our lives. My daughter had been asking to give a dog a forever home for years. So the day we met Henry and Louie, I knew they were coming with us.
Char made sure we were set up for success. She even lent us a crate to make sure we had everything we needed. She answered questions, made sure they got vaccines and helped with the cost of getting them neutered. She truly cares about the puppies and their well-being even after they have come home with you.
Thank you so much for all of your help, Char! These boys made our lives infinitely better!
I can't rave enough about Goodkarma rescue. I adopted Minnie ( now named Pip) about a year ago. She is the light of our lives. Unfortunately Pip has had some heath issues that the vets have had difficulty navigating and Goodkarma has helped me get her help when no one else would. I has fostered dogs for several organizations but I have to say that the individual care level I have received through fostering and adoption with Goodkarma is the highest level I have ever encountered.
I helped my mother adopt a dog from here, and we couldn’t be happier with our new family member. The staff was very helpful and made sure that we were going to be responsible pet owners. Our new doggie Milo was just the sweetest little guy, we are thrilled to have him!
I can't believe how blessed we are to have rescued such an amazing doggie! Thank you so much Char for saving all the dogs you can and finding them homes. I can tell our little ZuZu loves us as much as we love her! Thanks again Char!
We went to an adoption event just to look…famous last words! I instantly fell in love with a little 3 legged puppy. The great thing about the people of Good Karma was that there was no pressure at all to try to get people to adopt. They asked a lot of questions and gave a ton of information about the dogs they had to make sure it was a good fit for your family. They gave us the time we needed at the event to determine if Charlie (Polly when we adopted her) was a good fit for our family. They gave us great information for her future and gave us a collar and leash. That was 6 weeks ago and Charlie is thriving!
We rescued a young dog from Good Karma in April. They did a wonder job providing medical care for her and providing a fantastic foster home before she was ready for adoption. They kept in contact with us afterwards and made sure the fit was good for both us and our new family member. Thank you for saving and bringing her to us!
After searching and searching for a puppy online, I found Good Karma and fell in love with a couple of the puppies they had listed. I missed out on the Mike Morse event and the puppies I was originally interested in. Char let me know that there was one puppy left named Oakley and sent me his info. I fell in love and brought him home that day!
The process was very smooth and Char and Bethany were extremely helpful and responsive when I have had any questions or concerns. Oakley has been the sweetest, goofiest puppy and he is so loved by everyone that meets him. He loves trips to Home Depot with his dad and having dinner with the family at any restaurant patio! He even gets along with his feline sister, Abby, who typically stays away from dogs.
Thank you Good Karma for letting us provide a furever home to this sweet boy!
Shar helped me and guide me during the process of adopting our fur baby. She is amazing and truly care about animals. She went all the way to Texas to rescue as many dogs as she could. One of those angels was Frannie! We are blessed to have her because of Good Karma Puppy Rescue.
We decided to leave the name that Shar gave her to honor her. We will be always grateful for this place and Shar.
I was looking for a new pup to share my life with. I came across Monty (previously Chex) and made an inquiry. I got a call back in less than 2 minutes! Char was so patient and kind in listening to my situation (I was moving and couldn't take a pet right away). She offered to work with me and let me come visit him every week so we could get use to each other, and so he could build trust with me before I yanked him away from his first safe home. She was again, patient and I could tell that she put her pups first. She was knowledgeable about dogs and loving. She even brought him to my new house to let him get use to it and waited in the driveway while we "socialized" together. When the day came to bring him home, it went very well because he already knew me and the transition was much easier for him. She continued to give advice and let me reach out afterwards too. I'm so happy I found Good Karma, and Char!
We adopted our lovely girl back in 8/2020. When lots of other rescues were not even bothering to reply to applications to turn them down. Good Karma not only reached out to us but took the time to get to know our family. They paired us with our lovely girl who has been an amazing pup. Thank you so much.
Charmaine at Good karma puppy rescue helped my daughter and I connect with the sweetest boy we could ever hope for. The process was quick but thorough, you can tell by the interview that she really cares where the animals she rescues end up. She was very helpful with offering a wealth of knowledge to us, as we were first time dog owners. With her help, we have the best addition to our family that we could have asked for! Our sweet boy moose! We could not be happier to have given this little angel his furever home.
I have to admit that the experience has been amazing.
Our adoption was FAST. Everything went smoothly and the people are incredibly easy to speak with.
I could not have asked for the outcome to be any better. Our adoption has transitioned smoothly and is truly found a new home. She's amazing.
My little dog of 14 years passed away and I was devastated still a couple of months later. We have a 100 lb GSD that was raised with our little dog so In knew it was best to get another little dog but it was still scary. I talked to Char as we discussed my situation and she had us set up a meet in greet with a cute little Cheweenie dog. The first meeting went well and then we set up a trial weekend and now we adopted Jinjer (former Diana) . She is a sweet healthy dog and we are very happy. Sorry I'm not able to post a photo it wont load! if you are looking for a rescue definitely contact Char at Good Karma Puppy Rescue she goes above and beyond.
Good karma helped me find the right puppy for me , I love my Bella she is so sweet she loves to cuddle just like they said she would and she was so well trained when she came home .I applied for my puppy on Thursday, good karma approved it on Friday and I got my puppy on Saturday. Bella was already introduced to house training so she wasn’t new to anything, shes also healthy . Good karma is available anytime to answer any of my questions I may have via text or phone
This rescue is amazing for taking dogs and puppies from high kill shelters and finding the animals their perfect forever homes! They are committed to providing the best care for the animals while awaiting their forever homes! They are a foster based rescue so no sitting in a stressful shelter for these animals! You get to know from the foster family a ton of great information prior to adopting which helps put them into the right forever home! They also have a very unique process called foster to adopt! Meaning you can pick an animal from an upcoming tranport you are interested in adopting and foster that animal to be sure its the right fit! If its not amatch the rescue will happily find their forever home!
Its a triple win situation! pleade consider donating or fostering your next family member from good Karma puppy rescue!
Char at Good Karma is truly a special soul. I had lost both of my sweet dogs within the last few months and I wanted to explore finding a sweet dog needing a loving home. She went at my pace and found me the sweetest baby and we are a perfect match!!! You can tell how loved and taken care of all of the rescues are in her care. They are happy and healthy. I will be looking for another pup to be sofies pal in the near future and will always come back to good karma! Sofie (formally phoebe) has brought happiness to our home and we will love and care for her forever!
Adopted a puppy from this rescue. He is very happy to be home with us and we are totally in love. We named him Charlie.
This past Thanksgiving I lost my dear little buddy Parker after 16 years of profound friendship and 'fur therapy.' I didn't realize how much had changed in the world of rescues since I last adopted but it was overwhelming and frustrating. The online search options are endless, just getting someone to respond to an inquiry was daunting, and actually meeting the pet face-to-face seemed almost impossible. Thankfully, I stumbled upon Good Karma Rescue.
After more than a month of sending out inquiries with no replies, I found a dog that seemed to check all the boxes for me. To my surprise, Char at Good Karma responded immediately and was happy to set up a live meeting at my convenience. She made things very simple, friendly, and allowed me plenty of time to determine if this was, in fact, a good fit. IT WAS A PERFECT FIT!
The entire process was quick, simple, and painless for all concerned. I can't recommend Good Karma highly enough. It's been three months now and our new little girl is an absolute blessing. She fit right in, adapted to the rhythms of our home, and I can't imagine life without her now.
Thanks, Char (and Good Karma) for all you did to make this possible. So thankful.
Jim, Carol and Nali
Good Karma helped us adopt this sweet doggie from Texas. Amanda at Good Karma was so nice to work with! She was available at all times for questions related to the process including getting our puppy treated for heart worms. Would recommend this rescue go anyone looking to rescue a pet!
My partner and I have had our sweet little dog for one month now and cannot imagine life without her! Thanks to the wonderful people at Good Karma they made this such a great experience. Amanda made sure to answer all my questions and was available whenever I called her leading up to the adoption day. Originally we were just going to foster Lexi (formerly Princess) , for a couple weeks just to make sure she was a good fit, but the day we met her we instantly fell in love and made her our fur ever pet. She is a darling dog and is adding so much joy to our life.
What a wonderful organization! Everyone I met was so caring, thoughtful and helpful. My husband and I decided to adopt a puppy to replace our older dog we lost recently and as a companion for our younger dog. So we decided to foster4 puppies. That way we could get to know them a little bit and find out which one would work best for our household. That was such a rewarding experience, I would do that again. I learned alot quickly. So glad we found this rescue, very informative and organized, the people involved are great. I would highly recommend!
Good Karma is such a sweet organized nonprofit. Char & (Sarah who took these sweet puppies into her home to care for them) was so caring and has lots of information about your concerns and questions. If you’re looking to adopt, I would highly recommend them. They will never disappoint and will do everything for these sweet caring loving animals. They will go above and beyond for these sweet babies even after you adopt them. I’m so happy I found my forever friend for my fur baby and for my kiddos. We are in love!
About a month ago, this little dog named Ettie and her sad story caught my eye. I got in touch and they got back to me right away. In a short time she was coming home with me. She has been a lovely addition to my household and I can’t remember what life was like before her! Here’s a photo of her and my big dog, they’re becoming buddies. Good Karma has been great to me all throughout the process. Would be glad to refer friends to them!
My husband and I lost our 16 year old pup due to diabetes. We decided after 2 months to find an older rescue. We started looking on pet friends the humane society. We are a couple in our late 50s. Adopting a pet that needs a home should not be an issue. We were met with lengthy applications asking for references. (We are not children) Some even tried to assign us dogs lol. Some never even got back with us. But all asked us for donations. I saw a little dogs picture on pet friends. And decided to try once again. I called the phone number and a real person answered. We met our new pup that evening and picked him up the next day. Healthy and really needing a home. No lengthy application. They do want to meet you and get some Info. But nothing invasive. And they stay in contact to make sure it's a good fit. In short they really do have pets that really do need homes. I am so greatful to them for my little sidekick. I'm not sure how I lived without him. Thank you Good Karma. I appreciate the work you do
Good Karma Puppy Rescue is the best. They care, and are easy to work with. Amanda was so caring when I sent her an email about the tragic loss of our puppy we just adopted from another rescue, that we were told had an enlarged heart, and had to be suddenly put down, due to heart failure. It was so painful, and tragic. Good Karma Puppy Rescue rescued us. We found our Pumpkin on Good Karma Puppy Rescue the night Twilight was suddenly put down. Pumpkin melted mine, and my daughter's hearts. Amanda immediately set up the foster to adopt helping us heal over Twilight's loss. My daughter Noelle says Pumpkin's heart beats for two, with Twilight. Pumpkin is such a joy, and has filled the void in mine, and my daughter's lives. Pumpkin just loves us, as we do her, and she also loves our labrador retriever Dixie. Thank you Good Karma Puppy Rescue for making us happy again. God Bless you, and all you do for all these deserving animals. Amanda, and Char, thank you for caring. You're the best. Bonnie, Noelle, Pumpkin, Dixie, and Piglet.
