Programs: 2017 program accomplishmentsthe emerging leaders and the moton fellowship programs are two of the gloucester institute's signature programs focused on augmenting the social and professional leadership skills of high performing college students. The emerging leaders class of 2017-2018 is comprised of eighteen students from various colleges and universities. The group's average gpa is 3. 51 (4. 0 scale), and each of its members is a leader in their respective campus communities. The group boasts numerous honors college scholars and officers of major clubs and campus organizations. The brand called youemerging leaders learned personal branding, dining etiquette, and professional development. Workshop facilitators included jevata herman, angelo c. And michael kearse. The dining etiquette training was facilitated by jacquelyn thomas of the etiquette & protocol school, and sartorial advice was presented by nordstrom department store personal stylists. The "elements of style" writing workshopemerging leaders were immersed in a weekend of advanced writing, facilitated by notable professional writers. Students showcased their work by submitting a 750-word essay to a panel of judges as part of an essay contest. Leadership principlesduring the leadership training weekend, the emerging leaders were introduced to professional leadership principles and how to apply those leadership skills. The facilitator was carolyn hines of cw hines and associates. The students practiced leadership skills in a fast-paced interactive classroom setting that included leadership development, organizational and professional development, team building and strategic planning. The moton fellowship program participants were selected from a national pool of candidates. Moton fellows engaged with leaders from several fields including public service, broadcasting and public policy think tanks. Public policy exposureduring their trip to washington, dc, fellows visited federal government offices, public policy think tanks and met with speaker paul ryan, secretary of hud ben carson, senator tim scott, and rep. John lewis. Internshipsthe fellows worked in our corporate office over the course of the eight-week program, where they enhanced their critical thinking, problem solving, and project management skills, while also expanding tgi's social media presence. Community outreach and servicethe fellow's concluded the summer with community outreach and community service programs by volunteering at a homeless shelter and helping a local church serve lunch to the homeless.