Second time adopter from Good Karma Rescue. I saw this little Angel and I just could not help myself. Milo is loving his forever home and his best friend Lucy! Thanks to Char, the process was very easy, and I was able to bring Milo home within a day or so! Thank you all for the work you do!

I adopted my little Lucy earlier this year in March. She was a teeny weenie itty bitty baby. I was contacted at 8 pm, one day after I filled out my application. The first puppy I reached out about was already gone, but Lucy was brought back due to not getting along with other puppies with original adopter. I was certainly lucky! She’s the best buddy to our other dog Coco.
The foster gave us the rest of the food bag when we picked Lucy up, and a bag of cooked chicken, a collar, heart worm medication. Also offered up her time in case we had any questions. That was very much appreciated! Lucy is growing and living her best life! Thank you!
Good Karma is a fabulous rescue!! We adopted our dog Chelios (aka Curtis) from Good Karma in June of 2022. He is the most amazing dog! He’s super sweet and mild mannered and it was clear that he had been well taken care of by his foster when he came to us. He had been living on the street for a while and needed to learn to trust humans and his foster mom Amanda really helped him to learn that humans aren’t so bad after all. She has been great about following up with us to see how things are going, and it’s clear that she really loves this dog and wants him to be happy.
Good Karma does a great job of setting up their pets to make sure it’s a good fit and a successful adoption long term. They arranged a meet n greet for us with our other dog to ensure that they’d get along well. Chelios came to us in great health and is a wonderful addition to our family. We are so thankful to have him and thankful for Good Karma Puppy Rescue and the work that they do to save so many dogs and find them good homes. I highly recommend this rescue!
A wonderful rescue! Found our perfect fit on a whim. We saw another dog we were considering on Petfinder and went to their adoption event and looked at all the available dogs. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and we couldn't deny our connection with Odin! He has adapted great to our family and I am sure his wonderful foster helped him feel more comfortable and make the process smother and more comfortable for him. His foster was also readily available anytime we had concerns and was most helpful when we found out Odin had a bacteria. It felt great to know that we still had a support system with this rescue should we need it!
I am so fortunate to find Good Karma! I found a dog I was interested in on Pet finder, and Good Karma contacted me right away after I sent an email requesting an application. Then, they responded to my application before the day was over! The other rescues that I contacted still have yet to respond!
C met me at the Foster's home to meet the dog who is so sweet. She made sure that the rescued dog, my dog, and I were comfortable during the entire meeting. When we decided to take the rescued dog to her forever home, C made sure that we had the information we needed about the dog.
The dog was not finished with heartworm treatment, and C told me this right away. She made the appointments and took the dog to get the treatments and sent us home with the necessary medications and instructions. C is also very caring and concerned about her placements because she contacted me daily (for a few days) to make certain that our new dog was OK.
Now we have a new fur-baby and we are all happy. The adoption process was very smooth, and C is very kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend working with Good Karma Puppy Rescue to find a puppy or dog to join your family.
I was blessed to be able to foster Vinnie. He was a hoy, so pleasant, very affectionate, very intelligent and he is now with his forever parents. This Organization has a lot of heart, love, time determination and dedication to their dogs and their volunteers fosters and adopters. I can’t say enough good about these people. I enjoy fostering for them.
We are so thankful for Good Karma! Amanda and Judith have been wonderful and brought Eleanor (formerly Violet) into our family. They were very transparent that Eleanor was HW+ before we adopted her and made sure we knew what the treatment would be like. Throughout the treatment process they have offered phenomenal support. Ellie is on her recovery journey and thrilling in our family. She is already best buddies with our 5-year-old son and we can’t image our family without her. Thank you, Good Karma!!
Good Karma works so hard to make sure dogs have a good home. I have had the chance to foster some of their dogs and they are wonderful dogs. I love fostering for this organization and supporting the work they do. They really care about the animals.
Adopted Raven and fostered (failed) Pax this spring/summer -got great support for some issues I had after I had adopted. Happy to help rescue these besties!
Absolutely Love Good Karma Puppy Rescue! I started fostering during the summer and have fostered two dogs now that have found wonderful and loving families. I first came in touch with the rescue when they were at Pet Supplies Plus in Waterford. Amanda was very informative and had a naturally friendly way about her. I received my first foster shortly after that. This is a very caring rescue and has wonderful fosters that truly care about these animals and want only the very best for their wellbeing. These dogs and puppies endure so very much before they come to us, many times coming from abusive environments and living on the streets, not knowing where their next meal will come from, when they will be able to find a safe, comfortable and caring home with loving parents, to call their forever home. The rescue has their own veterinarian who cares for and prescribes any needed medications for the dogs. Amanda is on call at all times to address any concerns and responds promptly with follow up. She goes out of her way to ensure that foster parents have what they need to be successful. The rescues are cared for and loved like they are our own all the while socializing them and getting them over hurdles to become a wonderful adoptable family member. Amanda and Char provide whatever may be required to do this and to ensure that their rescues have the best chance of finding forever homes. I would, without a doubt, ask that you consider Good Karma Puppy Rescue to find your next four-legged forever family member!
We adopted our new baby Sweetie from Good Karma and they were so amazing throughout the whole process. They answered all my questions without issue! They are so friendly and open with communication when it comes to their dogs! They do such amazing work for these animals and take such amazing care of them!
Love Good Karma Puppy Rescue! This rescue group does an amazing job helping animals find the right home! They provide a wonderful service to the community and truly want to help dogs in need! I highly recommend considering Good Karma Puppy Rescue for your next furry friend!
The people at this rescue work so hard to socialize and train the dogs when they get them. They are very supportive- when you have questions, need help with training, etc. We love our dog and had a great experience!
Beware of this group, they lie about the age of the pet, they hide health conditions, where it came from , how long its been.in rescue etc. Be prepared to open your pocket books. We love our Bo aka Rush but our experience was heart breaking, and now we have vet bills we can't afford but will figure it out.
My name is Charlotte. I got the amazing chance to foster for the first through Good Karma Puppy Rescue. I fostered a mixed Chihuahua mix and her four puppies. It was so fulfilling get to watch the pups grow and see them and their forever homes. I adopted the mom and she has brought so much happiness into my life. Fostering is such an amazing experience. Charmaine is amazing and the work she does is amazing. I hope to foster for her again. She has a heart of gold.
I had a wonderful experience with Good Karma Puppy Rescue! From the application process, to meeting the litter of puppies, and picking my pet! My partner and I adopted Sol (formerly known as Miss Yellow) when she was 2 months old. Char is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable about puppies, she gave the litter medicine and made sure we knew exactly where she left off in Sol’s care by providing paperwork and clear instructions. She did everything to ensure the litter was healthy and ready to adopt. She even provided us with a lovely goodie bag upon adoption which helped ease the transition for our pup :) Sol is 4 months old now and things are going great, we love our puppy and are so happy we chose Good Karma Puppy Rescue!
We adopted our fur baby Rocky from Good Karma, we had just lost our 17 year old fur baby and wanted another one to help fill the void. Our son picked out Rocky from all the adorable puppies and the rest is history! Rocky is the sweetest boy and he gets along great with our 4 year old shepherd! Couldn’t imagine our lives without him! Charmaine is wonderful, she has truly made the adoption experience memorable for us!
I couldn’t sleep one night and decided to go on petfinder.com (terrible but great idea, right?!) I saw an adoption event going on and decided to check it out. I knew in my heart I was leaving with one of the adorable puppies I saw online!!
I held one of the puppies for the first time and instantly knew he was coming home with me (even though my husband told me we HAD to get a female puppy). I have never owned a dog before and knew I wanted one before we decided to have kids. I don’t know how I got so blessed with the most amazing puppy!! Max is the sweetest, most loving and adorable puppy. My husband has completely fallen in love with him and they are best friends already! He has brought so much love and joy into our house and I can’t imagine my life without him now. He is such a fast learner & has had very minimal potty accidents in the house. There is not a single thing I’d change about him and I am so thankful that he is apart of our family. Me entire family loves him so very much.
Charmaine has been an absolute blessing to us with the entire adoption process. She has checked in on our little guy multiple times and has gone above and beyond to make sure we AND the puppy are happy. She is compassionate and so very knowledgeable. I know for fact that when we are ready to rescue our next fur baby, Charmaine will be the first person we reach out to.
We adopted our sweet Tuzzi from Good Karma Puppy Rescue and Char was just amazing! She takes great care of all the pups. She sent us photos and videos and made the adoption process a breeze. She gave us some great tips to help prepare us when we brought her home also. I highly recommend adopting from Good Karma Puppy Rescue!
Good Karma Puppy Rescue is a wonderful organization! Char was so helpful and responded quickly in regards to my questions about adopting Winnie. Even after adopting she continues to check up on us and see how we are doing! This is a great organization who truly cares about the animals!
Char at Good Karma was wonderful. She was very quick to respond on the day of an event where we found out Lulu. This is a great organization with great people.
Our family had a great experience with Good Karma puppy rescue. We adopted a cute little girl we named Almond Joy. Char was wonderful, she sent videos of our puppy prior to us receiving her. Char is very caring as she made sure we had all of our puppies medical records and feeding needs, she has checked in several times with us to make sure the puppy is doing well. We would definitely recommend going through Good Karma to others looking to adopt a puppy.
Good Karma was great to work with! We attended one of their puppy events and found our furbaby. They even reached out to check in several months later and asked if we would be interested in sharing contact info so our pup could see his siblings again! Would definitely recommend them!
Char at Good Karma is wonderful. She was always available to answer my questions and went above and beyond what other rescues I’ve worked with have done and what they should do. She’s wonderful, helpful and full of food advice and information. Cares so much for the animals and that’s what it’s all about!
Shar rescue a wonderful soul from the death row traveling all the way to TX. She brought as many dogs as she could to MI Our baby Frannie was one of the lucky ones!
Frannie is well loved and taken care as she deserves.
This rescue went above and beyond to help her heal all the infections. It made it easier when I took her home and continue with the treatments. Shar is an angel and treat dogs with tons of love and dignity.
Good karma was great to work with. They answered questions and answered all our follow up phone calls and emails. Our dog now has a great home and family.
Good Karma led me to the other half of my heart and I mean that completely. I am so thankful for the sweet girl I found through them, I have loved her since I met her. They made the adoption process so easy and were incredibly kind and thorough about what needs she would have as a puppy. I really recommend this rescue because they truly want to match their puppies with their forever homes. I’m so happy to have Rue. ❤️
We adopted Radar from Char. She brought him over a few times to meet our other dog to make sure they would get along. We gained so much knowledge from Char as she sat with us for almost an hour and discussed so many health, food, training and behavior issues which is more than we had learned from our vet over the years! We are grateful to have our puppy and for Good Karma rescue and would highly recommend Char to anyone looking to adopt!
We had great support from the rescue. They really do care. They followed up to make sure our puppy was doing well and answered all of our questions. Thanks again for our T-Bone
We wanted to help foster but had no idea what we were doing. Char and her team helped us every step of the way and we successfully fostered a pregnant mama and then her 5 pups. The rescue is amazing and provided everything we needed for the dogs and to support us. We actually ended up fostering another litter and their mama. I would recommend everyone who wants a dog to go through Good Karma Puppy Rescue! They are amazing!
!!! Nothing but a great experience with Good Karma Rescue.!!!
I just adopted my first ever puppy at an adoption event they held. I applied first online to my pup, it was reviewed and I was contacted back the same day. I went the next day to the event and took my little girl home. It was all a seamless and beautiful experience! They provided me with very thorough information and instructions for my pup at the event. 2 days after having my little girl home I had some concerns so I called Char personally bright & early in the AM, who is head of Good Karma. She answered right away and assured me that she would do everything to assist me and my pup- and she did! She went above and beyond to address my situation. Everything is fine and my puppy is beautiful and healthy and just, perfect! I feel so blessed that she is even mine. As far as I can tell, these are wonderful people at Good Karma. Thank you again so much! 10/10 Would adopt from them again.
We were searching for the perfect addition to our family. Good Karma helped us find our new family member. They were quick to respond, knowledgeable, and caring from start to finish. They are dedicated to making sure their rescues go to a home that is suitable for them and take the time to review their needs before they go to their new home. We will definitely look to them for future adoption.
This is the second puppy we have adopted from Good Karma Puppy Rescue in the past 6 years and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone else looking for a puppy. Here is a picture of the 2 of them together, Max and Petey.
This is Meimei,(5yrs old), and this is Vinny(1year old). We rescued both from this wonderful rescue! We got Meimei first 5 years ago, and then when the time was right, of course we went to Good Karma, and got Vinny!
Once I held my puppy in my arms I knew she was the one
Good Karma made the adoption application stress free. They followed up to see how everything was going and offer advice. They really care about making the right match. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to adopt.
I always knew I wanted a puppy..but my husband wanted to make sure we could commit ourselves to one...so after years of going to adoption events where I loved the fur babies..I finally got my puppy..aka sweet baby Luke...and that was such an amazing experience...I knew I wanted to continue supporting Char and would donate towels and food whenever I could...and when an adoption event came up again..I went to donate more towels and we fell in love with our newest puppy...Big Ben. Once again..Char and Good Karma had just the perfect puppy for our family. We knew that Ben had been exposed to parvo and shortly after bringing him home..I had to call Char to ask her for help..as Ben wasn't feeling right and she swooped in like a super hero. She got Ben and nursed him back to health. Her knowledge of animal care and knowing what to do..not to mention her outstandingly big heart that is filled with kindness for my Ben and all the animals she comes into contact with just put my mind at ease. Ben is now almost 5 months old and 40 lbs! Our boys...Luke and Ben are best friends. They are just my biggest loves..all because of Good Karma. Good Karma is the only place I refer people to...and I cant wait for my boys to be in the lake and on the boat this summer.
This rescue is amazing and truly cares about the well being of their pups! Char was very thorough with expectations and support, even after adoption. I highly recommend them! My puppy is almost 12 weeks and thriving!
We were debating between adopting an older dog or a puppy to add to our crew. We ended up with a very feisty puppy who is so smart and cuddly. Good Karma did a wonderful job explaining everything from how many pups were in the litter to how to better understand the dog's health. We rescued all of our dogs but this was, by far, the best rescue. They were thorough and even checked in on us after. We truly felt like we can count on them for when we have questions or concerns. They are wonderful through the whole process.
I adopted a darling malti-poo from Good Karma four years ago. I noticed that the Good Karma founder, Charmaine, perceptively sized up my dog and me, and saw a good match when I came looking to adopt. We had a chance to chat about her work, and her devotion impressed me. Taking a broad view of animal rescue, she works to educate and reduce the population of homeless pets in the areas she adopts from, and it was clear to me that the amount she must spend to do so and also to bring adoptable animals North to find homes, neuter and care for them until they are adopted, must far exceed the amount she earns from adoption fees. I appreciated her dedication, her broad vision of the work that has to be done in animal rescue, and the care that my little guy received at Good Karma prior to adoption.
One of the best source for a rescue dog. We adopted two of the best puppies from them. Great caring and responsible management making for an easy adoption with their follow through support.
This beautiful dog can to us as a foster and after fostering we decided to keep her. The people involved with Blu were awesome I have told other people about you guys. Thank you again for letting us have her
I lost my long time companion & friend, Shadow, on 6/23/21 to natural causes leaving my 9yo She-poo without a friend. I began searching for a puppy in July. I made several attempts with other rescues to no avail. I came upon Good Karma & saw that had exactly what I was searching for. Char's response was immediate, thoughtful & kind. She helped me meet my new friend and within days I adopted him. He couldn't be a more perfect fit for our family & we are falling in love with him more by the day. I would definitely use Good Karma in the future as well as recommend them to anyone that is looking for their furever companion. A+++
We have adopted from Good Karma twice. Once, 3 years ago and again this (2021) spring. We wanted another dog and a long-term play pal for our grown dog. She loves the puppy, plays very gently with her, and tolerates those tiny puppy nips like a champ! We assume they should be close in size once the pup is grown, but as she is a rescue we just won't know until she's grown.
Both of our dogs came home around 8 weeks and have been extremely healthy, energetic, and loveable pups. It was very clear the fosters spent a lot of time and attention on them. We barely had to do any potty training with our first adoption. Both puppies were very receptive to people and affection from day one, so they were clearly socialized. Their coats were clean, nails trimmed, and eyes/ears were healthy.
The rescue provided a lot of information and records as well as took time to discuss potential puppy health issues with us. Both times it was made very clear what symptoms should be concerning and which should be considered urgent. That said, you should always do your due diligence and get your puppy to a Vet as soon as possible and stay on top of their vaccinations.
I would absolutely recommend this rescue to anyone. Char is a wonderful coordinator who has shown us nothing but genuine concern about proper placement for these dogs and finding good fitting forever homes.
We adopted Rocki (nee Daphne) on June 23rd. Advertised as a 60 lb. lap dog; let's just say they didn't lie! We have two other dogs and at first didn't think we were going to be able to handle her energy. An accomplished escape artist she escaped a locked crate twice (and left it locked)! She also escaped our yard several times to meet our neighbors. Two foster Mom's and the Owner of the rescue, Char, counseled and consoled us that first week. We are so grateful to them all, and so grateful for our new family member. She continues to entertain, baffle and awe us with her sweet demeanor as she continues to learn, every day. Thank you Good Karma Puppy Rescue for your support.
Our neighborhood, run about stray (who pretty much lives at my house) had an aggressive tumor on her back side show up outta no where. 3 wks later it had grown ridiculously huge. It was painful. She started showing signs of no energy, not eating much, not wanting to interact with anyone. Imma single momma of 3 teenagers n I couldn’t possibly afford surgery for this poor dog. My vet told me about Charmaine n her wonderful organization ‘Good Karma’. I called n Charmaine said “take her back to the vet” without hesitation. The vet removed a 1.5 pound cancerous tumor from this fur baby. Charmaine is our angel sent to save Lucy’s life. A million thank you’s to Good Karma Now Lucy’s has it made, recovering n resting on my couch cause she now has a forever home with my family. We’ll make sure she gets all the love she needs to make a full recovery. She’ll live all thanks to Good Karma. We love u, Charmaine ❤️
I fostered a female chihuahua and 2 of her surviving pups for Char and we were blessed to have adopted all 3. Char is amazing and we couldn't be happier with our new family after losing 2 of fur babies last year. She gave me everything I needed to care for and doctor the dogs as needed. She even helped momma when she got sick and we took her to Char. All ended well. Super lady saving hundreds of dogs every year. God be with you .
Shar was wonderful an very knowledgeable about the puppies she was showing. I left with Maggie an never have had any problems at all! Would choose good Karma rescue again with confidence
Absolutely love my dog but I'm very sold on the idea this rescue knew nothing about him. I adopted him after asking whether he was socialized and did well in the home to which the foster mom talked pretty quickly but couldn't say enough good things about him. His adoption profile did not require a fenced yard as most did-- so far he's needed to run for miles every day. All of these details are gravely inaccurate to the detriment of my dog and I'm spending a lot of time and money training him from scratch. To be clear, it's a labor of love and I'm only angry with the people involved in this adoption who were far less than honest.
Char seemed very kind and ready to place our family with a puppy. However while I was one my way to visit with the dog, she changed her mind about the adoption stating that I lived to far away. It absolutely crushed our family. We had already went out and bought toys and a bed. We were ready for the new addition to our family. I do not recommend this non profit as I believe it might be a scam. Beware. Or at least don’t get your hearts set on a pup in case she changes her mind last minute.
Working with Char was an amazing experience! She was quick to respond, kind, and takes amazing care of the animals she helps find furever homes. Snoopy is the happiest pup and we are so thankful that Char helped him find his way to us. He is obsessed with his big brother and has melted into our family as if he has always been here. 15 out of 10 for this rescue, would recommend to anyone and everyone. Thanks again Char!
Char was amazing to work with. I submitted my application for adoption and heard back within a few hours! We were able to meet our new pup within a day, and was extremely helpful during the meet & greet with our current dog. I would (and already have) reccomend this rescue to anyone who is looking for a rescue that is thoughtful and caring about the puppy bad your current dog. She even followed up throughout the following days to check in
Char and Good Karma were easy to work with any very responsive when needed. The adoption and application process was easy. Our puppy is wonderful with no issues and we are thrilled to have her as a part of our family.
We adopted these two little cuties, Harley and Bailey from Good Karma. Great organization. Char was great to work with. The process was very easy. Just had their 12 week check with the Vet. These puppies are healthy and full of energy. I recommend this organization.
I had previously adopted my dog Beau from Good Karma almost 6 years ago so when it was time to add a new addition to the family, I immediately went to back to Good Karma. I adopted Mason (formerly Cliff) a few weeks ago and he is a wonderful, playful pup that has brought so much joy to us already! Char was amazing to work with and the foster family was great! If you want a smooth process with people who genuinely care, I highly recommend Good Karma.
We adopted Elijah 10/30/20. He was underweight and afraid of the world. Charmaine has been very supportive and the process has gone smoothly. As we have rescued before, we understood that many of the dogs need extra patience. I appreciate that Charmaine checks in with me and shares our excitement about Elijah’s progress. She was very upfront from the start about the issues she was aware of and did not downplay the work Elijah would be. It has now been three months and we have a happy little guy!
We adopted 2 puppies together. They were fostered with a great family and as a result, we have had NO behavior issues with them from abuse! The application process was really easy and Charmaine worked with us to smooth everything along. After we neutered our pups, we got our deposit back immediately and everything! Overall a really great experience and we are SO happy!!
Our family has adopted two dogs and fostered several litters through Good Karma. We who adopt usually know that the dogs have come from less dog-friendly areas and that they’ve already gotten their basic shots, but here are a few things that we who have fostered through Good Karma find out.
–-Dogs and puppies are rescued from many types of circumstances. Very few are surrendered from good homes; most have been abused, neglected, or both. Kind attention soothes the emotional scars, but veterinary expertise is necessary for the physical ones. Even as the animals await their transportation to our area, Good Karma provides for their urgent medical care where they are.
–-Each transport requires attaining use of a sufficient truck, gas to fuel it, perhaps a night or two in a hotel, and provision for special needs.
–-When dogs arrive in Oakland County, their health is checked again. Medications and special foods are provided to the foster families.
–-Foster families are also provided with regular dog foods, blankets, towels, tarps, enclosures, pads, paper towels, and whatever else is beneficial for the particular situation.
–-Since some dogs are too ill or too injured to be adopted right away, fosters may be providing care for weeks before the animals are ready for adoption. Good Karma keeps in communication with and makes visits to the foster homes to make sure any necessary help is provided. This is also true regarding puppies that come too young to be away from their litters.
The more we invest in another, the greater our affection for that other grows. With all that the director of Good Karma invests in these dogs from the beginning, it should be no surprise that she is careful about the homes they will go into. She does not want any of her rescues to have to be re-rescued. However, she has continued to care for several adopted dogs. One of ours recently needed very expensive emergency medical help. Before committing to the veterinary hospitals recommended by others, I called Good Karma’s director to ask if she knew of any other options. She was able to arrange for a local vet to see our dog. He performed major surgery and our dog is recovering promisingly.
THANK YOU to all who have donated to help Good Karma help rescued dogs. The animals you assist provide protective, entertaining, and comforting companionship to hundreds of families.
I have fostered twice through Good Karma Puppy Rescue. Both experiences were incredibly positive and fulfilling! Amanda and Char were so supportive and easy to reach out to with questions. They were quick to respond. I felt fully supplied and ready for each of my fostering experiences.
I have full confidence that the dogs I fostered went to their best possible forever homes. Good Karma Puppy Rescue ensures the highest quality of care and screening of forever families to guarantee these dogs an excellent and happy life!
I recently fostered a litter of puppies for Good Karma rescue and ended up adopting two wonderful new additions to the family! I can't say enough about how knowledgeable and supportive Charmaine was through the fostering and adoption process, which was new to me. She spent so much time helping me through every step of the process and really cares about each animal that comes through the rescue. Every time I met her for supplies, she had animals with her heading for the vet or to meet someone and they were just as happy as can be.
All of Good Karma's animals are fostered in homes that are carefully screened and selected so that each animal has the attention and loving care of a foster family while they wait for their forever family. Each animal is carefully monitored and treated for any illness or parasites prior to adoption. Once they have been fully quarantined for any potential illness and are happy and healthy, they go up for adoption. Dozens of applications are received for most puppies and Good Karma reviews them all with the input of the foster family who knows the individual pups to find the best family for each puppy. The adoption process is fantastic with the potential adoptive family (or families) meeting the puppy and even bringing their other dogs along for a meet and greet. Once the right match is made, the pups go home with their new families, but the support of Good Karma doesn't stop there. Charmaine is available for questions or help if needed and Good Karma helps with vaccines and spay/neuter surgery as well as any other issues that arise while each animal is adjusting to their new home. I truly don't know how Charmaine manages to do it all, but somehow she helps everyone who has adopted from her to ensure the wellbeing of all of the pups and is still able to answer every question a new foster like me throws at her! She's incredible and I'm so grateful she does what she does for these rescued animals. I know they are set on a better path for their lives as a result of Good Karma's efforts!
We adopted our Tula Roo the week after Christmas. Our family wanted a second pup and I spent over a week putting in applications everywhere and hearing back from no one. I heard back from Good Karma the evening I put in my application and we met our new puppy the next day. Charmaine asked us really good questions to see if we would be a good fit and James gave us detailed info and advice for the new adoption process. They’ve stayed in touch to makes sure we’re adjusting well. You can tell they really care about these puppies and their moms. Great experience and we’re so happy with our newest family member!
Good Karma truly brought me the best gift I could have ever asked for. I got in touch with Charmaine after filling out many applications as I desperately wanted a Christmas puppy. She was incredibly helpful, knowledgeable and responsive. Within 12 hours I was introduced to my puppy. The foster home my pup was in was very well kept and clean. The foster mom was also very knowledgeable. The 8 weeks of my puppies life that were spent with this rescue - I can tell - were attentive and nurturing. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a rescue pup to go through Good Karma Rescue. We are so fortunate to have rescued our baby from Charmaine.
We had been looking for about two years, every once in a while applying or expressing interest in a "brother" for our lab-mix "dog child." Most places don't even bother to respond or acknowledge our interest/application. Good Karma reached out to us right away and the next day, we were able to go pick up our new puppy. We were asked questions and vice versa, able to have a dialogue about the pups. When we went to pick him up, we were able to spend time with him and all the documents were clearly explained. We are over the moon with our new puppy and have had a great experience with Good Karma. The follow up has been wonderful and we've been very impressed!
Charmaine was amazing with informing us on how to care for our puppy. She helped us with picking out our puppy and on the importance of healthcare. She’s available for any questions and our Milo is very healthy. She still continues to update us through email on shots. This has been an amazing experience and Milo is a happy healthy puppy with a lot of personality. :)
I’ve adopted twice from Good Karma and could not be happier with the outcome! The process is simple and straightforward with a reasonable adoption fee. Charmaine is very helpful throughout the whole process, giving great advice and answering all questions you may have. With my second adoption, I contacted Charmaine as my puppy had a worsening skin condition. Within days, Charmaine got her into the vet and medicated, free of cost. She truly cares about the health and wellbeing of the pets she rescues. Couldn’t be more thankful for Good Karma!
First off, let me say that first and foremost, these dogs need to be rescued. A shady rescue group is still better than shopping for a dog. That said, if you found your pup on Petfinder, met your foster and took your new pup home along with a cute little goodie bag with fresh cooked chicken and had a healthy dog, than you had a wonderful experience with this group and hopefully that is most peoples experience.
I've seen a different side with this group and can confidently say that not every "volunteer" involved with Good Karma has the animals interests in mind or shows compassion toward these sometimes sick and terrified dogs. Also, the vets are SHADY, good luck getting much info on the treatment your sick dog received. Was your dog spayed? Your paperwork will list that there was an iv administered, there wasn't. Yes, that is sometimes the case with low budget, high volume spays/neuter but paperwork will say different, just be prepared to take your foster/rescue dog home looking emaciated with very little instruction on how to care for them. Many of these dogs will come to you with Parvo, heartworm and other parasites that their initial deworming won't treat. Get your pup to your vet and checked out asap. Don't be bullied in having the rescue treat your animal out of their home or shame you for taking your parvo sickened dog to the vet and even pressure you to make an adoption decision. And yes, this happens (because $$$). This rescue takes in a LOT of revenue (you can look up their taxes) but I sadly cannot believe that the amount that comes in, is the same amount that goes toward the treatment of these dogs. The numbers don't add up and their adoption fees are on the higher end in comparison to other rescues. I believe there is a definite profit happening within this organization. Should you avoid Good Karma? Not necessarily, these dogs lives are priority, to be honest, the sooner you can get them out of GK hands the better. Again, I don't fault them for the condition of the dogs, theses poor animals are rescued from Kentucky and other rural areas but the care is sub-par. Just know there is more to this group than what you see, and for an almost $400 adoption fee, you would expect better treatment and compassion. Don't let that cute doggie bag fool ya!
This is the second dog we have adopted from Good Karma. Our first was in 2013, Charmaine made the process easy, the foster we met was friendly and informative, our dog was healthy and we still love him to pieces. The second time around in 2020, the process hasn’t changed. This new pup needed some extra medical attention- she got a tummy bug-and Charmaine was a rock star and responded immediately to all my calls and texts with advice, she provided the tests and medicine- (even cooked her some livers!)- and helped nurse our pup right back to health over a few days. I could never have expected someone to care so much after the pup had been adopted out. Charmaine is great-she really cares about these dogs, and I would definitely recommend adopting from Good Karma!
We just adopted Daisy our little sweet pea from Good Karma Puppy Rescue and we had the best experience during the whole adoption process. Char is such a warm and caring person. You can tell that she genuinely cares about the pups in her care. She was very thorough about what to expect during the initial few weeks when adding a new addition to our family especially how our other dog Bella may react and how to handle different situations between the two. Char also explained about how the rescue will support the continuing needs (such as shots)for our pup when the time comes as long as we come to her directly. I just cannot believe how loving & caring they are and I would recommend that anyone looking to adopt a puppy to please consider Good Karma as your first choice in doing so.
Adopted a cute little puppy, last week. Was easy to get into contact with and to get info on how to care for my new puppy
We have never been so happy things worked out this way. There were a couple bumps along our road with other sites or rescues but good karma puppy rescue has been amazing! Very caring, timely and knowledgeable along with supportive and invested for the well being for every soul. We can not express the joy our two baby girls bring every day. Thank you GKPR!!
I adopted two beautiful puppies from here and they have been a wonderful addition to our family. Thank you!!!
My wife and I adopted 2 wonderful little 8 week old chorkie puppies from Good Karma. The one on the left is Zoro and the one on the right is Bella. Char is a wonderful person to deal with, even more so after the fact. Bella ended up getting sick a few days after we got them and she told me to bring her over to her house, even though it was 9:00pm, so she could give her meds and check her out. She even gave her a test to rule out Parvo. By the time I got her home she was doing better. Two days after that Zoro was not feeling well and she walked me through what to do on FaceTime at 11:00pm! I don’t know any other person at any rescue that would do what she did. She even checked back in the following day on both of them to make sure they were doing ok. She is very supportive and always willing to answer any questions. I wish there were more people like her in this world to do what she does. I highly recommend this organization to anyone looking to adopt a pet. By the way, she adopts out 500 pets a year!!!. She is awesome!
I adopted my sweet Saffron from Good Karma seven years ago. I pinch myself every day that I lucked out with the best dog in the universe. I adopted her when she was already a couple of years old and Char gave me a clear idea of her behavioral concerns (i.e. counter surfing). Easy enough - I don’t leave food out.
Adopting an older dog has many benefits, including a clear view of their personality from the get-go. My dog is an angel on this earth and has even served as a therapy dog for Beaumont hospital. I have a special needs daughter and Saffron is her best friend. I am so grateful that I stumbled upon Good Karma and adopted Saffron.
Thank you again, Char! I can’t imagine life without this sweetheart and I have you to thank!

We’ve had such an amazing experience with Good Karma. We fostered for them multiple times and they gave us everything we needed for fostering. We were a foster fail and adopted one of the puppies from the litters we had. She is such an amazing sweet puppy and we wouldn’t have been able to find her without good karma. When ever I have questions she is always there to answer them. We had a group of pups that did get parvo and she goes above and beyond to make sure they get the medical care that they need. Our foster pups were lucky to survive and were able to be adopted to amazing homes. As a foster I know how picky the rescue can be with finding the right homes for these pups. They want the absolute best for all of them.
Luna (black lab/retriever in the photo) has been an amazing addition our home! Good Karma was integral in making sure that Luna’s health and wellness were top priority during our foster and adoption period. They went above and beyond for our sweet girl!
We took two puppy from them, they were well cared for you can tell and the people are amazing to work with. We just love our two additions to the family, they bring such joy. The people are very knowledgeable and really know what they are doing.
I adopted a dog from Good Karma that was listed as a "spitz mix, 12-18 months old, loves to snuggle on your lap". Nothing about needing a fenced yard, nothing about being high energy, nothing about needing another dog to play with. I made it very clear to the foster before adoption that I did not have a fenced yard and that I worked full time, she said that was fine for this particular dog. The dog was pretty calm upon meeting and seemed very sweet. She was very calm at my home the first day I had her. The second day her true colors came through and even though I supplied her with plenty of exercise and chew toys, she was extremely high energy and had severe separation anxiety. I worked with the dog for a week trying to ease her anxiety and keep her energy level down through exercise, but it wasn't working. I finally had to give her back which broke my heart because she was a very sweet and loving dog. I had spent around $500 at this point with the $380 adoption fee and the supplies that I had to purchase for the dog. When Good Karma re-listed the dog on their website, they listed her as a "Jack Russell terrier mix, 12 months old, high energy dog that needed a fenced yard and another dog to play with". When I saw this, I emailed the director about all of the new/changed information in the new listing and asked her to please consider at least a partial refund of my adoption fee. Never heard back from her. I would expect some type of response from a professional person who runs a rescue such as this, but nothing. The dog was re-adopted within a couple of days.
We have Good Karma Puppy Rescue to thank for 2/3 of our dogs! We’ve also fostered a total of 13 puppies for them since January 2020. Upon meeting them and learning their fostering process, we felt nothing but certainty seeing how much they handle from medications to food costs to cleaning materials. Working with Char and her wonderful, wonderful team has humbled us. They’re truly caring animal activists and they’ve inspired us to help when we can. We trust their adoption and “meet & greet” process and know they’re always looking out for the DOG and its chance at a safe and nurtured life, integrated into a home like a family member not a pet. Could not recommend this rescue more for puppy adoption or adult dog adoption! They home the best :)
We recently adopted our puppy Luna from good karma and felt so supported by this rescue. Our puppy got sick at the beginning and Charmaine advised us on everything that we should be doing for our pup and even provided medication. She was so knowledgeable and caring. I’ve volunteered at many rescues but have not met someone who is as caring and knowledgeable as Charmaine she goes the extra mile!
We adopted our sweet boy Maverick from Good Karma Puppy Rescue in the middle of the pandemic. I appreciated how thorough they were in finding a family that had experience with our dog’s breed. It was love at first site and we are so grateful to rescue our pup from such a caring rescue group. Thank you!
I have been a foster for Good Karma for almost 7 years. My husband and I specialize in fostering pregnant dogs rescued from shelters. It is a 10+ week commitment and we have loved every minute of it. We have a separate room just for the moms and puppies with comfy beds, food and toys to make their experience loving and comfortable. Char always gives us everything we need to keep the dogs safe and healthy, and vets are always at the ready 24/7. These dogs and puppies that are rescued often have a rough start to life, and the people in the rescue have been nothing short of amazing. Everybody's goal is simple; to loves these animals, give them the best care and find them the happiest of forever homes.
I am often asked what happens to the moms we foster, and I'm proud to say that they are usually adopted first! These moms interact with our dogs to build up their trust, gets lots of love and attention and only separate them from their litter when THEY are ready (not on a schedule or timeline). I'm proud that by the time these moms are ready to be adopted, they are happy and healthy and transition to their forever homes with ease. I'm just as proud of the puppies, because we pay just as much attention to them, to ensure they grow into well-adjusted, happy and healthy puppies.
There is a reason it is called a "rescue" environment. Dogs and puppies are rescued from tough situations (whether shelters or local environments) living in rough conditions. So, that is why Char gives 100% support and resources to her fosters to ensure the well-being of the animals in our care. I love that I have been able to help as many animals as I have been able to while volunteering with this organization, and plan to continue to do it as long as possible!
I adopted a Golden mix from Good Karma, and it was the best experience with a rescue I’ve ever had! We’ve adopted from Adopt-A-Pet and The Humane Society in the past, but Charmaine blew them out of the water. She was so informative about health conditions, what to do if he got sick, and gave so many helpful tips. You can tell her heart is fully in her job and that she loves each dog like they are her own. I’ve never seen someone so passionate about what they do. I had a couple questions after we took him home, and she was quick to respond to every single text. I will forever recommend Good Karma Rescue to all my friends and family! We will never adopt from anywhere else.
Our family welcomed this sweet boy in our family thanks to good karma rescue. He was the perfect piece we never knew we needed. Charmaine has been a godsend! She went above and beyond her job. She just doesn’t do her job, she loves the job she has and it shows. When needed she was a call or text away to answer questions or help us solve a problem. She really does love this dogs. When you first adopt with good karma she informed you the risk of parvo, what medial treatments/ vaccines they provided, and when the next vaccines are due. With parvo, good karma states that if your puppy were to get sick that they would care for them free of charge. After a week of having him home our sweet bubba, he got sick with parvo. The worst nightmare a new puppy owner could hear. We called Charmaine and she jumped in right to help. She knew that it could be a costly vet bill but that was not her main concern she knew with the condition of our puppy he would be put in a crate and isolated. Bubba hates to be alone. With her training as a vet tech and her vet connects our boy got to heal in a loving environment. She kept us updated with videos and information as she nursed him to health. And best part she opened her home for daily visits to assist in his healing and to show the puppies they were in a loving home. Sweet bubba is healing from his parvo and on his way to a happy life thanks to her. This rescue has been a pleasure to work with. During a stressful situation this was a great decision for our family. So I highly recommend getting your next fur baby from good karma.
My dog was only held at the rescue for 2 weeks. In this time they did not take care of his health conditions. They also did not warn me about his extreme preexisting conditions and in direct correlation I have thousands of dollars that I am not trying to find to pay for the damages and a high anxiety crate. I messaged them multiple times about paying for the preexisting conditions(hundreds of dollars in vet bills) as they had told me they would, and they have not yet responded. Also, even though they advertise that all dogs are up to date on shots I was not given a rabies tag and my vet told me that he was missing a few crucial shots that all dogs should be given. He came full of multiple worms and when I mentioned it I was told I would not be a good owner if I took him to the vet... I only recommend rescuing from them if you have thousands of dollars to spend on vet bills. They also charge a much higher adoption fee than anywhere else.
I had an amazing experience!! This is Adrian and she is about a month old now! The woman that helped us was very informative and told us exactly what we needed to do and when we needed to do it. I couldn’t of asked for a better experience and for a better companion for her other dog!
We had an awesome experience with Good Karma, from start to finish! We were lucky enough to get 2 sweet, precious puppies that they rescued.
And the staff was available to answer our many questions and they also answered questions about the puppies after the adoption was complete. I highly recommend this wonderful shelter!
After months of searching for a puppy to rescue, we found Good Karma. Application is comprehensive, but necessary. Charmaine called me to introduce herself and explain the adoption process. Everything went as we hoped and we were add a new happy healthy family member the following day. I appreciate the periodic follow up. Overall, very pleased and would recommend Good Karma to anyone looking to adopt or foster.
We have adopted three dogs from Good Karma Puppy Rescue and have been overjoyed every time. I highly recommend adopting from them!
We have rescued two dogs from Good Karma, And my son has rescued one from them too. Our first was in 2016, “ Glock “ aka Presley, he is a mix breed with very distinct markings, and a birth mark in his face, nobody had applied for him the day of adoptions, one look at him and I fell in “ love”, my husband didn’t want to let him go. He is the best dog, so sweet and well behaved and a faithful companion. The same day my son adopted his beloved “ Ellie”, she and Glock have grown up together and just shy of Glocks 4th Birthday, we adopted “ Nikkolai” Aka “Murphy”, during Covid. He is a husky / shepherd mix with distinct markings as well and a parvo survivor. He and Glock are best friends/brothers. Charmaine is awesome , along with the people who help her, she goes above and beyond for these fur babies and is very helpful to adopters. She puts a ton of work into her rescue and treats all of these dogs as if they were her own. She is a wonderful person. I hope this rescue gets all of the help and support it needs, they certainly deserve it.
We got Rosie (Bambi) the first of June this year after months of trying to rescue a smallish dog. Our 14 year old Dachshund past away the first of March and since the Coronavirus invaded our world everyone was adopting pets. We had specific details we needed to fit our family. Good Karma Puppy Rescue pulled through for us. After applying at many rescues and no responses, Amanda called and we discussed exactly what we were looking for. I was interested in Bambi. We scheduled a greet and meet and realize this was the dog we were looking for. You know the old song "Unanswered prayer". I was beginning to feel like giving up when I seen Bambi's picture on their site. Everything works out for a reason and I am so happy with this little girl we have. She's perfect and fits perfect with our family. Thanks to Good Karma!!
My husband and I adopted our current dog 8 years ago from Good Karma and were first time fosters in May. We picked up a very scared mom and 11, 2 wk old pups (7 were hers, 4 from a mom-less litter) from the transport van. We were provided food, puppy pads, paper towel and a bag of medications for possible health concerns. As a new foster of puppies i was in constant contact with Char and esp. when health concerns came up with the mom (worms, coccidia and mange). Char was extremely proficient in knowing what the health issues were and how to support the mom without harming the pups (who were too young to receive medications). Her knowledge was impressive and she helped me with any concern i had, responding within minutes. Char provided us with a cooked chicken to coax the mom to come to us and trust, that was so helpful. The mom would not allow a leash anywhere near her, Char suggested a harness, which worked wonders and was less stressful for all of us. We carefully monitored the pups and provided meds for worms when they were old enough. Char made sure they had 2 sets of vaccines before they were adopted. The mom was moved to another foster home a week before the pups were to go up for adoption, We were notified when the mom was adopted, I was so happy! Due to Covid the adoption process was done on line, A location was chosen and potential adopters were scheduled a meeting time. I was delighted that we could meet each family, tell them about the pup and their personality. I could feel how each potential adopting family was carefully chosen and it felt like each one went to the perfect home. We would have fostered again, but received our Leader Dog approval days after the pups were adopted. I love this rescue and their dedication to serving the animals.
We recently adopted Lily from Good Karma. She is 1.5 yrs old and a recent mother. She was definitely well taken care of and we had such a positive experience. Charmaine was wonderful, very knowledgeable and conscientious of who she placed Lily with. We have kept in touch and I appreciate her help & ideas making such a smooth transition. I definitely recommend Good Karma.
Good karma is the best experience I’ve ever had. I grew up in Westchester New York, and watched/ helped my parents rescue horses, cats, dogs, and mice. Anything my brother and sister and I brought home, my parents would keep. During college I was blessed to have an internship with a British Newfoundland dog trainer. I have trained dogs, and rescued animals, my entire career. I thought I was pretty good at it, until I met Miss Charmaine. Not only is she an expert, and possesses great knowledge about dogs, she’s also unusually loving. I’ve dealt with many rescues, and many veterinarians in my life, and she surpasses them all She taught me “it’s about the dog, not the owner”.She is authentic, direct, and extremely kind.
So as a foster mom to my latest litter being a momma and her 7 pups was one of the best experiences we have ever had!! As a new foster mom I was aided and supported thru this whole process so it went so smoothly. We got so attached to our babies and momma that we were put at ease by making sure everyone went to a good home and even momma was adopted the same day as the puppies. I really appreciated that the application process is more picky to ensure rehoming these lovable pups to families that will really love them and wonderful living conditions. We couldn’t have been happier to even see momma going to a home where the kids already loved her and she them!! We will continue to foster for Good Karma! They love these animals and want to see them go to good homes!!
This will be a very long review and I really hope everyone takes the time to read this review. I was a foster for Good Karma Puppy Rescue for 6 1/2 years before personal life changes happened and I was no longer able to foster for this amazing rescue anymore. Char the director of the rescue is an amazing woman and cares so deeply about all animals! All of the fosters that have been fostering for this rescue for years have been truly amazing friends to me and my family and awesome animal advocates for animals all over the US! Some things I would like to address from other peoples reviews are as follows:
the first review where someone mentions the mothers of the puppies... Where are they? Most of the animals rescued by Good Karma Puppy Rescue are animals that have been dumped by their owners to very high kill shelters in Kentucky. More times than not a litter of puppies are dumped at the shelter without mom. Meaning the owners would like to keep mom but don’t want to deal with the puppies. There have been many times where Char has worked with the owners and paid for the spay of mom (to prevent future litters) and she stays with her owners and puppies and once done nursing her puppies come up here to Michigan to find their forever homes. That in no way shape or form is a puppy mill! We are talking about a very poor area that does not have any type of spay or neuter programs in place. So a lot of residents do not get their animals fixed because they cannot afford it. Which of course leads to an overpopulation of unwanted animals that are then dumped at the shelter or dumped on the side of the road and left to fend for themselves. I personally fostered many moms that were brought up from Kentucky with their puppies. I personally fostered many adult dogs that were local surrenders, adults found as strays and not claimed by their owners from Kentucky, adults found as strays here in Michigan and not claimed by their owners.
Another review I would like to address is the health issues of the puppies. NEVER in the almost 7 years I fostered puppies and adult dogs for this rescue were health problems hidden from adopters. If a health issue did arise after adoption Char ALWAYS made it right by returning the adoption fee and offering to do whatever else she could to help the puppy. And never were intestinal parasites dismissed as “no big deal”! As for intestinal parasites being easily transferred to humans I am no veterinarian but the 6 1/2 years that I fostered in my home, I had very young children of my own who were always putting things in their mouth and eating food with their hands and never once did any of my children get an intestinal parasite.
As for the review from the “volunteer” I don’t even know where to begin with this one as there is SO much misinformation in her review. I know who wrote the review as she was a one time foster for Good Karma because she was a terrible foster, upon further research into her background she is not a recommended foster from many different rescues here in Michigan. As for her comment about being paid to foster all I can say is good for Char for being able to afford OUT OF HER OWN POCKET to pay fosters. Some fosters did accept the offer while other fosters did not accept the offer. Because in the rescue community we know the demand for fosters is high and not many people are willing to foster. All of the supplies for each litter are paid for and supplied by the rescue. Chars response to the fosters about the background of the animals are sometime vague and that’s because Char herself is not given much info from the shelter where the animals come from because again most of them are dumped there with no explanation. As far as lying about breed that is not true! It is a best guess by a veterinarian based on the look of the puppy and mom if they happen to get her along with her puppies.
As for the review from someone who didn’t get the puppy they wanted because of their work schedule I TOTALLY agree with and will stand by any rescue that won’t adopt an 8 week old puppy to someone that is gone 8 hours a day! For the health and well-being of the puppy it is not good to leave them crated 8 hours a day 5 days a week with only one potty break in between. That is setting the puppy up for failure and to eventually be surrendered back to rescue because it is going potty in the house and going potty in its crate because that is what it was taught from an early age. Eight week old puppies also need lots of physical and mental stimulation. That cannot properly be done while crated for 8 hours a day. so again puppy is surrendered to rescue because it won’t stop chewing furniture or bouncing off the walls when it is finally let out of the crate after being in it for eight hours a day.
In conclusion Good Karma Puppy Rescue is an amazing rescue filled with wonderful volunteers who truly care about the health and well-being of all the animals in their care.
This rescue is all about saving dogs and finding them amazing homes. I first came into contact with this rescue when I adopted an adult dog through them. I was so impressed I adopted another soon after. It was a wonderful experience and they really know how to support their adopters. It was then that I decided to foster through them. So far I’ve helped place over 35 moms and pups into loving homes that otherwise would, most likely, have not had a chance of life at all.
This rescue is also very good at assisting its fosters with all their needs. Anytime I’ve had a question or was concerned about any health issues concerning my fosters, Char (the director) was immediately responsive and willing to help. She has met me at all times of the day and is truly invested in the wellness of her rescues. I highly recommend this rescue!
I have been volunteering with the rescue for over 3 years now. During this time I have fostered numerous moms and pups and dogs that were called “aggressive”. Seeing the mom dogs get adopted was definitely more heartwarming and touching then the babies most times. I know the moms didn’t always have it easy and to see them become trusting and then find their happy homes is AMAZING!
My first mom and pups was a difficult one the mom had some issues and wasn’t trusting with everyone but she LOVED me and I LOVED her. If it wasn’t for the fact that she and my one dog would occasionally get in a tussle I would have kept her. I Fostered her for 6 months before she finally found her family. When she did get adopted I cried and I still think about her all the time.
If you have thought about fostering but have never pulled the trigger I would highly recommend this rescue! She truly provides you with everything you need to be successful!
I have adopted my dogs through this rescue as well. Anytime my dogs have needed help she has always been there. One of my dogs broke a leg she helped me. My one dogs got mange she helped. She goes above and beyond for her fosters and her adopters.
Good Karma puppy rescue is a FABULOUS rescue solely focused on the well being and care of their animals. I fostered for my first time ever this summer with Good Karma and it was such a wonderful experience! Char helped me through everything and is so focused and committed to the dogs care! She is always available to text or call and has a vet always available to address any questions or concerns. I fostered both a mom and her litter. I wish I could have kept them all! They are loved from the second they arrived until adoption day! Given the best food, first vaccines and tons of love! They are very thorough and particular when it comes to adopting out fosters which really made me feel good as a foster mom knowing they were going to a happy and safe home. I am so happy to have fostered and would do it again in a heartbeat if it weren't for us moving. We did end up adopting one of the puppies and she has been such a joy to our family. Highly recommend!
Here’s our pups today at 5 months that we rescued from Good Karma rescue in April 2020. We decided to rescue two puppies from the same litter. We went to the foster home to meet the pups. The pups were golden retriever/white German Shepard’s, beautiful dogs with lots of interest so we were told just because we were invited to visit does not mean we’ll be picked to adopt the pups. We ended up being picked. About 3 weeks post adoption both pups got Parvo. With having two under the care of Char, I was highly involved in their treatment. I spent 3 and a half weeks talking to Char every day and almost seeing her every day. Ultimately, our girl pup Nala passed away, but our boy Simba beat it. Char and I cried together multiple nights about my dogs and other sick pups. Discloser, I did not know Char before adopting my pups. Some of my friends thought I was crazy how much time I was spending at Char’s caring for these pups. We cried together when Nala passed. Char offered to refund our adoption fee or adopt another puppy. Ultimately we knew we wanted two dogs so we choose to adopt Jasmine (golden retriever/lab), Jasmine came into the rescue with Parvo and was cured to health. Char is a great person that you don’t find everyday. Yeah she might come off as a little stern but that’s because she LOVES these dogs. She’s not going to give a dog to just anyone! I seen first hand all the late night texts and calls from fosters or from leads where dogs were abandoned or abused and needed to be rescued ASAP. If you choose Good Karma Rescue as your rescue you can rest assured that Char has done everything she could to care for your new family member. Thank you Char for what you did for me and my family and for what you do everyday. Your rainbow bridge is going to be filled with lots of poop and kisses. ❤️
We have adopted our three animals from Good Karma. Cosmo was a puppy when we adopted him from Good Karma. Char the Director was absolutely wonderful in helping finding us the perfect puppy friend for our then 13 year old Lab mix. She is giving you all the information you need plus some dewormer etc. she is also always available for anyone who adopts and has questions and even when our older dog which we didn’t adopt from her started having health issues helped us talk through it at any time of the day or night. We ended up adopting a kitten as well from her as well as a 2 year old collie mix a month ago after our older dog passed. Over the years we started to foster sometimes and we can say when the transport comes Char takes great care of all the puppies and the moms. She goes way beyond to safe some sick puppies who have Parvo and nobody else would give them a chance. This lady is dedicated her life to safe animals and to be honest for people who adopt and complain about prices- it cost the rescue a great deal of money to make sure they get the vet care they need. Once your puppy or adult dog is spayed/neutered she returns $50 to the adopted. I dislike to read some of the below reviews when people assume things and have never seen how much this rescue does for all the animals they adopt out. If any adopter has an issue and contact Char she will take care of things with you. However leaving reviews and not reaching out to her is not really fair since she can’t do anything about making it right. As one of the reviews stated you never know what puppies pick up and then can happen anywhere you adopt or if you get a dog from a breeder.
I began fostering for Good Karma this year and despite what others seem to have said below, we have had a good experience. Char, the director, coordinates the transit and manages the placement of each of the dogs (sometimes moms and litters, which are NEVER separated at time of foster) with an appropriate foster. At time of foster pick up, things can get chaotic. Often, Char has a whole van full of transported rescue animals, each with their own unique and often unknown history and host of problems. She goes over any remaining details (fosters are apprised of all foster home requirements/recommendations before being approved) and hands you the appropriate medicines to get the dogs started on their vax schedule. At this point in time, unless previously treated by a shelter in their point of origin, they have NO medical records and we often have no idea what we’re getting into. Fosters are aware of this and do it for the love and welfare of the animal - I’m not expecting a clean, manicured, trained puppy at time of pickup - so whatever the challenge, I know I’m in it to get this dog on track for a better life. Most puppies are born with some form of intestinal parasite, and many pick up things like Giardia and Coccidia before they ever reach a shelter/rescue. Then again, perhaps they make it to the shelter fully healthy but pick something up easily once there? Either way, people involved in fostering communities know that dogs are often born with a parasite passed to them from their moms, and when dogs come from squalor or are in shelters, they can pick up all sorts of things. Giardia can come from dogs licking stagnant rain water, for goodness’ sake! Our last foster came straight from the transport van into my car FULL of ticks. She was, to the best of Char’s knowledge, a stray and caught in a live trap on a farm before she was picked up by the GK transport. She had (appropriately) received a bravecto the day before transport, and all ticks were dead. I simply had to clean her up when she finally got home. Needless to say, when I get a new foster, I immediately assume it has health concerns, and I’ll say this - to her credit, Char delivers. Inside your little medical packet to support your foster is dewormer, medicines for diarrhea due to coccidia/giardia, etc. There are first doses of flea/tick/heartworm preventatives included, and there’s a Parvo testing kit in case of emergency. It’s all there. Char is literally always available, at all hours, for any questions/concerns. I’ve called her at 2AM. She’s come to my house to pick up dogs for routine vetting (if they make it that long in foster - they’re often gone after 3 weeks as long as they’re of safe age to be separated), and she’s constantly checking in to see how things are going. Really, in my experience, if anything, Char has been OVERLY involved and intense about the welfare of dogs in her care.
I can see there are quite a few spurned adopters on here and that doesn’t surprise me - Char puts a lot of trust in her fosters and not only entrusts us to vet all potential adopters, but also encourages us to be extremely thorough and diligent. The fosters are trusted to determine what the puppies will need to be successful - e.g., a fence, another dog for company, yes/no kids, etc. - and what we say is what goes on their listing. Of course, this will disqualify some wonderful homes immediately, but it’s for the safety and well being of these animals that we do what we do, not for the satisfaction of the people who come to us looking for pets. Overall, I think that about sums up Good Karma’s approach - we’re all in it for the dogs, and we’re not in the business of telling everyone “yes.” I know the feeling of disappointment that comes with being denied, and there’s even some heartbreak, but please know that we don’t ever turn people away for anything other than what we believe is in the best interests of the dogs. I even try to make sure that when I reject someone, I tell them why and encourage them to check out another dog that fits their lifestyle so that they know the hope is still there for them to find the perfect fit. As a foster, I never aim to cause frustration or upset, but it is, unfortunately, inevitable. This is a volunteer only, foster-based network, not-for-profit organization and at the end of the day, we take great pride in placing all our animals in homes that give them what we deem their best chance at success. We do not operate on a first come, first serve basis, and we advertise that point clearly in all postings. Invariably, there will always be hurt feelings - but for each happy new rescue family, another family is upset at being rejected - keep that in mind when the time comes that you adopt your next puppy.
All in all, despite what people have noted below about Char’s demeanor, the organization has been wonderful to foster for and is 100% dedicated to the welfare of its animals.
I recently fostered a litter of 6 puppies for Good Karma. Char was great and supplied me with everything I would need, checked in multiple times a week to ensure the puppies were all doing okay and I didn’t need anything. When it was time for them to be put up for adoption, I was able to be apart of it and talk with potential adopters to find the right puppy for them, as I had spent 3 weeks with them and knew their personalities very well. They may be a little bit pickier on who they adopt to compared to other rescues, but I appreciate that and to me it shows they want to find the best homes possible. These little pups all became apart of my family, and I was very pleased with the families that were chosen. They were all very timid puppies who had a rough start to life and were all adopted out to homes with other dogs to ensure they were comfortable. I was very pleased with my experience and thoroughly enjoyed being allowed to open my home up to 6 little angels. I ended up adopting one of the puppies myself and couldn’t be happier with him.
Good Karma Puppy Rescue is an amazing organization. The rescue goes above and beyond to rescue dogs living in deplorable conditions and place them in loving forever homes. Good Karma is deeply committed to finding the perfect home for both puppies AND their mamas. As a foster for the organization I can attest that many times a mama dog is adopted with one of her puppies! This rescue is selfless and comprised of amazing individuals who just want to help all dogs in need. They take their time at educating new parents and are available even after adoption to help with any questions. This organization is truly a blessing to the animals they help as well as the community.
I reached out to Char a few months ago to inquire about fostering, and I was completely blown away by the entire process. I had never fostered before at that point and she walked me through the whole thing and got me completely set up with all the supplies and information that I needed and more. I was interested in fostering because I wasn’t sure yet if I was ready for another dog to add into my life. The first litter of puppies that I fostered were in terrible shape when they finally got to Good Karma. It took a solid month for Char and I to nurse them back to health enough to find them homes. When they did find their families, you wouldn’t have even known how sad they looked before. Char and Good Karma do so much to help dogs and puppies from all over and I am so proud to be a part of their team. I was also the typical foster fail and I ended up adding another sweet fur baby into my family. He and Lilly have been completely inseparable.
We lost our 10yo dog in July and decided that fostering would help fill the void in our house. Good Karma was very responsive and guided us through the whole process of fostering a mom and her three puppies. We were given supplies, directions, and access to an expert who I texted quite a bit. All of my questions were answered immediately with equal care and attention to the mom and the puppies. All three puppies were adopted when they met criteria. We realized that the mom had a special place in our heart and she found her forever home with us! Good karma was extremely supportive through the process, especially after putting so much effort into making sure the mom found a good home, too. Great organization doing tough work! I highly recommend!
We were so fortunate to have adopted two puppies (littermates) from this rescue. The puppies were rescued from a very bad situation with a Michigan Amish breeder who mistreated them. They were too sick to go home with us right away as they had apparently not been immunized and contracted Parvo. Char recognized the signs early on (before I could even tell they were sick) and insisted on keeping the puppies until she knew they would be ok, but let us freely visit to love on the pups. Her instincts and experience were correct and the entire litter soon thereafter was diagnosed with Parvo. Char provided comprehensive care for all the puppies and did everything she could to get them healthy. Additionally one of our pups needed an eye procedure for entropion and she covered the cost of the eye procedure. She also got them caught up on immunizations and deworming. She was available for any questions we had and was very knowledgeable. This rescue was a Godsend to us and am so thankful to have rescued our pups.
Our pup contracted Parvo after we brought him home. Even though due to the incubation period there was no way he had been exposed prior to coming to us. Char was amazing and took amazing care of him making almost daily trips to the Vet. She allowed me to come into her home and be with our sick pup. Today we are so happy to say we have a healthy thriving puppy who has our hearts. I witnessed firsthand the compassion and dedication that Char has for all of the animals that she comes into contact with. She is a truly amazing individual who has devoted her life to saving lives and helping find loving homes for these precious dogs and pups.
Char was very kind and informative, we lost our puppy to Parvo and then our other dog got it as well. We brought our older dog Jessie to Char and within that day Jessie was feeling so much better that she could come back home with us. Char did everything possible and gave the best care to our Jessie and we are extremely grateful to her for helping our baby.
I know this rescue goes into Kentucky and other states to bring back a trailer filled with puppies and sometimes their moms. And I guess that's good, but then what happens to the moms? I inquired about a mom just a couple of days after seeing a garage full of puppies. I was told that she went to a good home. Really? That fast? I think they mean well, but the cost is also pretty high for a puppy. If I see a puppy that really resonates with me, I want THAT puppy. I understand that there might be a ton of applications and that is fine, but if I'm approved for that puppy, that's the puppy I want. The lady is nice and again, it's great that these puppies are being rescued, but what about the adult dogs and seriously, what happens to these mom dogs? I kind of question this place and probably wouldn't adopt from them in the future.
We adopted our dog as a puppy from this rescue three years ago and it’s a “happily ever after” story! Our dog is a very healthy, smart, dog and people friendly, well-adjusted girl. We thank Char for the good start she gave to her, along with her two brothers and mother. (It was Frannie who we took home. Frankie, and Fox were her brothers and Peaches was her mom.) Only Frannie and Fox were left. We appreciated the opportunity Char gave us to interact with Frannie and Fox for a good amount of time. It was clear that these puppies were well treated and had been acclimated through touch quite nicely to humans. Char was also very thorough in making sure we were a good fit for her puppy, which included allowing us to bring our current dog along to see what the dog-to-dog interaction would be like which was important to us and Char. We also liked her taking time with us, while signing the adoption papers, to reinforce meeting the new pup’s nutritional needs, etc., and answer our questions. That showed us she was both knowledgeable and cared deeply about making sure any dog she adopted out would be well taken care of. We admired her putting her dogs first.
We are very happy with the experience we had with Good Karma rescue and our wonderful dog who is now named Cricket. Our only regret is that we didn’t also take Frannie’s liter mate Fox who was the only one left. We’d take him in a heartbeat since he was an awesome pup, too. (We hope you are loving life now in your forever home, too, Fox!)
we adopted a dog just this past Saturday and Char was wonderful. We had a rough night the first night, the dog would not let us near her to put a leash on her to take her out. We live in a condo and have no yard. She barked and cried all night. The next morning I called Char and asked her to take the dog back. She put me in touch with the foster mom who said it would be about an hour and she would come and get the dog. Well, 1 mins later this dog walked into the kitchen for a pet and that was it. I call Char and asked if we could hold off a few hours to see if she would come around.
She did , she is still a bit timid but is now letting me put a leash on her. She sleeps with me and cuddles all night. She does need a bath and a manicure but that will be taken care of after I take her to the vet for a check up on Friday.
Char was a lady thru this whole ordeal with me and gave us our adoption money back, she told us we were the last chance for this dog or she would be put down. AS soon as I heard that I knew we were going to make this work.
We are taking baby steps with this pooch that we have renamed Ziva.
And next month my husband will take her to obedience school to look leash manners.
I give Char and all the volunteers a great deal of credit for the hard work and dedication
they have to these animals that others have thrown away as if they didn't matter.
( and I like the fact that Char says it like it is !!)
These people should be arrested! They are fraudulent and hide the health issues the puppies have or dismiss them as "no big deal" kind of thing. My puppy has a bad case of Giardia, which according to my veterinarian, is extremely contagious to humans. These dishonest people denied the fact that this parasite is very easily contagious to children!!! They are very aggressive to the people trying to adopt the pets. In conclusion, STAY AWAY FROM THIS RESCUE.
We recently adopted a puppy from good karma. My wife has had more interaction with the rescue then i have, but we have both been very satisfied. They have been very professional and responsive to all of our concerns and questions.
I have never had the pleasure of meeting Char, I hear that she is a little "brash" and strait to the point. GOOD! The world needs more of this. Life is tough, get over it. Its their responsibility to make sure these dogs go to good homes and are given better lives than they had or would have had before. I would be very thorough too if I were in their shoes.
When we adopted, they explained about parvo and other diseases. They informed us about vaccination time periods and gave us a couple different deworming medicines. I thought that this would be the last we heard from them. A few days later we received a text that one of the puppies from the litter was experience symptoms of Parvo. They gave us the option to monitor the pup by ourselves, in case she developed symptoms, or to drop her off and have them monitor. We dropped her off. We have been lucky that our pup hasn't shown any signs of parvo yet. They administered antibiotics, and have been sending us pictures and videos of her daily. Very nice, caring people! I cant disagree more with the negative reviews on here. Our experience has been stressful, having to give back a pup that might be sick, but they have made it somewhat comfortable given the circumstances.
Bottom line....this rescue CARES, big time! My wife told me that there was a puppy at the adoption event that had motor oil poured over her at one point, and was severely burned by it. She lost most of her hair and was malnourished. Good karma brought her back to health. Amanda from good karma was telling my wife the story and started to tear up over it. Sounds like someone just in it for the profit right? The adoption fee covers a lot of expenses for them, and its not that much money to pay. Go to a pet store in the mall and ask about pricing. You will be floored. Most of those dogs are over $2000. They are the ones in it for "profit", not good karma, they just care about the well being of the dogs.
I don't believe that it is the rescue's fault that these dogs were exposed to parvo, from what I've read there is really no way to get ahead of it. It is extremely resilient, and the only way to protect from it is with vaccinations that only happen at monthly intervals. I'm impressed in the way that they have handled the situation. I cant imagine what the families that have sick pups are going through, our thoughts and prayers go out to them. It may be a little bit easier to write this thinking that our dog probably doesn't have the disease at this point, (She isnt clear yet though) but i don't think that my view on the rescue would change. We have seen first hand how much they care about these dogs.
My name is becky, and im from pikecounty kentucky where alot of puppies and there mothers are rescued. And if it were not for charmaine, there would be dogs running allover the roads like before she had stepped in and helped us help the animals. I just cant believe what im reading about Goodkarma.you people apparently do not know how much of a blessing she has been to not only me but pikecounty as a whole.charmaine has helped me with getting my animals spade and neutered. She is a awesome lady. And she loves what she does. She doesn't just talk about how she loves and cares for animals. She shows it.so just a word to you people who have negative things to say about Goodkarma. Gets your facts straight before you assume things. Thank you once again charmaine.
I have fostered with many of local rescues and my experience with this one was HORRIBLE. The director transports tons of puppies from out of state and when I ask where they come from or what their story is her response was always vague. After doing research it seems to me like this "rescue" is one that gets (or even buys) puppies down south and brings them here to profit. They lie about breeds, absolutely pressure fosters to get them adopted out (money) before actually allowing the puppies to decompress. This rescue also pays their fosters through PayPal per litter. One foster recently had 16 dogs at her house....that is not right. Just goes to show they are out for money, don't really care about the animals, they lie to adopters and need to be investigated to the fullest! Do not adopt and support this rescue. There are too many other local rescues who deserve your support.
Hello, My name is Barbara Barber and I'm writing on behalf of my family and myself, that if you're looking to adopt a fur baby then I recommend Karma Puppy Rescue! We've had the most wonderful experience with them that led us to our fur baby! We adopted Berlioz, a cute 12 week old male Boxer/Labrador mix puppy! We renamed him Baxter and kept Berlioz as his middle name. So Baxter Berlioz Barber found his forever loving home with us and we owe it all to Karma Puppy Rescue! They were so professional and caring! It was no pressure and we had access to all these wonderful tail wagging pups! The staff was so friendly and answered all questions and concerns we had. We could tell that they wanted to help those pups find a forever home. When my husband found Baxter he fell in love and so did we! The staff walked us right through the process, so it didn't seem so overwhelming. James gave us all the info and paperwork on Baxter that we needed. It was not just an exchanging of money or hidden information! He was upfront with all Baxter's medical information and gave us instructions on how to properly care for him and assured us that we could call at any time if we had questions once we got Baxter home. Char and Amanda was very helpful as well. Char helped us pick out all the necessary items we needed for Baxter and gave us tips that came in handy! Amanda and the staff kept an eye on all the pups until we were ready to take our newest addition home. We honestly just came to look, but when we saw how healthy and happy these puppies were, we were sold! Karma Puppy Rescue is doing a great thing trying finding these animals forever homes. They also told us is our fur baby wasn't the right fit that we could bring him back. That wasn't happening! We knew that Baxter was a rescue pup and that and that he may have some issues, that's the whole point in rescuing these animals. To give them a chance at life and love! Karma Puppy Rescue helped do just that. I'm definitely recommending them to all our family and friends!
My dachshund of 14 years passed after complications with diabetes, which he received insulin for twice a day for almost 4 years. My husband and I swore we would never get another dog but the house felt so empty. I saw a chiweenie (allegedly) on Petfinder.com and put it in an application, which was approved. I was then invited to their adoption event in Beverly Hills. It was a bit chaotic, but what rescue event isn't? We got to know the dog we wanted and then waited patiently. We were then told that we could take him home and went to get him. His sister, who had been ignored as she looked nothing like him, looked so sad. With her big eyes and adorable overbite, we ended taking both of them home. When we went for a vet check-up, they looked good except for a fecal exam showing Giardia in the sister. We had to treat both of them since it is highly contagious and I informed Char of the results. I thought that they would reimburse for that but that never happened. One also had slight kennel cough, but that went away on its own. We noticed that as they grew, only one seemed to be a true chiweenie. The male that we originally went to the event to get has a bit of jack russell terrier in him and is much larger than we anticipated. Not that it's a bad thing - he's a great dog but it's hard to see how he could be mistaken for a chiweenie. Overall, Char was great at managing the sometimes chaotic event and seemed to truly want to find the best home for the pups, which every rescue should do. She may come across to some as rude, as these posts suggest, but I couldn't imagine doing these events every weekend and dealing with some of the people that show up. I truly give her props for that.
Our puppies are now almost 17 weeks old and are doing amazing. They have their last vet check on Saturday and will be getting their Bordetella vaccinations so they can go to the dog park and be around other animals. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the minor issues I noted, but I assumed some of that was to be expected as they were coming from areas where there isn't much in terms of veterinary services. Even though they aren't what was advertised (and I know they do the best they can to determine that and go by the information they receive from the people surrendering them), they are still amazing and I wouldn't change bringing them home for anything.
It seems that we're more likely to make it known when we're dissatisfied than when things end happily. For five years we fostered puppies for Good Karma. I know there have been many happy adopters because there are many who return to Good Karma when they want to adopt again.
The woman who organizes transportation for unwanted dogs and puppies; provides their food, lodging, comfort (blankets, toys, treats, etc.), and health care; and makes them available for adoption is a woman who loves canines and wants the best for them. She is particular about the homes that "her" puppies will be going to. If she seems rude, it may be because she's more of a puppy person than a people person, but it's also likely that she is rushing to satisfy several simultaneous demands on her time.
Overall, she is amazing. She knows a lot about dogs and will do her best to make sure they are loved and cared for.
And, just in case you're suspicious, this is being posted on my own initiative. The "Puppy Lady" neither asked me to, suggested I do, nor even informed me that such an opportunity exists.
I recently inquired about a puppy that I found listed online for adoption. I wish I had seen these stories first.
I filled out an application and heard back from the chairman of the rescue. She attached a quote from petMD.com breaking down that my work schedule would not work with a young dog even though I disclosed that I would be coming home throughout the day to check on the dog. I let her know that I would be more than willing to make that commitment to a new companion.
In her response, she informed me that the puppy required a fenced yard because of the breed. I then informed that I was still looking to adopt and would be interested in any breeds that suited my living situation. I asked her if she could provide me with a list of the breeds that required a fence for future reference.
Her response was then that all of the dogs from this rescue require fenced yards.
Based on the very off putting, unprofessional experience I've had simply in asking questions about this rescue and the stories I've found here, I would strongly advise against this rescue. There are plenty of great rescues in the area that are professional and care for lives of the puppies more.
I'm a little disappointed and concerned for the puppies. I adopted a 3 month old puppy 2 days after bringing home, I discovered had tape worms ( which dogs only get by ingesting infected fleas), so apparently the dog wasn't being treated for fleas or worms. The puppy also seemed to have a parasite as he had diarrhea 7x a day and possible UTI, urinating 10x a day. I don't believe these dogs are receiving any medical care unless the owner complains and then Char is forced to do something. I suspect puppy mill dogs as they come from Kentucky which is notorious for mills. I feel really bad for those poor puppies.
We drove out to a Fosters house a couple years ago to look at a dog that we saw online . The dog did not look great in person, bloated, scabbed feet and lethargic. We asked the foster a lot of questions about her health considering she looked so terrible. we were told she was bloated because she was a pig and ate a lot, her ears were dirty just from playing in the yard and her feet were scabbed because she if she plays rough. We could tell this lady didn't know what she was talking about but it did not deter us from wanting to adopt her and give her a better life . We agreed to pick her up the next day and pay the $250 they were asking for her, unfixed. When we went to pick her up all the paperwork they had for her was for a completely different dog claiming shots and medical history. They miraculously couldn't find her medical history which should have been a red flag and the owner also call to scold my boyfriend for asking "Too many questions" to the Foster about her health as he had had a sick dog before that needed vet prescription food. The owner of the rescue replied to him without knowing anything of that saying that his dog was sick because he was feeding her garbage food. She had no idea what he had been feeding her and all the puppies there we're on the cheapest brand of puppy chow in dirty bowls in the yard, so she clearly knew what she was talking about. She was very rude and talked to us like we were idiots. Apparently we weren't grateful enough to the Foster and she wanted us to apologize for being more interested in why the dog looked so bad rather than complimenting her for having three children under 10 and a yard full of at least 10 puppies and 3 adult dogs, that she clearly could not take care of.
So, in the end, they adopted out a dog with mange to us, didnt inform us, when we called back after the vet visit the first day we had her to tell them she had constipation, coccidia, an ear infection and mange, they told us that we could just give her back to them and get our money back and go find a different dog somehwere else. All we were asking for was help with the medical bills since she had been treated for the mange before but they just dumped her on us without informing us of her situation. there was no way I was giving her back to them. He wanted to help her. We had to rescue her from the rescue
We never got the $100 spay deposit back as the vet wouldn't spay her until she was in better condition so the time they gave us ran out.
My family had found a few dogs through this rescue that we potentially would be interested in, so we drove an hour and attended an adoption event. The dogs that we had put in applications online for were gone, so apparently we would get 1st pick at the event. WRONG!!
It was mass chaos and when my son finally had bonded with one of the pups, "Char" asked if we had a dog at home. We said no we have a cat. She then shouted over everyone's heads to another volunteer, " These people are a NO, they don't have another dog"!
Omg!! So rediculous, rude and unprofessional!!!
She claimed the puppy would have separation anxiety. Seriously ?? That's when they bond with their humans!!
Unbelievable.
